I've made plain/pre-styled photo albums from Costco and Shutterfly before, and I've printed a few loose sheets of my scrapbook pages, but this is the first time I've completed an album. I work slowly and not in order, so lots of stuff has never been printed. My motivation was finishing this as a Christmas gift for my sister and myself. I just got my Disney album from Presto Photo and WOW! I used the cheapest paper, softcover, 8.5" and it was $37 plus shipping. For over 105 pages I didn't want to shell out a huge amount and this was the cheapest option I found. I was worried about the quality but it turned out great! I lost a little around the edges to trimming and binding but nothing too major. Everything was still readable, even in the binding area. I love seeing all the shadows I agonized over looking so good. Need to work faster so I can print more books!
It's so fun when it's all your own. I enlarge by background to 12.5 usually or what fits well in the book to give that extra for binding and trim. Or just check your edges real well. Congratulations.
looks fantastic and i recognise some of those pages! what a great gift - i'm sure you're sister will be stoked. (I've only done soft cover once -no loose pages?! or is it stitched? i wouldnt have thought that they could do an album with so many pages! It was ages ago - like maybe 10yrs, so maybe things have changed for the better - thanks for sharing the pics
@carilyne That's a good idea for next time. I just checked that text or faces weren't getting cut off. I'll try adding extra margin for other albums. @bellbird pretty sure it's just glued. Like a cheap paperback maybe? It seems to work.
I love it! There is nothing like actually getting your hands on your pages when they are printed, lol! My kids "pet" the pages when they look at them! It's so exciting! I hope she loved her copy and oooed and ahhhed it many times. For my edges, I keep most of the important stuff inside of a small margin, I use the guides on my pages, every time, so I don't lose important items. Here are a couple of SWL blog posts that touch on that subject... here, and here. The second link has a freebie.
I'm glad you love it. Here are some page guides from Scrapping with Liz to help with the edges. I use them on every layout and have not lost anything since I started using them. http://www.scrappingwithliz.com/2014/02/guides-video-tutorial-freebie.html
It looks awesome! I have several disney books in the works, but haven't finished scrappin any of them. I really need to just pick a trip and do it from start to finish so I can print a book. My hubby would love that. I guess I'm just a little ADHD and can't seem to focus on one project. There's just too many fabulous kits out there drawing me away to play with them on a different project... hehe
