One of the things that I LOVE about CS6...as small as it may seem...is that you can ctrl J multiple layers.....I LOVE that function!!!!
yikes! i still have CS2. I'm not sure what to do. For the occasional design job, I use InDesign/PS/Illustrator but I don't make enough to justify spending $1200 to upgrade all 3! For that price I could get cloud for 2 years....
I don't know how they would be able to "turn off" your CS6 that you have loaded onto your computer already Jennifer - that seems impossible, but I am by no means a tech guru. This is all very interesting to me! Sounds like no one has a definitive answer on whether it will effect PSE either yet - that would be interesting too! Not liking the way it's going, that's for sure, but hopefully I am all set and can just stay on my CS6 and be all set!
go to the adobe photoshop facebook page and you can learn all about it. Anne, after that 2 years are up though you will lose the software if you don't continue paying the monthly fees. I think that's where a lot of people have problems with it. You have to "rent" the software for the rest of your life, or however long you plan to use photoshop, to be able to use it. You never have the option to actually own it. I understand that homes , cars, etc... can run this way to for some but going this route for computer software makes no sense to the hobbiest like myself. I am sure it's a different story for designers or people that make a living using photoshop. I just wish there was an option that included us all instead of dumping the hobbits like myself.
My fear is that the monthly fee is going to keep creeping up on me every year until the next thing I know I'm paying $100/mo for PS. Ain't nobody got time fo dat! I have CS4 and am just about getting the itch to upgrade, so I was debating between switching to Cloud or upgrading to CS6. I still can't make up my mind.
From what I read, the system or program can go 99 days without you "checking in" on the cloud. After that it will stop. It will still be on your puter, but unusable. No cloud here, but a CS5 happy user, that will be undercover, and still making pages!
Shoot...I was happy with 5 but maybe I need to call my academic counselor and see if I can get an upgrade to 6 tacked onto my financial aid.
Here's a link where they answer some questions about Creative Cloud: http://blogs.adobe.com/photoshopdot...-questions-about-photoshop-cc.html#ACRupdates They seem to be getting A LOT of 'feedback' in the comments following the post....general discontent about this move, pressure to lock in a $9.99/mo price rather than just an introductory deal, etc. Someone asked specifically about Elements and the response was: "Elements is the same as Lightroom. Photoshop Elements will be available for purchase as a perpetual software license, via electronic download from Adobe.com and authorized resellers."
If my memory serves me correctly Adobe tried to pull something funny with the upgrades a couple of years ago and it did NOT go over well with the Adobe community of users. Scott Kelby even wrote a letter opposing what Adobe had done or something, blah blah blah. Needless to say, Adobe gave in to the pressure of it all. Hoping that that will repeat itself here (though as a Graphic and Web Design and Photographer I don't think that a subscription service is really that bad of an idea).
I think it's a great idea for people who make a living off of the products. It's a little harder to swallow for a hobbyist. Which, I guess I don't NEED the super awesome pro tools, but it feels kind of lame to be shut out of it. CS5 for lyfe! Ha!
I guess I am sticking to my CS5 for now and see how this will all evolve. It maddens me that people's options are being taken away. Same thing with FB feautures that are all of a sudden changed into useless advertising options. As a user I want to be able to decide for my own what I want and how I want it!
We do have some options though,- switching to an other software being one of them. Gimp is still out there , serif CraftArtist is at least as good if not better than elements, and has excellent shadowing features, and special effects no one should shake a stick at. With for example gimp and CraftArtist for photo editing and scrapping, and a software like Artrage or Drawplus for creating papers and embellishments, the people who is at the moment using Photoshop only for creating their scrap pages might find (to adobe's surprise no doubt) that there are other better and certainly much much cheaper options than a cloud....... As for the people who design professionally I don't know what other options you have, but I am sure you must have some ,Adobe is not the be all and end all of everything, however good their product might be.............so there! ups I guess I did go on a bit.....
you can sign a petition here, more signature the better, they may listen... http://www.change.org/petitions/ado...atory-creative-cloud-subscription-model#share
I'm bummed. I have been scrapping for about 3 years and still use Photoshop Elements 6. I had just decided to make the jump to Photoshop and now I would have to go to the subscription. Ackk! Trying to decide if I should just go with the most recent version of elements instead. But I was so looking forward to better shadowing options!!
You can still buy CS6 as a stand alone product. That will be the last one they make out of the cloud. It should last you for quite a while though. I used CS3 for 4 or 5 years and wouldn't even have felt the need to upgrade if I wasn't forced to with my computer switch.
