Hair!

But of course I do miss my crazy curly hair SOMETIMES!!
I hear you. I know I am going to, I know this. My sister does my hair, so I have already gone from waist to my shoulder and feel good about that. We are getting there!!!

I color mine. I started getting a few grey hairs when i was 23. Nothing crazy, but they were there, mixed in. By 30 there were enough that you could see them if I didn't color so I started coloring to get rid of the grey. I'm 44 now and the grays take over the top of my head (but underneath) and the sides above the ears (again underneath) so you really see them when I wear my hair pulled back. I think when I turn 50 I will go natural and see what it looks like. :)

The last time I was at the stylist she said the trend is silver hair. People are actually asking to have their hair colored silver. I've spent all these years trying to cover it so it sounded odd to me. She said the silver actually looks kind of cool with black tips. I meant to go look this color trend up, but totally forgot after I left the salon. I just can't picture it!

My daughter has blonde hair and gorgeous natural highlights. She has no need for color and has never asked for it. If she did ask for it I wouldn't even consider it bf she was a teen... except maybe a little streak of fun color would be fine. Some of her friends have started highlighting their hair but their hair is more one-tone and I can see why they might want it now. (They just started High school).

I can't imagine even the thought crossing my mind to color my 5 year old's hair (unless there was a special reason! Pink for cancer or other meaningful event that the child believes is really important and wants to participate in.) But like Jenn said ... maybe there was a reason.

had to finally google it ...

I've regretted coloring my hair because I'm low maintenance and hate having to color it every certain amount of time. So, I just let it grow out and cut it so that it's now my natural hair with no color. My hair is very weak so I am trying to strengthen it so it doesn't fall. If anyone knows of any great products for this I will be happy! I am one that ((thinks)) I won't color when I get greys. Let's see how that goes.
As far as a 5 year old getting hair colored, no! I was once asked if I colored my daughter's hair (she was about 4 or 5) because it looked like it was colored. I think my daughter can color her hair when she's 18 and up, she can make her own decision.

ohhh I need to come back with time tio read these all!!!!!

I ll come back later, Maribel, I know a couple of things from Germany a friend of mine swears it helps, I ll get you the actual name but I think is something to do with caffeine!!!!!!

Bianca is not interested in coloring her hair like other (9 year) girls in her class are. I am glad because I think it's too harsh for their hair at that age. Now, other than color I let her have reign on her hair. She picks her own haircut and so far everything looks so darn cute! LOL!!!

I colored my 6-year-old's hair when she asked. She just likes purple. She also picks out her own clothes. I don't see what the fuss is about or why there needs to be some special reason for it. It's just hair.

The chemicals in permanent dye may be a problem for developing bodies if absorbed through the scalp. I say may because there isn't actually any evidence one way or the other. But of course as parents we would rather be safe than sorry, so you can either dye without it touching the scalp or you can use temporary dyes, Kool-Aid, hair chalk, colored sprays, etc. There are many ways to color hair that are not dangerous.

Thank you Cynthia! Can't wait to find out! :)

I like the idea of the non permanent colors for fun. Never heard of using kool aid, will have to look that one up.

Ok, Lorry, I will come back when I have a clearer head (I only slept 1 hour and 38 minutes) but I do see a social problem on letting girls color their hair at a young age, further than where the chemicals can harm or not....
I think on the sexualization of young children and it really makes me cringe....

You maybe an exception, and I am sure there are other mothers who can do and still give the girls a good example and have a beautiful upbringing...but 90% of the kids IO saw parents allow to change colors, also allow high heels, lipstick and nail varnish...
is a question of opinion and I respect others.... I am curious getting to know what my community thinks/feel about things so that's why I asked, so, knowing you, I'm quiet sure you are not the kind of mum I am talking about....

As for grey hair people, I show you a closer case, someone who has most definietly not the money the people on the google search can invest in hair LOL
I have a friend, Brazilian, she is now in her 40s, but she started going grey in her early 30s, she has two kids, an amazing husband who supports her in everything, when she decided to let it grow, I wasn't sure...but have a look (this photo is from 2012 when she came to visit us, she was doing some work here in London and stayed with us 2 weeks)
her hair was just out of the shower...she has quiet a lot and with volume, she uses a special shampoo from L'Oreal I think, specially designed for grey hair...

she's on trend before the trend cynthia!!! it looks great on her.

when i turn 50 I am letting it go too. right now i don't have quite enough of the grey to make it look that good. i actually am looking forward to it, bc i hate going to the salon for anything more than a quick cut. i am very low maintenance when it comes to hair. and i stretch out my colors to about 3months ... and get yelled at by my stylist. who has the time or $$ to do it every 6-8 weeks. ????

TFS cynthia!

I know several other moms who dye or have dyed their kids' hair, both here and in the US and Canada, and none of them are like that at all. I would never associated colored hair with any of the rest of that.

I was just going to add something about this. My daughter (27) just wanted to do her hair grey/silver. And since she mentioned it, I've seen several younger women with it around our area. My daughter ended up doing her hair a dark brown (near black) with a few purple and silver streaks. She's had black with fuchsia, and once black with different peacock colors of blues/greens. She works in a kitchen, so they tend to go a bit wild sometimes. I've always wanted to do a light pink, but worried about being able to pull it off at 45. LOL. I bought a pink wig, but haven't worn it out yet. I am not one who likes to draw attention to myself in public.

I'm lucky to not have any grey to deal with yet. My hair is natural blonde, but over the years, it has darkened. I get it foiled now to add highlights because my hubby likes it. But I've been light red, dark red/auburn before, and one time I had a mishap and it was literally glowing neon red. *That* was crazy, and I was mortified. I had to dye it dark brown after to get rid of the flaming red.

This is so me! Only I will be 50 in November and my hair is not cooperating LOL It just won't go gray haha I have a few here and there, but nothing worth letting go just yet. I went for color in June and just went back this past Saturday, so yeah, 3 months is about right for me, too. I went a darker instead of blonde this time because the blonde was really drying out my hair...It felt like straw. That's the kind of damage I was trying to avoid with my daughter so young. She has naturally dark hair and for any other color to show up on it, she has to bleach it first. Other than that, I'm all about kids being able to do whatever with their hair...it is just that, hair. It grows, it can be cut, etc.
Cynthia... I adore your friend's hair! That's exactly the way I hope mine will be someday!!

Id love to be adventurous and dye my hair "Kelly Osbourne purple" but I have naturally strawberry blonde hair and every hairdresser so far gives me a very strange look and says "ya know people pay a fortune for that colour" lol
One day Ill get the courage to do it myself :D
Apart from having smurf blue hair during my goth stage, and bright red for fun last year as a dare thats it!
