This is my very first Pad Patter, so I thought it would be fitting to talk about firsts!

What's the most recent "fun first" you can think of?
OR...
What's the oldest "fun first" you can think of?
OR...
BOTH!

I'll go first.
The most recent "fun first" I can think of is that I weeded my front yard for the first time in awhile this morning! I don't really think weeding is fun but I do love how it looks when I'm done so that's the fun part.
The oldest "fun first" I can think of is the first time I won a contest! I won a cake at a cake walk in elementary school and I've loved cake walks (and winning) ever since!

Your turn! I can't wait to hear about all your "fun firsts"!

Hmm... I did Body Combat in my living room today for the first time. That's a first! I did it at the gym, but none near here have it.
An old first I remember is winning the Easter Seals Book-a-thon. My poor aunts and uncles that sponsored me per book really regretted it! But not as much as the one family friend that did per page! Apparently they didn't know how much I liked to read! I got to be on tv and everything.

Oh man! I don't love weeding either, but I sure do love how good it looks (for five minutes) after I do that chore. My yard/landscaping areas sure need it right now. Wanna come do mine next Monica? :giggle

Hmmm... as for fun firsts, the first thing I thought of was after I had LASIK and the day after that when I woke up for the first time and didn't have to put on glasses or contacts. That was so awesome! Unfortunately, I've aged since then and now I need glasses again, but man was that fun while it lasted!

I’ve never heard of Body Combat; is it anything like Tae Bo? I’ll have to look into it.

That’s awesome you were on TV for winning a reading contest! I didn’t read much when I was little but maybe I would have if there was a chance to win something!

I’ll be right over Karen! ;)

I bet it was amazing to go without glasses! I don’t have prescription glasses but I’m pretty dependent on sunglasses whenever I’m outside.

May 18, 2021. The first day I was able to eat a potato chip (well, anything crunchy) without breaking a tooth.
I love that you have a date to go with your fun first! And good choice for your first crunchy food! Now I want some potato chips...

Hmmmmm ... the most recent "fun first" I can think of was nearly 9 years ago. My BFF and I traveled from Virginia to California to celebrate my 60th b'day at Disneyland. I had a blast in spite of picking up a nasty 24 hour stomach bug.

Oldest "fun first" was probably being on tv in the early 1960's. My girl scout troop went to The Bozo the Clown show in Washington, D.C. Willard Scott was Bozo. He was the creator of, and the original Ronald McDonald, and the weatherman for a local tv station.

Kinda. It's by Les Mills. It's similar to Tae Bo with kickboxing and karate and punching, but they use some yoga poses too. There's more modifications for lower impact and beginners which makes me happy.

Total non-sequitur: How long did it last? I've considered it off and on over the years, but I've always worried it would come back too fast and not be worth the expense.

I loved the one time I celebrated my birthday at Disneyland! I'm sorry you picked up a stomach bug though...

You and Courtney are both TV stars?! So fun! I have heard of Bozo the Clown but not Willard Scott so thanks for teaching me something new!

Yesterday became the first time I've had a child with a driver's license. They are almost 19 and my second child, so it took longer than usual.
I thought you might chime in with this after last night's chat Michele. That's an exciting first! I was the kid who wanted to get mine as close to my birthday as possible but waiting longer seems to be more common now.

Most recent fun first was being able to park in a handicap parking spot with my new permit on July 28, 2022. I put off getting one for a long time, but it really does save me because I can save the steps I would use to walk across a parking lot inside the store. And believe me, every step counts! At first I didn't think it was that fun, but I've used it a couple of times now and each time I've exclaimed, "what a blessing!"

And since I'm going with a car-related first for the most recent, I'll share one for the oldest fun first. My first car. It was a white 1984 Chevy Cavalier hatchback. I got it during the fall of my senior year, and it was so much better than driving my dad's truck which had a whip antennae and a metal dog box on the back for his hunting dogs. LOL

Yay for closer parking Cheryl! I can totally hear you saying “what a blessing” in your sweet voice and it makes me smile.

Is that your own photo of your first car? It’s so cute!

My most recent "fun first" was last week, when my five year old read his entire reader to me unassisted. Despite having two bookworms for parents, he hasn't shown any interest in learning to read and I'm so excited for the new worlds that will open to him once he's mastered it.

I think it was about 14 years before I needed glasses for seeing the small print on medicine bottles and for reading. I wish I had done it a decade earlier, but my astigmatism was really bad and I was a good candidate for a long time. It was totally worth it to me! We were able to put money away in flex over two years to pay for it, so it wasn't bad at all.
