Shortly we're heading away for a bit of a break. DD is not a great flyer and prefers planes not to be involved at all with travel so there's a lot of pre-flight prep - anti-motion sickness tablets, she thinks those wrist bands help so we do those, 'ear planes' that kind of screw into your ear and help relieve the change in pressure, sucking on lollies, there's generally crying before we've even got off the runway, oh and she won't sit in a window seat because that just reminds her she's not on the ground. Her self talk i don't think is helpful but that brings me the long way around to today's fast four about flying (I'm borrowing Courtney's idea & shortening it ;-) )

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other?

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?)

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)?

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals?

1. Some flights have been okay, but one in India I absolutely hated - had really bad ear ache for the journey. So did the hostesses, they had their hands over their ears whenever possible.
2. only travelled by plane a few times.
3. I don't remember which was longer Frankfurt in Germany to Delhi India, or Frankfurt to Moscow. One took a flight path that went over the other, but I forget which.
4. My eldest daughter and my son require special medical routines for pre-flight and flight.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Don't mind the actual flying... these days all the restrictions before even getting on the plane stress me out. Last time I flew I got pulled after going through scanner both coming and going. Wanted to check same area on my arm both times. Had on the same shirt, never wearing it when flying again!

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Infrequent. Last trip was in 2013.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Columbus, Ohio to Los Angeles, California with a stop in Phoenix, Arizona. Most flights over the years have been Dayton, Ohio to various locations in Florida.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Can't think of any.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other?
I actually do like flying, one flight is awesome a second long flight less so. Living at the tip of Africa means pretty everywhere else is far.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?)
We may do a short trip a year (2 hours to Johannesburg) and an overseas trip every second year.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)?
From Cape Town to Dubai (12 Hours) Dubai to San Francisco (16 hours)

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals?
Not really, I have my flight stockings, sleeping tablets, pillow and hand sanitiser along in case.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I enjoy it okay. Sure beats driving.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Very infrequent at this point, like maybe once every 3 years. When I worked full-time, a 100 years ago (JK it was about 18 years ago) I would fly two or three times a year.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Chicago to Beijing China, 14 hours. And then another one from Hong Kong to Chicago - that one was harder since I had a new dd who was almost 2 and would only sleep if I held her standing up.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Just prayers during take-off and landing, especially landing.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I love it ...

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Normally two times a year ... for our vacations ...

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? all flights in Europe ...

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? I don't know anybody ...

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Used to love it. Now that they're jamming more passengers into smaller spaces, decreasing services, and charging for every little thing, it's not as much fun.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Infrequent

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Chicago to London

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Not really other than a big sigh of relief after the flight has passed the 5-10 minutes after lift-off point.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other?
I don't do it often enough to love it or hate it. I don't mind it. I'd love to have the money to be able to do it more often and travel internationally!

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer?
I think I've flown 4x in my life. The last time was in July 2006 to Florida.

3. Longest flight you've been on?
I flew from Indianapolis to Seattle (and back) in August 2004.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals?
Nope.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I used to enjoy flying before 9/11. Everything changed after that (as it needed to) and it just keeps getting worse and worse. I won't fly now unless it's absolutely necessary.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) I'm an "infrequent flyer". Now, it's just if I have to get up north for something (usually a funeral, sadly).

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? From Detroit to Germany.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? My rituals are stressing, stressing, stressing, making sure I have plenty of airsick meds, music (on something that the airlines haven't deemed "dangerous", headphones, to blank out everybody, then more stressing.

Funny enough, I fly to Chicago on Sunday to see @tkradtke Tracie! :fruit

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other?
I don't mind flying...but I do NOT like landing. I understand how a big tin can is able to get into the air (lift and drag etc etc), but how does it safely get back down?

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?)
My usual route was Houston to Grand Rapids, MI (nearest airport to my family). Now we rotate between flying and driving to visit family in Michigan so IDK if I have a "usual" route.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Chicago to Heathrow, which was about 7.5 or 8 hours. But there was a 3.5 hour drive from where I lived to the Chicago airport, so it was a long day!

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals?
IDK if I'd call it a ritual, but the kids and I have to chew gum (or have a lolli) at takeoff and landing, simply to avoid the ear issues. Oh, and I love having Skittles and fruity/gummy candy on a flight. Usually I crave chocolate, but not on a plane. Same thing with road trips: no chocolate, but I gotta have Life Savers Gummies.

1. Traveling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I used to love it in the long long long ago days, when a flight from Washington DC to London allowed us to let our children sleep on the floor of the center section and each of us parents sleep across the 5 seats of that center Or in an empty row! Now I still am glad flying's an option but I really mind the to-ing and fro-ing of actually getting on the plane. Regs, rules etc. Sad.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Usually one or two flights a year and often to Boston. Until last fall, we also used to have at least one international RT flight a year. We're flying to Phoenix the month, he's going to Alaska in June (god willing) and I'm flying to Newfoundland in July.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Oh my, one that I'll never forget...my mother was dying and I flew from Lilongwe Malawi to Johannesburg RSA (where I had enough time between connecting flights to buy myself an Ostrich egg. My then husband thought it was a stupid idea when we'd been in Capetown earlier. I held that egg on my lap for the rest of the flight...) RSA on to Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire where we were allowed out on the tarmac but it was hot & humid as h*ll in the dead of the night so most of us just went back inside and ...waited, then on to London and then Washington DC . 30 hrs. But I still have that egg!!

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? The only ritual I have is I usually wear my Maryland socks - tweedy gray with red crabs on them - and a pair of Croc sandals so I can walk through TSA easily and put real shoes on upon arriving or wear them if it's hot and rainy. Overseas flights? I skip dinner and take an Ambient. zzzzz

1) HATE FLYING
2) as least possible as I can
3) 9.5 hrs to California. There was a fire in California so we flew in circles for almost 3 hrs!
4) yeah, a drink and a Benadryl or something stronger.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Love it, love it, love it!!

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) I wish!!

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? From Greensboro, NC to Sacramento CA or from Charlotte, NC to Mexico City. I'm not sure right off which one was longer lol

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Nope, everyone I've been flying with loves it and we just get on and go :)

Well, start sending good flying vibes my way. I just spur-of-the-moment agreed to fly to Oklahoma with my DD and family, in July! Hubby is going too, so he keeps me calm. The tickets are already purchased, so I'm going to fly the "friendly skies"??.

1. Traveling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I love traveling by plane - all the hoopla beforehand -security, getting there, parking, luggage not so much. But flying I do like as long as it is not too long.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Not so much these days - but I used to be one of those freq flyers that always got upgrades to first class because I had so many miles.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? To Europe is the furthest I've gone. I hope to change that though!

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Not that I'm aware of.

just want to wish you a very enjoyable trip!

Good timing - I'm actually flying out bright and early tomorrow morning (4/6). Boarding at 4:45, Departing at 5:15 am., landing in Tampa at 7:45 am. It's going to be a long day since we can't check into the condo on Siesta Key until at least 5 o'clock. So we are going to meet some friends at Busch Gardens. We return home on Easter night.

1. Traveling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Sure beats driving.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) Since retirement, we've been flying a lot. We registered for TSA Precheck last year and it really makes things so much easier. I highly recommend it.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - I'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? I've had a couple of long flights - Pittsburgh to Toronto to Vancouver and then back home from Fairbanks, AK to Minneapolis to Pittsburgh, flying all night.

Tied with that - Pittsburgh to NYC to London Heathrow, then back home from London to Atlanta to Pittsburgh. I think that was the roughest one.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? The only thing I do is to use a Lysol wipe to clean off the trays, the armrests, the seat belt buckles, and anything else that we might touch. I don't want to get sick.

Oh poor thing. It is so hard when that is just what has to happen. My friend said her fear of flying was cured after having airlines mess up their flights and they were stuck in two different airports over three days on the way to Europe. She said the relief to be finally on the plane overwrote her fear and she has been fine ever since.
My SIL on the other hand. No problem with flying at all. Had one horrendous flight (lots of turbulence and fly arounds to be able to land) and her the kids were so terrified that they hired a care, caught the boat back to Melbourne (Spirit of Tasmania) and drove home (to Inverell, 13 hour drive). Hasn't flown since.

Here's my four:

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Love flying, as long as I can NOT think about Air Crash Investigations which is a morbid favourite of mine and my sister.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) We moved to Tasmania in 2013, so we were flying back 2-3 times a year, but now with two kids it is getting too expensive so we only do the trip once usually. Same route, Launceston to Sydney, 1.5 hours then a 3-4 hour drive north to Mum's house.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Longest flight was our trip to USA. We flew from Launceston to Melbourne (1 hr), then Melbourne to LA (14 hr), then LA to Orlando (4 hr-ish)... so total fly time approx 19 hours. It was long. We had a bit of turbulence on the international flight, but the others were fine.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Not really any rituals. We just make sure we have some "sucky lollies" and some snacks because they are so expensive on the plane.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? I would rather fly than drive. But I hate dealing with getting to the airport. It is almost an hour away, and if we go during rush hour it takes longer than that. And then trying to find a parking spot. So I am basically a nervous wreck until we are at the gate. Well maybe on the plane because I often wonder if there will be room in the overhead bin for our bags. But I like flying more than driving really!!!

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) I fly maybe twice a year. It is much less now than before. We used to fly to Vegas all the time when Northwest was around and we could get round trip tickets for $150 round trip. There was one year where we went six months in a row. But alas those days are long gone.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)?
Detroit to Tokyo to Singapore about 23 hours and that is not with any crazy long layovers. I think we were in the air for about 13 hours for first leg and about 7or 8ish for the second leg. Detroit to Bora Bora was long too about 20 hours. And did I say I can't sleep on a plane? But I would still rather fly than drive even for a short trip.

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Hmmmm, not really. Worrying about missing our flight until I am at the gate?? Does that count? Because that is me all the time.

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? Somewhere in between. I don't like sitting still for long periods of time or being wedged around a bunch of sick people. I hate the amount of time it takes to navigate - 2 hours before the flight, the delays, the flight time, etc ... a 2 hour flight, is always a 5 hour commitment, lol.

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) I travel for work at least 4-5x/year (bicoastal) and I usually travel for fun a couple times.

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Seattle to France

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? Nope :)

1. Travelling by plane - love it, hate it or other? depends on the circumstance really

2. Are you a regular or frequent flyer? (do you fly the same route often, maybe to see family?) not a particularly regular flyer though the past year i’ve flown for 5 trips domestically

3. Longest flight you've been on (from where to where is good enough - i'm not expecting you to know distances etc)? Auckland to Vancouver via Los Angeles (about 18 hours actually flying but was closer to 24 with delays and stopovers)

4. Do you or someone you know have pre-flight or in-flight rituals? My mum has to take sealegs or something similar. My only preflight things are making sure I have special assistance booked (wheelchair help to and from check in to plane, just makes it easier for me to manage a full day of travel particularly if i’m on my own)
