Happy Friday everyone!

I thought it would be fun to do a flashback Friday. Share with me what you’re doing today and how it’s different (if at all) from what you were doing last year in January. (I’ll be using my phone calendar to assist my brain in remembering lol)

Today: met with daughter’s school counselor, worked out, donated plasma, going grocery shopping, going to daughter’s basketball game.

Last year on January 17: worked out, babysat my cousin’s baby boy, coached my daughter’s basketball game (so glad I don’t have to coach this year but kinda wish I was so she could play more minutes).

Today I went to the grocery before the polar temps arrive. Now I'm home and will be working on today's lesson in learning Affinity Photo.

Last year, I was getting a blood transfusion, then pre-op blood testing for surgery the next day. My cousin and I left my house at 6 a.m. for the 8 a.m. appointment (90 minutes away) and it was COLD (was bitter cold on the 19th too). The hospital has a lodging facility (8 small cabins) that surgery patients can use for 1 night and they arranged for us to use one of them. After all the pre-op stuff we went to get something to eat since we missed lunch. Found a pizza place and ordered one to go. Next door was a "Nothing Bundt Cakes" so we went in there and got our dessert while waiting for the pizza. Once we got the pizza, we headed to the overnight lodging and settled in for the night.

I don't specifically remember the date, but in mid January last year we were unpacking in the new province, in the new house. We didn't know anyone, so had no one to visit with and the weather was colder than we were used to, so we were indoors quite a bit.

Now we have a large network of friends and activities to do most days of the week. We have grown to love the climate, the sunny days and dry snow and the cold fluctuates a lot so we might have some really cold days but then it warms up 20-30 degrees for a number days.

Today we'll be at the center, playing Mexican Train in the early afternoon. Following that, we put the games away and get the tables ready for the Ten Thousand dice game we play from 3-7 with a potluck dinner halfway thru. We usually get 2-3 tables of 6-8 people. We have wine/beer and socialize, it's fun.

Apart from the usual daily stuff.
Today: Helping eldest prep for returning to university. Sorting out medical stuff for my son.

Last year - running my first MOC challenge, and helping my youngest with her GCCE art project. Also helping my eldest with preparations for returning to university :D

This year: work, then out to dinner with friends and then cards (euchre) afterwards.

Last year: work and choir practice for me. Also it looks like my youngest who was still in high school had a snow day instead of end of the semester exams.

Today: Writing functional specs documentation at work. I have a virtual strength training exercise class later on this afternoon. Looking forward to the weekend despite the very cold temps coming: -18C is the high on Saturday/Sunday with a low of -27C. Brrr!

Last January: I was between projects at work and taking courses in Python and test automation.

This year: work related to TLP

Last year: work at my old job and questioning my life choices.

Today: Chilling at home. Some bill paying, some chores, reading. I’m off on Friday’s, and today I don’t really have errands so I’m relaxing. My vacation from vacation. lol!

Last Year: I had COVID for the first time and was stuck in my bedroom watching tv on my laptop, snoozing. Couldn’t focus on reading much, so silly reality TV… Below Deck.

Good idea getting groceries before the polar temps. I hope you’ve fully recovered from surgery last year.

What a difference a year makes! I’m glad you’ve found your people and I wish I was playing Mexican Train with you!

How fun that you ran your first MOC challenge last year. Good job helping your kids with all the things both years too.

I hope you enjoy dinner and cards tonight! I didn’t know you sang in a choir; my older sister has always mocked my singing so I know that’s a skill I don’t have lol

Sounds like you’re very smart and work hard! I think it’s super cold here but it’s barely below freezing; stay warm!

Big change for you! I hope you’re not still questioning your life choices lol we love you here!

Yay for a chill Friday this year! Quite the improvement from last year’s sickness I’m sure. Enjoy!

I don’t use my Outlook calendar much to keep a diary of events, but it does show that last year our regular Friday family dinner was hosted at my place. It is often followed by a game of cards. Today, we’re watching the final episode of Outlander Season 7. Dinner is at Laurie’s this time, and as usual, we’ll wrap up the evening with cards or a board game.

Sounds like you have fun Fridays Carol! Enjoy!

Today: I just got back from grocery shopping and I'm hoping to get a nap in before hubby gets home from work. I'm also missing my grandbabies because I live in Georgia now, and Maddyn lives in Utah and Weston lives in Texas.

Last Year in January: Jan 17, 2024 was a Wednesday, so I probably posted my layouts for SOSN and went to water aerobics. I wasn't a grandma yet, but knew my first grandbaby was coming in June.

Today, we're having a lazy day after doing a light day of homeschool. I'm working on scrapping my kiddo's latest video game play-through and he keeps coming in to give me feedback (which I am loving, even if he said the background has to be a solid when I was hoping to use a subtle pattern).

Last year was a pretty chill day. Nothing on the calendar and my only photo in Google Photos is a picture of a GIANT matzoh ball. Clearly my husband talked me into soup for dinner.
