Happy New Year to you and yours. We visited friends and enjoyed a relaxed time of drinks and snacks while waiting for the fire to cool down enough to begin braai-ing (the bbq). Supper was after 9:30 (my usual sleep time is 10pm) and then desserts and then I was yawning my head off and decided home was calling. Came home and was able to countdown with DD and friends and wish everyone and then it was over. What did you do? What are your plans for today?
We stayed home and ordered Chinese. Had to get our fortunes read! Watched football. Watched The Golden Girls (RIP Betty White). Watched the countdown to New Year's on Olivia's island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. I made sure all laundry was done so I wouldn't be washing on New Year's Day. The house is clean as well. No washing away any luck coming my way! LOL I got my kiss from my sweetheart at midnight, as well as hugs from my children. It's thought that if you kiss someone you love that you'll be surrounded by love all year. On New Year's Day in the afternoon, we'll go to my mom's for black eyed peas, cornbread, collard greens, sweet potatoes, pork loin and whatever else my mom comes up with. Black eyed peas bring pennies, greens bring dollars, and cornbread brings gold. Pork is supposed to inspire progress throughout the year to come. I talked to my Mama earlier, and all her laundry is done, too. Olivia's all caught up as well. @LivyBug Superstitions are strong in this family.
We didn't make it to midnight....I think I lasted til just after 11pm but got woken up with fireworks going off at midnight which we kind of expected so it was a very lowkey affair not helped by at least one of us having a bout of food poisoning on NYE
I spent the day scrapping and listening/watching football. I did stay up for the ball drop, got a kiss from Peyton then went to bed and snuggled with her. I have a friend that was at the Cotton Bowl to cheer on her Bearcats so I would check FB to see if she had posted any photos. She had decent seats and thankfully she had a good attitude about the outcome of the game. I wasn't sure she would from some things she has said during the regular season. Today will be more of the same. Scrapping and football. My team plays today so I will be actually watching it instead of just listening. I will be fixing Pillsbury cinnamon rolls in a little while. A tradition from my childhood. I'm sure they will taste really good this year since I haven't been able to have them for several years.
Happy new year to you all! We made it to midnight - just about. No plans for today though, going to cook a roast but other than that it's just a day for relaxing with the little ones for me.
Stayed home. Cooked lots of finger food snacks and ate all day. Listened to music, talked, had fun. Went to bed TOO late (3am) and up at 9am due to the dog. Going into the Day 1 MOC with a fuzzy brain right now....rofl
I'm screwed because all I do on this day is clean. LOL. Working in the financial industry with year end just come and gone....I don't clean for like 4 weeks. hahahaha. today is catch up day!!! Usually it's my one day off and then I'm back to work, but since it falls on Sat, I get 2. LOL
we had crab legs and shimp for dinner (family tradition). then we played trivial pursuit. My DH and DS played video games after. My daughter and I played a new Disney game she received for Christmas. At 11pm we watched the ball drop in NYC and went to bed! I'm usually too exhausted to do much more! today is catch up day. maybe run some errands.
Happy New Year Everyone We had a really quiet evening here, both our local pubs closed at 8pm (our local government has brought in more restrictions and closed all nightclubs). So I spent my evening with a glass of Baileys Irish cream, a good book and listening to jazz music.
Happy new year everyone! My last day of 2021 included baking and heating up food (I almost said cooking, but really it hardly was). I baked my tri-level brownies and biscuits, heated up some frozen store bought hors d oeuvres and tamales and made little meat and veggie pies with leftovers from the last week and refrigerated pie crust. I took a slightly drizzly walk, wrote a lot in my journal, added books to my Want To Read shelf in Goodreads and put 3 books on hold on my library website, chatted with everyone in my family and a friend, and watched videos. My husband found me asleep in my desk chair around 11:45pm. We gathered the kids, minus my youngest who had gone to bed, plus a friend of my oldest who had come to visit, and we toasted with sparkling cider or grape juice while watching the countdown at timeanddate.com and reminiscing. I had thought of making chili along with all that other food yesterday, but it turned out to be unnecessary (I had also reheated some stew from Thursday night). But after reading Cheryl's post above, I definitely should make the chili today. Because I was going to include black beans. I often include spinach. (My chili always has several veggies.) And I always make cornbread with chili. @gonewiththewind Superstitions don't hurt! I finished my MOC day 1 layout before I went to bed. The pouring rain has canceled my Saturday walk with my friend, but I'll try to find a break in the rain to walk a little in my neighborhood at least. Right now I'm finishing off the grape sparkling cider, enjoying the TLP forum explosion of activity, listening to music, and I plan to just continue thoroughly enjoying a relaxing break before I have to give most of my life to my job starting again on Tuesday.
So interesting to read you guys. I had no idea about the laundry and house cleaning. Don't think it's a thing this side of the pond. My cleaning lady comes back in a week, I do think the house misses her. I do laundry and groceries, cooking, occasionally the kitchen and bathrooms. But going to let the rest slide for now.
It was just my son and me for dinner on New years eve so we just had pizza. I did a bit of cleaning and moved a few items in each room for luck and opened windows to let out bad vibes from 2021. My son is 17 but goes to bed around 9:30 on his own, so he did not want to stay up and I started getting a terrible headache as we have a snow storm coming in, so I went to lay down early. My husband had to work until 9 pm on the eve so I left him a pizza cooking. My head was busting so I stayed in the dark and fell asleep. I did not wake up until 4 am. Oh well, same ol stuff, different year I'm sure! My husband works again today and won't get out until after 8 plus the hour drive home so it's just my son and me for dinner. I think we will have ranch chicken pasta and await the snow/freezing rain storm that's coming at 5. At least the horrible headache is gone.
We were supposed to go to a fun euchre tournament (card game) with about 12 other couples, but the host texted in the morning to say that she decided to get a covid test to make sure her cold was just a cold and then she tested positive for covid, so the whole party was canceled. My hubby and I took down the Christmas decorations and watched movies together and then I ended up reading until about 4:00 am! Whoops!
We had a toast at 9pm to the New Year for those that had to go to bed (Nick worked today, and Sharon is still recovering from surgery). Then, Munchkin and I stayed up. We played a card game, Play Nine, and watched Mission Impossible 2 (Oh, John woo and the 90's/00's). We paused the game and movie to watch the ball drop in New York on television. Then, back to finish both. He went to bed at 1am! I followed at 1:30am, after cleaning up a few things. This is the first year I haven't been scrapping at midnight for a long time. Nick usually works New Years Day, and Munchkin has always fallen asleep before 10:30pm. I usually have MOC Day 1 done before I go to bed, and I still haven't gotten it done. I did get to watch my team play hockey! Yay!! That always makes me happy. And since it's a rainy, rainy day we are staying in and doing nothing. I'm making soup for dinner - broccoli cheddar, and breadsticks. No superstitions here to do. Although, I did do all the laundry yesterday, so maybe I unintentionally got that one out of the way? Happy New Year everyone!
first time in 46 years, didnt hug and kiss hubby at midnight, think was 1/2 hr later i called to other room to wish him a happy new year, i was busy working on my moc layout. Today we getting alot of snow.
Happy New Year!! We just hung out here at home. DH had to work and I have the youngest granddaughter until tomorrow. We had some snacks and watched the ball drop. Normally, I'm scrapping my way in to the new year, but I've hardly opened the computer since Thursday morning. I'm feeling all kinds of behind already haha
Happy New Year!! We stayed home, started a fire, watched Netflix and enjoyed some nice Moscato. Perfect NYE! We were invited to a fairly large party, but elected to stay home. Too much "stuff" going around and too many people we didn't know and it was yucky and rainy. First year we've elected not to go to a NYE party.
