I was gifted two tulips for Easter a few weeks ago and I’m trying to decide if I can transplant them successfully. We are in the process of redoing our yard so I don’t know if they’ll be safe anywhere in the ground, but I’m wondering if they’ll be okay in a pot until the yard is finished.

Do any of you have experience transplanting tulips? I would love any and all advice! My mom said they’re picky about how they’re planted which doesn’t give me hope because I don’t have a green thumb. The gift giver teased that they’ll be looking for them in my yard which makes me even more nervous!

I’d also like to chat about flowers in general.
What flowers do you like? Colors?
Do you have any flowers inside or outside where you live?
I’ve noticed a lot of flower photos in the gallery lately and I’m hoping the cold goes away so I can see more outside soon!

I currently have tulips coming up in my front yard, and it almost feels as if I don't deserve them: they were planted by the previous homeowners (so: at least 3 years ago), and I've never done whatever it is you're supposed to do in order to maintain them. So: no advice from me! but good luck with the transplant.

I love tulips. They're so cheerful and optimistic. I also love old-fashioned "English garden" flowers (in soft pink, lilac, yellow, etc).

I’m glad you get to enjoy tulips without any work! Lucky you! I have always loved tulips because we had them in our yard when I was growing up.

My favorite flowers in the spring are buttercups. They are my favorite color, they are cute, and they fill up my lawn every April - May. I stole this photo via Google Images, but my lawn looks just like this.

In the late summer, a yellow wildflower called tickseed blooms along the roadsides around me; then, that's my favorite. Again, not my own photo.

Love those yellow flowers Michele! Much prettier than the yellow dandelions that cover my lawn. ;)

My favorite flowers in my yard are my pink peonies and then for about 2-3 days my bright orange poppies. I wish those poppies last a little longer! It always seems to rain right when they bloom and then their delicate petals all get knocked off. Boo! I also have a hibiscus plant that has humungous blooms in July that I love!

What flowers do you like?
I love them all, but I especially love gardenias because of their heady fragrance.

Colors?
Again, you won't find me saying no to any color of flower. I'm not a huge fan of orange, but I'll still take an orange flower

Inside, I have fake plants and flowers because of my cat. She will eat any vegetation. I've gotten bouquets before and had to hide them on top of the fridge or the pantry, which defeats the purpose of having them. Sometimes I get lucky and can put the vases in places she can't get to, but we still have to watch her carefully! Outside, we have a variety of flowers, including gardenia, amaryllis, hydrangea, passion vine, walking iris, azaleas, and more.

I love flowers but mostly as they exist in nature. I know this is weird, but I'm ambivalent about cut flowers -- I love the "idea" of someone caring enough to send me flowers but I don't love watching them slowly die in my house. :giggle

My favorite flowers are tulips and peonies.

"wondering if they’ll be okay in a pot until the yard is finished." - YES! Because they are bulbs and can over winter easily- Tulips make great container flowers! I would wait for the flower to die off so that you only transplant the bulbs. I wouldn't say they are picky per se- they might not all bloom right away when transplanted, but for the most part- I dig a hole, throw them in & cover them up. lol! My tulips come up every year- now if the deer would just leave them alone....

My favorite flower is a daffodil- I love the multicolored ones, but just the all yellow are still pretty. I've planted them all over around our house, so that I can see them out of almost every window! A lot of mine are coming up now, but no flowers yet- it's still too cold.

I love flowers! All the flowers and I can’t pick one favorite. I love the wild ones and the ones I grow in my garden. Last year was the first year growing zinnias and farewell-to-spring and they both flowered greatly and I enjoyed them in bouquets. I hope I’ll have the same luck with them this year.

My mom has pink peonies by her mailbox that I love! She gets mad any time someone accidentally runs over them or forgets to water them haha the bright orange poppies and hibiscus sound amazing!

I love lilacs and billy balls
But also a huge fan of roses and peaonies
I had to look up billy balls and was afraid what that search might bring up lol thankfully it only brought up pretty yellow flowers haha

Ooh I love all your flower pages Cheryl! The moment I read gardenias I thought of smelling them. I love to smell any roses I see but I've learned to watch for bees and spiders on them before I take a sniff. ;) That's crazy you have to hide vegetation from your cat!

I don't love watching them slowly (or quickly in my case) die in my house either haha when they're outside I can blame other factors, but when they're inside I feel like it's all my fault!

Thanks for the tulip advice Amie! I'm glad they're not too picky in your experience. A few of my neighbors have daffodils and I love seeing the pretty pops of yellow in their yards.
