Gift ideas | Pad Patter 11.22

Gift giving for littles who love toys is so much fun, but after that I struggle. My kids are 11, 14, and 17. The oldest and youngest aren't really into "stuff." They like gift cards and cash and that's what they ask for, but they also want to have 1 or 2 fun things to open. That's where I fail. I like the turtle conservation idea for my 11 year old--I'll look into that. Thanks! I'm also getting her an add on pack for the Sims video game she plays. She's a huge Hamilton fan, so I'm going to see if I can find something Hamilton-related that she'd like. My oldest will get a Steam gift card (video game downloads) and I'm considering a paid music service since he listens to the radio mostly. All 3 kids will get IOUs to pick out a few books they want me to order for them. My middle son is by far the easiest. He would rather have things for his hobby (Rubik's cubes) than gift cards. I'll order him a few cubes and probably a fun Rubik's cube shirt. I'm also going to try to get him a few jigsaw puzzles, since he likes putting them together. His big gift is a new Fire to replace the one that no longer works with headphones. (To be honest, I'm not sure if that's more a gift for him or the rest of the family--we're tired of listening to his cubing videos!)
Ooooh thanks for mentioning the Steam card. My 15 year old would love that! Whenever he has money, that's usually where he spends it lol.

My sis said to just get them itunes GC. But I sort of want to get something more meaningful...but I guess if that's what they would be happy with...
I'm always conflicted with this, too. I like choosing gifts and giving meaningful things, and I love watching kids open gifts, but then on the other hand, if they would really love money or GC's better....
One year, my oldest asked for just money but I hated for him to not really have much to open. So, I got cash in small bills and wrapped each one separately in different size boxes, from tiny to really giant. And then for a Santa gift that doesn't get wrapped I bought one of those little tiny Christmas trees and tied bills to it for decoration.

If any of you have tween, teen, or older girls to shop for, Bath and Body Works is doing a buy 3, get 3 free promotion. It's supposed to be online on Thursday, but maybe they're not on East Coast time since it hasn't gone live yet. I'm getting DD a few things, and there may be a couple for me making it into the cart as well...

I struggle with this, too. But I've noticed that when I buy my 17-year old things he didn't ask for, they tend to just sit there unused. He has a narrow set of interests, and if there's nothing he truly wants right then he would rather have cash or a gc that he can hold onto until there is something he wants. When he does eventually want something, it's likely to be either a video game or a computer component that he'd rather pick out himself. He likes to have at least one real thing to open, but he's perfectly happy if that one thing is a favorite candy! I also remember myself at that age (and honestly, still today)--I would rather receive a gift card than "stuff." So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that 2 of my 3 kids are like that, too!

My 10 & 12 year old are a still very much into toys. Jamie's 1st choice was this giant Thomas the Tank Engine set, Grandma bought it. Brody's big choice was a Harry Potter Lego set. I bought them board games based on books they like, video games, more Lego, plushies, & books. All my coworkers are getting bath bombs that look like ornaments. 2 things on my Mom's list were a squeegee for her car & flannel pjs. So, she got those. I got matching ones for her partner & dog as well.

My sis also mentioned just buying them their favorite candy! LOL.

I know when I was in my teens and even to this day I’d rather get money or vouchers for gifts.

They've had that sale on all week. They couldn't believe I went directly to the register to purchase a $10 GC. ha! Problem is I get headaches from many scents, so just going in the store was enough for me until next year!

I didn't read the posts over again, but last night we played a dominoes game called Mexican Train. It was a LOT of fun! Even I enjoyed it - and I really don't like games.
