Grammar Pet Peeves...

I have no pet peeves because I stink at grammar myself so I pay no attention to it. I know I mess things up all the time and even do so on some of my pages but it really doesn't bother me. I have way to many other things to worry about right now. I also type a lot from my iPad and I know how it messes things up for me all the time and I realize it happens to other people too.

LOL at "rogue apostrophes". I think I'm guilty of that sometimes myself. Although I try to get things right whenever I write (to the best of my memory – my grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills are not as good as they used to be), I'm also trying to loosen up and not obsess over my typos and other mistakes.

With other people, there are a few words that bug me here and there (irregardless makes my skin crawl - I hate that "they" gave in and made it a recognized word), but in forums most writing "mistakes" I tend to just look at as an expression of personality. :)

Oh, and I read the Alot blog post with my son this morning while we were waiting to leave for school, and he LOVED it! :)

this is exactly why i dread contributing much in english speaking forums :blush

please don't feel that way liahra! I doubt anybody here gets upset when english is not the first language. Personally I feel that anybody who has learnt a second language is far superior to me who only knows one!

yes that! I think you are brave and wonderful for participating here!

I used to frequent a forum in which one or two of the people who posted there (and they were native English speakers) insisted on not using a) capitalization and b) punctuation. Their posts were very difficult to read, and they were periodically questioned, gently at first, then with tougher tones, why they wouldn't use typical caps at the very least. One particular person said that was just the way she wrote, so suck it up. I put her on my "don't want to see" list. I mean, who did they think they were? ee cummings? There's another forum where this fifteen year old wrote in with a problem and he/she wrote in all text speak. Extreme text speak. I could barely make it out.

I guess that's my new peeve. Text speak. It's only for your phone, to people your own age.

I am TERRIBLE at grammar and spelling....
(and English is my first language)
Although, most of my problem is trying to type to fast.

Please don't take offense to anything I write please.
I just chalk it up to being part of my 'charm'. LOL!

Well, I hate when I spell words wrong or my sentences don't make any sense (grammatically speaking). I hate it! :hissy I feel very stupid actually :( But, as English is not my first language I try not to be so upset about it and always ask someone if this or that is correct. I NEVER know when to use commas (it is quite different from Portuguese :() Also, sometimes I don't know how to connect sentences, I guess I need some conjunction words for that but I keep forgetting them LOL.
Now, when it comes to Portuguese I'm very very strict. I just can't stand when I see mistakes that people are not supposed to make, kwim? I mean, you learn your grammar and spelling at school so you might at least pay attention to what you write, right?. Kids are becoming very lazy when it comes to writing anything, especially on the net. Oh, and prepositions are a thing that really give me a hard time in English. I never know how to use them properly. They drive me so mad! :giggle
