How do you make your kid be faster in the mornings?

lol, Dalis, being able to threaten her with school lunch is about the only time having a massively picky eater comes in handy! I followed through on it one morning and she had to have a ham sandwich for lunch and I still haven't heard the end of it. BUT she hasn't made me take her packed lunch away since, lol!

Meagan gets distracted easily. Drives me NUTS! That girl can miss a bus like nobody's business! aaaah!
I don't set a timer, but I do have mental time marks in my head. They need to be at the breakfast table by 7:30, be done with breakfast by 7:45, etc.

Last school year it was such an issue, that I told them if they were ready by 8:00 (5 minutes before the bus came), then they could have a quarter to put in their banks. That was decent incentive for them... they could earn $1.25 extra each week just by staying focused & getting ready on time.

Bianca will just not eat, easy peasy.

Oh this idea might work.

Have you had her evaluated for ADD? If she can't get to sleep because her mind is racing, that's a big problem. I couldn't get to sleep for hours at night all during school because of it. Insomnia, spaciness, daydreaming and disorganization are hallmarks of ADD (without being hyper). Many girls have this and are never diagnosed.

For direct help on the sleep end, which might help in the morning end, maybe try having her listen to a book on DVD until she falls asleep, or have a fan, ie white noise machine, going to mask out distractions. Find out about nighttime relaxation techniques you can teach her.

Morning routines--make her wardrobe choices limited so she doesn't have to think as she pulls stuff on. I would shower in the morning to wake up, too. But I'd stand there *freezing* because the bathroom was so darned cold! (My mom liked the house CHILLY). Maybe she'll also respond to some happy upbeat music she likes in the morning, too. But if she's sleep deprived, she's going to stay a morning zombie until she can get some decent sleep.

lol I am a bad mother .. I bribe my 15 year old daughter out of bed with coffee ROFL ... In my defense its only a weak coffee but still! She is just so painful in the mornings! Grunting at me, burying herself in her blankets and threatening to shave my head while I sleep (I'm pretty sure she wouldn't do this lol) if I don't leave her alone. She is the hardest one in our family to get up and without the coffee bribe I end up yelling so I cave to make all our lives that little bit more pleasant :D.

Now my 11 year old is a different story ... all I have to do for her is gently shake her shoulder and kiss her cheek and her eyes pop open, she smiles and says I love you Mummy (morning breath aside!) and she jumps out of bed to tackle the day ... seriously! EVERY day!! I wonder if it will all go to hell when she becomes a teen too?
