Let's talk vision correction.

Do you wear glasses? contacts? since what age? As a child? adult?

Are you good at keeping your annual check-ups? :hiding (P.S. I do not simply b/c I cannot afford new glasses every single year... which they have yet to tell me I do not need)

I literally went from no correction to trifocals a few years ago... at the age of 40. Stereotype much? Pffft. My distance is still not that bad so I don't have to wear them ALL the time, but I've noticed that I absolutely need them to read/computer/see anything clearly that is closer than 5 feet from me :giggle

And I'll admit that I struggled a bit with it. They are just not easy to get used to. Stairs were a challenge at first and those rims... they are always there, LOL.

I know, whine, whine. Thank heavens for these magical inventions. Still...

I loved my glasses when I first got them (at 23? I think). I've worn them on and off for the past 6 ish years. Currently, not wearing them because they were stolen in the "great purse theft of 2014" in my life. Lol. This year, my insurance would only pay for contacts, and I don't need/want them that bad. Next year, back to glasses. And hopefully won't lose them this time. Though, I do still have my first pair of frames, but they've already had the lenses replaced a couple times, and I was just bored with them.

I got mine when I was 8. My mother was convinced my vision was fine and I was complaining for attention, but took me to the eye doctor anyway. When I couldn't see the big E, she felt horrible. Then when I put on my glasses for the first time, and we went outside, I asked what all the lines in the sky were (power lines). I'd never seen them before. I'm glad it's standard to start checking children's vision early now!

I definitely do not get mine checked every year, but my Rx hasn't changed in about 10 years. I get them checked when I need new frames. I know it's inevitable they'll change eventually but if I'm not noticing a problem, I will wear my frames into the ground. :P

Glasses here since 3rd grade. Making the transition to bifocals hasn't been great, they help but not enough. Or maybe it's too much. Whatever they cause more problems that I realize they help I guess.

Lorry same story here! My mom felt so bad. Oh and I get regular checkups I just might stretch it to 15 months.

When I was a teenager, I went to the eye doctor and he told me that I definitely needed glasses, so I got them but wore them rarely. I went to a different doctor a year later who told me there was absolutely no reason I needed glasses...weird. Now, I have reading glasses and pretty much get whatever I can at the dollar store. I don't have any difficulty with anything except things like medicine bottle labels and really small package directions.

I had glasses at fourteen, I'm shortsighted. I had perfect vision one year, and needed glasses the next!

I wore them for school and tv at first and in my twenties started wearing them all the time. I had a friend whose eyesight was about the same as mine and we were out together one night and she spotted someone across the bar. She screwed her face right up to squint at them to see if it was a particular person we knew. I thought she looked completely ridiculous! But then I realised that I was doing the exact same thing! I thought it would be much cooler to wear my glasses all the time, than to look like a complete moron LOL!

Now in my forties, my shortsightedness is improving, but I am getting longsighted. This is exactly what the optician predicted.

I wasn't able to have contacts when I wanted them (in my twenties) as I have astigmatism and the ones I needed were too expensive. Now I am older and so used to glasses, I wouldn't bother!

I use glasses since I was in second grade, so did my mom and my sister.

my eyes were always 20/20.

until two and half years ago... i started to need "readers" to see really small print. i JUST this week had to stop in and get a new pair with the next level of magnification. :( and while driving long distance last weekend, i realized maybe i don't see so clearly at night.

i don't go like i should either. maybe it's time for an eye exam for me. thanks for the nudge.

I got my first pair when I was about 22 - should have had them before that I suspect...

I need bifocals now, my last eye test was last year and the optometrist told me I didn't need them quite yet but I think I do now.

I had my first contact lenses last year, not through choice but circumstances. we were in NZ for a driving holiday. My husband who was doing most of the driving, hurt his back and couldn't drive. The next day the lens fell out of my glasses somewhere (probably when I was putting my sunglasses on) and so I was effectively blind as a bat except for my prescription sunnies. So a quick visit to the local eye guy and I was in contacts for the rest of the trip. Not a big fan..

I've had glasses since high school. I wear graduated lenses now (3 different focal points - reading, computer screen and everything else) and I can't see a thing without them. Sadly I can't seem to wear contact lenses anymore, haven't been able to for about the last 5 years. They just irritate my eyes too much, even the really really expensive ones.

Started with a very ugly pair of glasses that my dad picked out for me in 4th grade and moved to contacts in 7th grade. Been wearing them for 26 years. (Yikes! That's a long time!)

I think I am the first to reply on here for NO glasses, contacts, eye issues! If you can believe it...I have never even had a real eye exam, and the same goes for my husband! I feel out of the norm in this thread. I am sure I will need some sort of reading glasses or something as I get older, but not pushing for that anytime soon!

I have worn glasses since 2 years old so I've been wearing them for 26 years now. I too don't go for check ups often enough either due to $$$ - Last time was May 2014 & previous to that was mid 2010

I have had glasses since 9 years old. I refused to tell my parents I could not see. My teacher ended up telling my mom after she had to move my desk directly in front of the chalkboard (lol!). I have to get yearly check ups (retina issues and some other degeneration). I tried contacts but my eyes are just too dry. I had an one optometrist tell me that some of that discomfort is because my contacts would be thicker (high prescription amount), so that was another reason for them irritating my eyes.

I'm very nearsighted. I started wearing glasses in kindergarten. In second grade they started me on a program with hard contact lenses that was supposed to gradually reshape my eyes and improve my natural vision. It didn't end up helping that much, and I had a lot of corneal abrasions. I finally more or less gave up on them in high school and just wore my glasses.

When I started college I got rigid gas permeable contacts (much easier on the eyes!), and I wore those until I was 30. The hassle wasn't worth it anymore once I had a baby to take care of. I've just worn glasses since then, even though my kids are way beyond the baby stage now. :giggle

I switched to progressive lenses about 5 years ago I think. I'm way overdue for a new pair. I have to work really hard to find the right spot to see some days, especially when working at my computer. And I end up just taking them off for some close things now. They are just so expensive, but I think I'm going to have to give in and go get some new ones soon.

I can't see without my glasses. I get my eyes checked every two years, but there has been little change over the last five or so. I am supposed to wear bifocals, the Dr keeps trying to convince me, but honestly they make me nauseous. so I cart around two pairs. and i do not have to move my head around like a snake to see things. For me its worth it. Insurance covers about half the cost of one pair every second year, but can't live without them so - it is what it is. My husband and I both just ordered new ones. He wears bifocals though and doesn't seem to have the problem with them I do. I can't even imagine trifocals....

I'm pretty sure I was born needing glasses, I got them when I was 4 I think. Big fat thick ones. We never had money growing up so I always got the cheapest frames and they were also thick and black. Gag! As soon as I was allowed (in 8th grade) I switched to gas permeable semi-hard contacts and I LOVED them. I could see So much better with them. Somewhere around 30 my eyes started to get really irritated by contact though, and I thankfully was able to have LASIK done. Now I see better than ever with no contacts or glasses. I know I'll need glasses again at some point as I age, but for now, I'm living it up! :)

I got glasses in 4th grade, switched to contacts my sophomore year of high school and then got LASIK in 2003. I am so glad I had that surgery! My vision is still great.

I got contacts when I was 16. I remember walking out of the eye doctor and being so surprised at how clear everything was. My mom was one that never took us to doctors or whatever. I've worn contacts ever since except for a couple of times when I had to switch to glasses for some weird reason (like my eyes growing extra blood vessels for oxygen or something gross). I am allergic to my own eye proteins, so it is kind of strange, and I have to be sure to keep my contacts clean and not wear them overnight. I'm nearsighted, but now realize that I have to use the lowest power of reading glasses for little teeny tiny print. Otherwise, my eyes haven't changed much over the years. I hate wearing glasses because of my weird neck/brain issues, and I get a headache from the weight/effort of keeping them on. LOL. I'm such a weenie.
