So once the new year rolls around I know that the yearly health check is coming and I try and eat well, try and move more. This year though my heart wasn't in to the whole dieting thing, the no carbs and good fats that I know works for me. So I decided to do some walking and try and get my blood pressure down and my stats into a better shape. i am happy to say that my vitality age is now my real age, so I am one year healthier than I was this time last year - even though I am a few kgs heavier and wider around the waist. I will take the win! How often do you get your health checked? Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night?
How often do you get your health checked? Well, I turned 50 last November, had new health insurance since starting a new job in August, so I got to choose a new doctor and had an appointment with her that month. On our previous insurance plan, which we had for nearly a decade, I visited my doctor once. And that was just because my foot was hurting (probably plantar fasciitis; it's gone now, as long as I treat my feet kindly). Years before that, on the previous health insurance, I visited a doctor once. And prior to that, I had regular prenatal doctor visits with all my babies. I plan to go more often now that I'm older. It helps that I finally have good health insurance. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Absolutely 100% exercise. I walk every day. I've never dieted for weight loss. I use the word to refer to what I regularly eat, as in, I eat a plant-based diet. Wait, is that what you meant? If so, both are equally important. But we should eat well most of the time, not just on periodic "diets." Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I'm not sure what you mean by this. I do drink a lot of water. I also enjoy flowers, though I actually don't bother to smell them much. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I rarely take naps (though I have in other periods of my life). Now that my kids are quite independent, I get a good 7-8 hours of sleep every night. I have low energy in the evening, especially in winter, but rarely feel like taking a nap.
Health check : should be every 6 to 9 months because I used to have a Thyroid problem, and still need regular blood tests to make sure it stays gone. But with Covid everywhere it has been longer, I don't fancy going to a doctor's surgery ,unless there is something wrong. I don't do diets,if I must,I count calories ,and stay under 1800, but not for years. I did put on weight though,so perhaps I should. I walk and swim as much as I can. Not sure what you mean by smelling flowers ,but I drink water. Sleep...... at the moment it is 2.15 in the morning, and despite hot chocolate sleep has not found me yet. I don't take naps. I wish for 8hours,normally make do with 5or 6
I am sick and tired of doctors, lol. Appointments have thankfully waned and because I am no longer under treatment my 3 month check-ups are via phone. I have CT scan next week to make sure the big C hasn't decided to make a reappearance elsewhere and ultrasound in March to make sure, well you know. I tried the medication that was recommended to lower my chances of a recurrence but the side effects were horrible, so after a month I told my Oncologist I was done. Currently waiting for surgery as the government decided to cancel all non-emergency surgeries two days before I was due for mine. Very hard not to be selfish, disappointed, and a little angry. Nope, no diet. I get mad at myself for my food choices when I look at myself but again, after what I've been through I also decided if I wanted those 2 or 3 cookies and a sandwich with bread, then darn it, I deserve it. I am very good at drinking water throughout the day, better at it in the evening but I think most days I get what I should in. Love naps but if I take one when I get home from work I won't sleep at night. I think I get 7 hours, I fall asleep most nights around 11 but wake up multiple times in the night due to pain and discomfort, so I get a broken sleep most nights.
How often do you get your health checked? Nearly three years since I went to a doctor and I will not return to the last one as she was quiet nasty to me when I refused an injection she wanted me to have for my osteoporosis. When I asked were there side effects she said "none" but when I read the literature at home that she gave me there is! Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? I try a bit of both. Every afternoon at around 4pm I do some form of exercise which is mostly walking indoors. I am feeling a lot fitter since I started to do this. I would love to cut down on food but I enjoy it too much! I do eat fairly healthy - no junk foods. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I drink a fair amount of water during the day. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? Sometimes a 10 minute afternoon nap but always 7 hours sleep at night.
How often do you get your health checked? as little as possible. I’m not big on annual check ups but now that I’m in my 50s, I try to keep up with the mammos and colonoscopies (bleh) as recommended. Unpleasant but important. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Exercising. I follow an online workout program called HASFIT which is a great mix of cardio and strength training. Highly recommend it if anyone is looking for something (and it’s free!) Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I try to drink a few tumblers of water a day. Sometimes I do well, sometimes not. I’m not great at stopping to smell the flowers - scrapping is one of the few times that I sort of lose myself in an activity other than reading. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I used to be a great sleeper but lately, really struggle to get more than 6 hours. So, I do nap some days here and there. I love a good nap.
How often do you get your health checked? I see my pain management doctor every two months. I see my oncologist every 6 months for him to review lab work. I see my primary physician once a year for him to talk to me about my lab work results, and discuss medications. Mammograms are back to once per year. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Neither? My chronic pain makes even walking a trial, so I usually opt for diet changes. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I guess you mean "take time to smell the roses"? I'm pretty good at listening to my body and resting. Sometimes my body YELLS at me to rest. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I have actually stopped taking naps every day, but that's only been in the last couple of weeks. I've been getting about 7-9 hours per night that's restorative sleep. Unfortunately, my back pain disrupts my sleep on the regular, so that's why the naps occur. I used to fight it. Now I just realize that's my life and I have to accept it.
How often do you get your health checked? I reluctantly go once a year to get my blood pressure meds refilled. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Neither, I do walk when the temp is above 65 and I mostly watch what I eat. That said, I managed to put on six Covid pounds in the last year. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I drink a lot of water each day, but my doctor always fusses at me about the 2 cans of Pepsi I drink every day. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I rarely nap, I sleep 6-8 hours a night.
How often do you get your health checked? Not often enough. I’ve avoided it during the pandemic to be honest but I’m going this week for at least a partial check up - it’s not with my normal doctor so am only going to do the basics and leave the more complex stuff to my normal doctor Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Dieting, I am so not into exercise and I have to watch what I eat anyway due to at least two if not three food intolerances Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? Drinking water Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? Umm both!
How often do you get your health checked? I only every go to the doctors when feel unwell. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Honestly..... I don't like either lol. I have never dieted but then I think I eat a pretty balanced diet. I eat a lot of vegetables and fish in my diet. My weakness if coffee. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I do stop the smell the roses (flowers) but I am terrible at getting my daily water intake. Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I have never been able to just take afternoon nap, the only time I nap during the day is if I am unwell. I do try to get 8 hours sleep at night though.
I have poor health so I get checked often.. lol sometimes it feels I live in the doctors office...lmao.. my ot.. my hearing doc.. my primary.. the dermatologist... so many fun doctors...giggle I don't exercise as much as I should unless you call up and down at work all day exercise.. but in the summer I do swim laps and I do take neelix on long walks to the beach to dig or to the marash to bark at bevers I drink a sh*t ton of water daily and don't drink much soda at all . And I do smell flowers and like nature I take naps on my days off and love naps ...lol sometimes I don't even get dressed . Neelix kinda reminds me if I'm home to take a nap and cuddle him
Congrats on the good stats @Eyeore ! How often do you get your health checked? Not as often as I should given my risk factors (auto-immune) .. the big screening things I try and schedule for late in the year so I am starting the new year with (hopefully!) good news ;-) Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Both! I have finally found exercise I enjoy (dancing and yoga). Only took many decades LOL. And extreme low carb keeps me painfree, so that's my life from now on. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? I keep glass bottles of cold water in the fridge and drink them after my morning coffee but before I eat anything Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? DH and I have fallen into a pattern of shorter nights and a middle of the day doze or nap, and it really works. We get up before 5am. Now I find if I sleep past that, I enter prime teeth grinding territory LOL.
Thanks for sharing your stories with me. I am wondering how much any of us share these details in our scrapbooks at all? I know that I don't much. But maybe we should.
They do lab work? I have an appointment every 3 months with the oncologist, just a phone call. No blood work or anything. I’m having a CT scan this week as I am at a high risk for recurrence (next stop is organs and/or bones) but I had to question why there was no follow up. Scan once a year now. I want to ask about a PET as I know others get those. No more mammos for me due to no breast tissue but I have an ultrasound every 6 months, next one is March. I am hoping to graduate to 6 months for oncology and yearly for ultrasound after my next appointments.
How often do you get your health checked? Annually Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Neither, lol ... but usually a bit of both Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? Smelling the flowers Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? Afternoon naps
I'm piggybacking Sara @Mrsdudds a bit! How often do you get your health checked? I only every go to the doctors when feel unwell. Which do you prefer exercise or dieting? Honestly..... I don't like either lol. I have never dieted but then I think I eat a pretty balanced diet. I eat a lot of vegetables and fish in my diet. I could go without chicken. beef, or pork (not a big fan of pork) if hubster would agree. My weakness is wanting caffeine- I DON'T drink coffee, and the other sources have lots of sugar which is bad for joints. Smelling the flowers or drinking your water? BOTH! Afternoon naps or 8 hours at night? I have not been able to sleep through the night for several years. I want that to change! Napping the only time I nap during the day is if I am unwell.
Yes. The lab work is to make sure the oral hormonal therapy is doing the job. When I see him next month, he'll tell me at that time whether I'll stay on the Tamoxifen or move to a medication for menopausal/postmenopausal women. When I started the Tamoxifen last February, I was well into premenopausal territory (having a period every three to four cycles), but still hadn't gone the entire 12 months without one. Is the hormonal therapy the one you chose to discontinue because of side effects?
