We are just heartbroken. We had taken one of our dogs to the emergency vet (as she is having back issues, rupture disc) last Thursday night. We talked to our regular vet after the ER vet and he wanted to see her last Friday morning, so we called and got her in around 9:30 that morning, trying to prepare for news that her back was worse, etc. Her disc is leaking again the vet thinks and she has no position (knowing where it is) sense in her back right foot/leg. The vet said the good news was that she still had position sense in the left back and dogs get around on three legs. Also, that he thinks it is the same disc and not a different one. We are getting her a cart to get around in.

We brought her home, relieved that she wasn't worse than what we were thinking and found our oldest dog in his crate appearing to have had a stroke. We had just been there 1.5 hours before to get Ella and he was fine. We rushed back to the vet with him, but there really wasn't anything that could be done that would have helped for sure. We didn't want him to suffer anymore, so we sent him on to the rainbow bridge.

I have cried all week off and on, we haven't gotten much sleep between being in grief, shock and taking care of the injured one.

So while I was pretty chatty, now, not so much. If you want to read the blog post about Higgins, you can read it at my blog. Don't feel like you have to or that you have to comment, but I just felt like sharing.

Thanks for listening. I am just lost right now.

Sharing is always good. Losing a pet is so hard. I can remember having to put our cat to sleep a little over a year ago. I cried too. She had been acting sick so I had been taking care of her and really bonded more. Just want to sent you big hugs and say we're here to listen. I hope the other dog is doing okay. Show us her cart -- I think that's amazing they have come up with that. Take care and hugs.

Oh Katrina, that's such a shock for you! Thoughts are with you and I hope your injured doggy gets back to some comfort soon xx

@carilyne @KarenW thank you. I will post pics of her cart. We won't get it for about a month or so. We are going thru a cart program that CorgiAid has and are just lucky that there is one that will be available for her to use.

I'm so sorry for your loss Katrina. I know how devestating it can be. My thoughts are with you.

Grieving for a pet is real and I hope the pain eases. Thank you for opening your heart and sharing the sad news with us.

Oh dear! That is terrible news. I'm so sorry you are going through all this. I can definitely empathize with all the stress and grief you are going through. We have had (and lost) so many dogs throughout my life and it is such a heartbreaking experience when we lose our best friends. One of my most beloved dogs, a lab/shepherd mix, was paralyzed on her backend for her last 1 1/2 years old her life. It was a challenge. :(

Oh no. I'm so sorry for your loss Katrina. Sending virtual hugs to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss :( I know how heartbreaking that is. Hugs to you :heartlub

I am so very sorry Katrina! I heart breaks right along with you - such a difficult thing, but you did right by him by letting him go, and he clearly was loved and cherished throughout his life! Take care!

Katrina, I'm so sorry! Hoping there are happy thoughts to bring a smile to your face. It's heartbreaking. Hugs.

Heartbroken is such a it ting term for this situation and I'm so sorry that you lost him. Hugs.
