Some of you may have known that 12 months ago I was diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo on top of my sleep issues that cause major fatigue. Have seen a number of specialists and no cause has been found for the vertigo (I have treatment and a diagnosis for the sleep and fatigue issues) and any treatment doesn’t help. Since my diagnosis I’ve had several falls outside in daylight in dry weather so have for the most part been house bound. My balance has never been amazing anyway so my doctor has recommended that I temporarily (at this stage) use a walking stick when I’m out and about to regain my confidence and independence again. It’s been hard for me to accept this as my new “normal” as my mind is willing but my body just doesn’t cooperate and I’m also super young.

Jennifer, sometimes we have to listen to our bodies and our internal selves, tamp down our ego and do what is necessary. Hopefully, this is temporary; keep yourself safe.

Yes, it’s just been a hard pill to swallow but something I need to do....at least I got to choose what type of walking stick I have (I’ve chosen a bright pink and black one)

So sorry for your troubles, Jennifer. I had bouts of vertigo. Vertigo is no joke. You'll be walking along and all of a sudden the world does a 360. Happened once when I was running and I almost ended up on my head. Its such an odd feeling...its like being drunk on alcohol without touching a drop.

I do hope things get better for you. ENT said they were not linked, but when I get my tonsils removed, the really bad vertigo stopped. Rare mild bouts happen every now and again...but not like before.

@ArmyGrl mine is definitely better than it was for the first few months and luckily I know my triggers. I was very quick to investigate the issue as the affected side is the side that I’ve had multiple ear infections in and I’m also hearing impaired on that side as well to make sure it wasn’t anything more sinister than vertigo. Was assured it wasn’t so it’s just a case of becoming as mobile and independent as possible with vertigo hanging around.

It's hard, but listen to your body. Did you ever watch House? He had a great way with a cane!
And a cane is better than a broken bone.

I love that you choose pretty colors! Pink and black are cute! Now you'll have to scrap it and show it off!

Jennifer, I am sorry you are again put with another road block, but see it as it is a temporary change.

@elseepe & @bestcee its bright pink and black because I chose it and paid for it myself.....if I waited for a referral to the hospital who knows how long it would take so I just went to the pharmacy/drug store and bought one.

@bestcee, yes definitely better than broken bones, broken glasses, and expensive ambulance bills (our ambulance is not publicly funded so there is a part charge that users have to pay)

Glad you got a cool walking stick and glad you got something to help you be safe.

So sorry, Jennifer. But I'm so glad that you have the walking stick, and I love pink and black! Hopefully it is only temporary and will keep you safe!

Oh, you need to be safe! I'm glad your adopting that walking cane! I hope it helps, but I also hope that it continues to lessen and get better! Hugs!

Found this on Pinterest - loved and wish I had heard this years ago. Hope it helps.

The vertigo is much better than 9-12 months ago so I know it will improve and with further investigations it looks like it’s closely tied to one of my other health issues

My mom had vertigo and it was tough there for a while. They finally realized hers came from double-vision, so once they corrected that and sent her to PT she was able to kick it. I'm so sorry you have to go through that, Jennifer. But your walking stick sounds pretty!

Mine is most likely related to low blood oxygen which is linked to my sleep apnea diagnosis......it’s taken 13 months to figure it out mind you.

I'm sorry you've been faced with so many challenges, Jennifer! I hope that now that they've figured out the cause you'll see further improvement. If you have to use a walking stick, at least yours sounds pretty!

Looking at these 2 together is interesting. Lisa's ENT said they weren't related, but it makes you wonder since one of the cures for sleep apnea is removing the tonsils.
