I am just bursting with pride for my 14 year old. He is going from a tiny Lutheran K-8 school where he had 5 kids in his class to our MUCH bigger local high school with a class size of about 280 and he decided that he wanted to try out for the soccer team. He has never done any travel teams, just AYSO (rec league) soccer, so we didn't have any idea what to expect. ALL but two of the kids trying out ALL played on travel teams, but he practiced 3 times a week for the entire summer and then even ran extra on his own on his days off. Tryouts were last week and then on Friday the coaches pulled the kids aside one by one to let them know if they made the team. I think I was WAY more anxious than he was, but when he walked out to the car with paperwork in hand and smirk on his face I about bawled! The best part is that his first game will be at home and on my birthday in two weeks! I can't wait to see him in uniform and on the field! I'm SOOO happy for him! Now he'll have a group of friends going into the big ole high school!
That is SO exciting, Karen! Woot Woot! I know what it's like trying out and the wait for results! We do travel right now, but my son will try out for the 8th grade team this year, and I'm hoping he gets on and it really benefits him!
That's so exciting!!! Good for him! Happy for you as well - just finished the first week of high school for my oldest. It's tough on a mama's heart.
How wonderful for him. That kind of work ethic really says a lot about a person & his character! Congratulations!
That's so awesome! Sounds like he deserved that spot after all that hard work he put into it. Congratulations!
Thanks everyone! I just can't stop smiling about it. I am going to be printing that picture because it just makes me so happy for him!
He's never had to try out for a team in his life... our schools had to combine with other Lutheran schools in the area just to get enough kids to play. Good luck to your son on his tryout!
That is wonderful!! Congratulations to him and you too. They grow up so fast - cherish these last years as a teen.
I just hope I don't cry the whole time. I am not an emotional person usually, but even thinking about it all makes me teary. Lol! I must be turning into a sappy person with my aging.
You and me both. But I bet you won't be the only emotional parent there! Just wear sunglasses...that way no one will know unless you're bawling really hard!
