Favorite Ring Bound Planner

I'm lading out to get a simple stories carpe diem a5 planner in November. They look beautiful and seem to fit well with current color schemes and I'll be able to add stuff to it from the lily pad. Now I just have to be patient enough to wait.

I have a Filofax because I really wanted the size and appearance of the purple pocket Malden. But now I'm looking into what refills can fit in it in case something else is better than the official Filofax ones. I've use the Filo ones all year and they're fine enough, but I don't mind having a look around.

 

I'm totally obsessing over planners, but can't keep one for the life of me. I have an old Day-timer and Franklin Covey around that I've been toying with using, but I have to figure out how to make it something I will stick to. Both of those are 7-holed, so I need to get a hole punch for them. The FC came with one that fit inside, but it will only punch like a page at the time. Ain't nobody got time for that.

For me, the ring binders are a must. I may buy a cute (spiral) planner at Target, but forget it and then half of the year (or more) is over and it has gone to waste. At least with ring binders, you just have to add new stuff. LOL.

There are so many out there and so many different types/styles... it is crazy! You can spend days just looking at all of them or how people set them up. I actually listened to/watched a 45 minute explanation on one with the ResetGirl. I saw some others that were so heavily decorated, I don't know how you would ever be able to tell what you are planning

 

I have so many blank pages for my Daytimer portable 3 3/4" x 6 3/4" 6 hole. , I only have a cheap plastic hole punch for 1 page that came with first set.

I would like to change to a size, a hole punch is available and a page easy to cut for it

shame hole puncher's were more avaiable like they were in old days, when offices were paper ran, never got a roladex 3x5 one
either.

 

I am actually liking the disk binders. I've been using them for work for the past year... I love that they're so easy to put pages in/take pages out. There IS a special hole puncher for it, but it's universal, no matter what size the pages are - so you can use the same puncher for a letter size or a 5x7 or whatever floats your boat. Also, you can buy really inexpensive covers @ staples for them. OR you could laminate a custom cover & then punch it. Just a thought.

 

Did you mean disk binders, like 11.5 x 13. Novel thought.... I might try.

 

Here's an example of what I'm talking about... they are little discs (you can get them in different sizes, depending on how thick you need your binder to be) that hold the papers together. Also, there are folders and inserts and different supplies available. The whole system is completely customizable.

Yes, I just did a search for the arc binder system on Staples' search bar, and linked you to the results... did it not work? It should show you the round discs that you use for the binders, the pockets w/ the pre-punched holes in it, the refill paper, the notebooks you can buy.

I bought one of the notebooks, the filler pages I wanted to use and the folders I needed, and made my own. That's the beauty of the system - it's 100% customizable.

If you want a premade version of the planner instead of making your own planner, levenger sells this style of system in a couple different formats of planners. worth a look as well.

 

I just spent all morning looking through this planner after reading your post. I really like it and think this will be my next planner. Hate that the wait is so long but it gives me time to start saving because I can already see I am going to need ALL the extras.

 

Okay, you guys got me sucked in! I ordered a disc-bound planner last night! I'm super excited to get it!

 

I know right?! I've been on the search for a ring bound that I can justify spending the money on. I couldn't find the "perfect" one until I was watching the new releases for the summer scrapbook releases. I'm kinda worried about how much money I'm going to pour into this thing. Hoping my hubby will "buy" it for me for my birthday or Christmas....then I can justify the cost a little easier

 

what kind of paper would you recomend printing on

 

I would print on a heavier weight printer paper to prevent ink bleed when printing 2-sided. Not sure if any of the hybrid girls have better input than that. I'm not very technical or savvy when it comes to hybrid goodness.

 

Ugh, I just through away my package of paper that I printed my planners on. If I remember right it was 32 lb. It is just a heavier type of printer paper like Rebecca suggested. I would imagine if you are printing any of Just Jaimee's or Forever Joy's planner pages you may need to go even heavier on the paper due to the colored ink saturating the pages. With those you might have to go as heavy as a lightweight cardstock.

You know I have the same disc bound one as you Jen, the Mambi planner. For my first planner, it was economical. I wanted to make sure I would really use it. I like it and may just stick with it. I did have my eye on the Webster ring bound one/personal size, but at the time I was looking I thought it was just too small. Then right after I purchased the Mambi planner, Webster announced their new A5 size.

I've had my eyes on that one for a future planner purchase, but just checked out the Simple Stories one mentioned by Jewel above, and love that one as well. If I decide to buy a new one ... it probably won't be until next year, but I would probably get one of those two in the A5 size.
