I'm trying not to have a panic attack. I just realized that I have to start planning my son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. I've been planning on making him a quilt that will the patches and awards he received along the way, and also a scrapbook of his years in scouts (Cub Scouts is done, but not much for Boy Scouts). Not a big deal in a "normal" time of the year, but we're just starting preparations for my daughter's figure skating season (new programs to learn and costumes to make/alter), along with having to plan our trip to Scandinavia by the end of the week, making sure my son actually graduates high school, and trying to help my sister long-distance with my mom. And I haven't even started on the quilt.

I need three of me!

Okay - on to Pinterest to gather ideas...

I am out of breath just reading that!!! I know you can do it. Good luck!!!

Check with your troop committee first. Ours did most of the actual ceremony planning. We chose the date & time, any non-troop related guests, and what the food would be at the reception afterwards. The troop committee handled everything else including all the certificates & plaques of congratulations from notable people.

I'm a quilter too! I'd come help if I could. It's A LOT of work! You'll do it! Quilty determination is a strong thing lol

Oh boy, Jan! I'll be rooting for you. I would already be overwhelmed. What about if you ask friendly scrappers for help, they can scrap a page if you provide the pictures? Maybe you all have similar products or template pack? You could add journaling to the full res. Just an idea to try to get a little extra wiggle room for you time-wise.

What a good Idea! I'd scrap some for sure!

When you figure out how to make three of you, please make three of me too! Haha

No really, that sounds like a ton of work. Do you have any local quilting friends who could help with that? Like Judy suggested, your troop can help. If you'd like some help with the scrapbook, I'm willing. Or maybe you could use one or two of Liz's album sets to get it done quickly. Either way, I know you'll get through this. Over the years I've marveled at how much you do. Mom, wife, scrapper, quilter, SUPER WOMAN! You got this!

Hi Jan!

We're a big scouting family too! My oldest grand is 11 and a Boy Scout. His younger brother is 9 and still a Cub Scout. My son-in-law a past Eagle Scout himself, is the Pack Master for the Cub Scout Pack and a Troop Leader for first year Boy Scouts, so we have a foot in both worlds right now. My daughter is the Awards Chair for the Cub Scout Pack.

The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is huge! Congratulations to him and your family for the dedication is takes to become such an outstanding young man in today's world!

I saw a project just last weekend, where the Eagle Scout's Mom had saved all of his old t-shirts, both Cub and Boy Scouts and made them into a very simple quilt. Just in case you're still considering ideas. Again, big congrats!

How do you baste? when I need to hurry the spray baste works wonders. Just gotta get it even and lots of it. Washes right out and I find the fabric stays in place really well when I'm doing the quilting.

Oh my! That's a lot on your plate. At least the trip planning should be done quick since you need it done first. Hopefully, the rest falls into place easier. And it sounds like your sewing machine needs a permanent home if it doesn't have one!

Have you picked a quilt pattern?

that kind of full plate is what makes me get going... laying it all out and looking how I can do it all. I hope it was super helpful to bring some organizational thoughts to your planning!

Good idea! My DH is an Asst. Scoutmaster, so I'll ask him. about 70% of all scouts in this troop end up with their Eagle rank. But I think it's on the parents to do the bulk of the work. His birthday is May 6, and he's going to go down to the wire. He's finishing the last 3 merit badges, then on to the Eagle project. Thankfully we have a Nature Center across the street from us who always has scout projects to have done, and they even provide the materials! He just needs to meet with the Head Ranger next Tuesday when he returns from vacation.

I'll take you up on that! But first I need to get the photos from the Scout Master. He has photos from every event (I only have the Court of Honors) and I can't do much without them. I do have two events - their Sea Base trip and Philmont from last summer. I'll get them edited and figure out what to do.

Aw, thanks Kayla! I'll let you know if I need help.

I haven't quilted in over 5 years. No time anymore. I have a can of it (I use it for smaller projects), but it is wonderful stuff. Thanks for the reminder!

Here are the three "finalists":

BIG paper piecing, but I love the design. Wouldn't be that hard and I could put all his patches on it. I think I may use this one.

This one would be easy-peasy, but not too interesting:

Or something like this, but it would be a nightmare to figure out without a pattern:

Robert Kauffman fabrics did a scouting line a few years ago, and silly me, I didn't purchase any of it. Now peeps are selling a fat quarter (18"x22") for $19.00! Highway robbery! I'll just have to use something else.

Whew! I'm tired just reading that! Never enough of mom to go around, is there? I love the "On My Honor" quilt. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Oh boy, Jan! Keep me posted. I'll help!
Love that background!

I thought I needed a nap when I read the original post! Best wishes on all your projects. My dh was an Eagle Scout and sadly there's no memorabilia of it any more or if there ever was.

Ok. Talked with my hubby, and he said that although it's our responsibility to do the entire Court of Honor, many times it doesn't happen until months after the rank is earned. Whew! So, we could do it in the Fall if we wanted to. Good news on many counts, including getting the quilt and photo book made. Yay!

Then, I received an email from my in-laws. They finally sold their home (yay!), but that on April 5 we will be receiving the furniture they promised us. This means that I need to literally clean my entire house, then re-arrange our existing furniture to make way for the new stuff. Yikes! Oh well. And so it goes... :spin But at least that can (hopefully) be done in a day or two.
