Some great advice in this thread! I love clusters, and am getting better at making my own (though still have much to learn, much room for improvement).

@littlekiwi I'm NOT a minimalist, far from it. But even so, I used to always choose the dressed down rather than dressed up version of Cheryl's templates. Then I did what @LoveItScrapIt suggests, and challenged myself to replace every layer/element on the template with something from the kit (in this case, Elif Sahin's Home for the Holidays):

I was very happy with how it turned out, and I now choose the dressed up rather than dressed down version of Cheryl's templates!

If you haven't already, check out this Watch Cheryl Scrap LIVE! session where I held a "master class" on clustering.

I go through several layouts at the beginning, and then end the session by creating two different layouts with clusters.

For me personally, I find it easier to cluster if I'm working with nature-inspired elements - flowers, leaves, branches, twigs. Then I tuck in some paper pieces, add some buttons or brads, a piece of ribbon or string, a hanging tag. Then I'll add a few more flowers or leaves around the edges, maybe a few more paper pieces. I sort of build from the center, if that makes sense.
