Tonight the kids played Exploding Kittens after dinner & then we ended up playing Boggle before reading time. We're starting to run out of board game storage space but I have a soft spot for them. They aren't always full of fun, DD is rather strict about rules & DS still has moments when he's still learning not to be a sore loser... But I'm not saying 'it's just a game! ' as much as I used too so they are more enjoyable these days

I'm more a word games person usually & we have rather old & worn versions of many games from the BKE (before kid era- & some are from when DH was a kid -yep that old ; -) ) so now that DS is old enough to not just find 2 & 3 letter words, we've been playing the old Boggle more this year, but Blokus or Labyrinth have been our faves for the last few years.

So are you a gamer? Board gamer? What are your fave board games or online games?

We're very much a gaming family: video games, role-playing games (mostly Pathfinder, a little Dungeons & Dragons), card games, and board games. My favorites are word games like Scrabble and Scattergories, but those are not my family's first choices. Only my husband and my oldest likes those almost as much as me. In the last year the games we've played the most are Takenoko, Splendor, and Barbearians. One of the most fun games -- but only when we have at least the whole family, and even better when we have friends over -- is Telestrations. Some old favorites are Clue (we have the Harry Potter and Supernatural editions) and Scotland Yard. I think the game we most often agree to play as a whole family, when we're having trouble agreeing on one, is Carcassonne. Our newest game we've had fun playing as a whole family is Nefarious, which we got last Christmas. Lately I've been playing a lot of the card game Speed with my oldest; it's one of her favorites. We've also played a big of Hangman this summer. As I said, I love words, and I like games that don't require much set up.

I remember those days when my youngest struggled with the idea of it being "just a game." He's nearly 13 now and it has been years since he has had that struggle. Another joy of having all big kids.

I have to admit that when I read the title, I automatically thought college football because it's opening week and I'm so excited :giggle
We used to play a lot of board games when all my kids were younger. Pictionary was a favorite as well as Trivial Pursuit and Scattergories. As they got older, we played more card and dice games than board games. These days, I live with two video gamers, so they much rather be doing that.

I was very good at playing games with invisible friends as a child. Only child here and my parents were not always available to play with me.

At family gatherings as a child we would play hearts or spoons. There were too many of us to play board games and with spoons, the adults had as much fun as the kids.

But as an adult, I am drawn towards games that can be played alone so computer games called my name. I have an older computer that has versions of Clue and The Game of Life that I will pull out and play sometimes. I win Clue 99.9% of the time against the computer players and the other one about 75% of the time.

And, not necessarily a game but I am hooked on a coloring app on my tablet. I like to color but my hands are too shaky at times to use a pencil and coloring book. With the app, I can color all I want and with lots of free pictures every day along with bonus pics, I don't see ever running out of something to color. Very calming as well.

We play a lot of card games but a few board games too- the kids love monopoly, LIFE, Trouble & Sorry. My daughter is an awesome little Cribbage player & we've just taught my son how to play Continental Rummy (we play that almost every night at the lake house!)

My son is far more the video gamer than anyone else, but he's not too crazy. They each have one of our old phones for some digital games on there- but again, they are limited on their screen time :) I'm addicted to Candy Crush on my phone! lol!

We play exploding kittens, labyrinth, and Blokus too!

@michelepixels have you tried bananagrams? DH (loves scrabble) likes the word part of it, I like the speed part. So it's a good compromise and I have a chance at beating him!

We also play ticket to Ride, and sushi go. We have an awesome game of Life twists and turns that's out of print. I totally recommend it if you find it at thrift store. It's more financial learning based hiding in a game.

Pandemic is really fun! It can be hard, but it's a co-op game which is nice because munchkin can't pick on mom. It's fun to work together and puzzle out how to win.

Codenames is fun but you need a big group- I'd say at least 6.

The big game around here is on The PlayStation. LOL Hubby watches whatever games he wants to watch in his study. Asher used to love to play Chutes and Ladders, but I think that's gone by the Play Station wayside. He never was much for board games.

When we were kids, we played board games all the time. Of course, we didn't have all of the electronic distractions. That was back in the days of the covered wagons. Hahaha We used to play Monopoly all the time and kept "running games" because we never got finished in one setting. Ahhhhhhhh, the good ole' days.

Before I had children, xh and I used to play lots of games with other adults. Mille Bournes was a favorite as was Monopoly. EX used to like Rummy too but he was cutthroat and made me and my Nana keep playing even though we were already losing. (Maybe this was canasta...)

With my children, we did Parcheesi till they were old enough for Monopoly. Later my eldest played Dungeons and Dragons and now we do no board games or any kind of games. He plays solitaire on his phone or iPad but not me.

I don't have a color app, but I have a puzzle app. It's relaxing to put a puzzle together without needing space!

I actually still like doing regular puzzles. I have a table I can put them on and leave them out... and no kiddo's hands to get into it. I also have a puzzle carrier that folds up if I need to put it away. I have a stack already to go for this winter. I love doing them in December... takes my mind off the holiday season that is no fun for me.

We love board games over here.

I love word games - boggle, scrabble, etc... Nobody else really loves them as much as I do. Probably because I always win! LOL

Some of my kids' favorites right now are Bunny Kingdom, Dragonwood, Monoply Cheater Edition, Clue...

We also like card games. Split, Phase 10, Skip-Bo are favorites.

My son really likes Chess and Risk. But nobody ever wants to play with him because he always wins.

I have never been one to play games . . . ever since my cousin cheated at Chutes and Ladders and Candyland repeatedly . . . it made me so angry that I never really liked to play games much after that. I did play Operation and Clue, but still, they weren't my favorite things to do.

Give me a book, and I'm golden. LOL

As I grew older, playing cards like Kings on the Corner or a dice game called Farkle were things I did with family. Also UNO. I will still choose Farkle over any other kind of board game, Scrabble included (even though I love words).

I play a bubble popping game on my phone if I'm having trouble relaxing.

Jay still plays some older PC games and Daniel plays all sorts of games, mostly Fortnite, Minecraft, and a few others as well.

I feel so lame. We have loads of board games, but my older boys have never been interested (even before they played video games). It makes me kind of sad. I grew up as an only child and would have loved to have had siblings/family to play games with. Occasionally they will play card games or cribbage.

We have bananagrams but we've never actually played the game according to the rules. The kids have just played around with making words with the tiles occasionally.

That's awesome! I can put them out on our game table, and the dining part covers the puzzle. But, sometimes I'm lazy and don't want to pull one out!

We love games but are empty nesters... so, we have taught a few couples hand & foot, our favorite at the moment. We also like to play liar's dice (or Bluff) and it can be played with a big group as long as you have 5 dice per person playing. We gave our married girls sets of 50 small dice in their Christmas stockings one year. We like Phase 10, Ticket to Ride and Sequence as well. It will be fun to follow this thread to see game suggestions I can get my grown kids for their upcoming birthdays.

wow guys, i will be doing some googling later - our game collection has expanded based on games i've heard about here (i know Forbidden Island is one of them that I'd read about here initially) and i might need some more storage space...

My eldest is a board game addict - the other two just use his games but are also very into it (they all prefer online games though..)
Last night we played Secret Hitler (very quick and funny) and Mysterium - a cooperative game that is also enormous amounts of fun. Our fav at the moment is Telestrations, only problem is you need at least 6 people for it to work properly. It is like Chinese whispers except with drawing.

Also like Coup, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride and we travel with a card game called Loot letter which is equally good for little kids.

We were reading about a game that takes 1500 hours to complete - The Battle for North Africa - just no!
