First - yeah! It's Wednesday! The (work) week is half over!

It's snowing today. Again. Apparently, we've gotten 1/2 our average snowfall in the last 36 hours. Ugh. It makes me long for spring! Which made me think about rain and umbrellas. Plus, it's National Umbrella Day. I got a new umbrella for Christmas that has a blue sky underliner so it'll always be sunny for me (my husband's words). I left the last umbrella I had in a church when protecting the bride from the rain.

Here are my Fast Five Questions - all about umbrellas!
  1. Do you have an umbrella?
  2. What's it look like?
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella?
  4. Do you use an umbrella?
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella?

  1. Do you have an umbrella? I do have a few umbrellas but not sure in what state they are in
  2. What's it look like? If it’s the one I’m thinking of....it’s a dark blue folding one. I only ever use folding ones as I’m less likely to leave it somewhere
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Not intentionally but yes, usually the metal starts poking through or the wind catches it.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Yes, I always carry it with me. The only exception is if I’m travelling to Wellington @LynnG will 100% understand why - way too windy https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/88558603/what-is-it-that-makes-wellington-so-windy Family once asked me if I was taking an umbrella with me and I said nope, it’s useless down there. I once had a four wheeled suitcase start to take off in the wind when I came out of the airport and I was loosely holding onto the suitcase as well.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Possibly but I hadn’t thought much about that.

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes
  2. What's it look like? It's black and oversized.
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Yes, but not on purpose. Usually it's the wind that turns them inside out and breaks the spines.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Yes
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Sure, there are times that my house could use a good tidy up and she would make quick work of that! LOL

1. I have a collapsible umbrella that stays in the car. Probably over 30 years old and been in at least 4 different vehicles.
I also have 4 regular umbrellas in a Longaberger umbrella basket right inside the front door. Basket also has 4 walking canes that Mom got from who knows where and a small USA flag and a small Ohio flag. One of the umbrellas is pretty big when opened and was a promotional umbrella from LaChoy Foods back in the 70's. My uncle was a salesman for them and gave all the family umbrellas for Christmas one year!
2. One in car is red/white. LaChoy is also red/white. The other three are plain colors... 2 beige (same umbrella but one was mine and one was my parents) and a black one.
3. Probably have but actually don't remember. I mean I've been around for a lot of years so plenty of opportunity to ruin an umbrella.
4. Not so much anymore because I tend to avoid going out if it is raining!
5. Nope.

Oh, I love the idea of a blue sky lined umbrella! How fun!
  1. Do you have an umbrella? We have several. We keep a few large ones by the front door, compact ones in the vehicles and a couple of extras by our coats, and really compact ones in the kids' backpacks.
  2. What's it look like? The large ones are red, pink, and a black and white check. For the compact ones, there is a red/orange sectioned one, a yellow, a blue, a black, and a blue one with yellow smiley faces. DS's is black, and DD's is purple with white polka dots. :)
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Yes, we've had some get bent by the wind.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Not often these days, since we can usually just avoid going out if it's too rainy to dash to the car/building without one.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? That would be a pretty awesome thing to see! :)

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes, 3 of them.
  2. What's it look like? One black, one black/white pattern and one black/purple flowered one in my car.
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Yes many time. We've had some strong winds that have turned the umbrella inside out and broke a spoke.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? I live on the west coast. Couldn't live without it.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? I don't have any little ones for her to come take care of but maybe she can come in and do my housework for me :)

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes, many. I have a couple of collapsible black & white umbrellas from Costco that I keep in my car and my tote bag; my husband bought several large $5 black & white ones from Home Depot that are in a stand by the front door.
  2. What's it look like? Collapsible, with a brown handle, one is black and white striped around with a red band across the edge, the other is a black and white pattern all around. The big ones are alternating black and white panels.
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? I've had umbrellas tear apart, but not because of anything I did. I think they just wore out.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Shouldn't this have been the first question? I used to, when I was working, but now am inclined to just not go out when it might rain. I still keep an umbrella in my car, but usually I'm away from the car when I need it.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? I'm reading the Mary Poppins books right now, so I'm inclined to say No because I think she has extremely low opinions of adults in general and I couldn't handle that. I would want her to like me! LOL

1 Yes I have an umbrella ( more than 1 )
2 " golf" ones ( larger than folding , though we have one or two of those as well )maroon and brown self patterned
3 I don't think I have ruined any .
4. I seldom use any of them , I prefer a raincoat with a hood.
5. No I don't wish for Mary Poppins, but I have often felt like her, when trying to use an umbrella on a windy day, and nearly taking of.... (one of the reasons why I don't use them )

I love the idea of a blue sky underliner umbrella.
  1. Do you have an umbrella? I have two. I mean, my household has two. There was a third one when the kids were little.
  2. What's it look like? One is navy blue, folds up to a compact 9 inches or so, and I think I've had it longer than my husband, possibly. I can't recall any older umbrellas. The other is a pretty shade of light blue and I bought it on the spur of the moment from a Walgreens on the way to a Pentatonix concert a few years ago when I realized I might want it because it was raining and I had a lawn seat. The one I got for my daughter about 17 years ago was made to look like a frog head with eyes sticking up. It didn't get used much for rainy weather, but was played with enough by all three kids that it was not functioning well at some point and I eventually got rid of it.
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Nope.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Occasionally. I store them in my van because that way if I ever feel the need for one, I will have it whether I'm home or out. Since I drive everywhere (as opposed to living in a walkable city or using public transportation, which I would rather) I usually feel having an umbrella is just an extra thing to deal with and it's easier to just hurry into the building or whatever. I don't have to be out in the rain much. At least, I didn't before I began my current postal delivery job. But I having an umbrella for that wouldn't work either. I got a good rain jacket instead.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? I think my kids (19, 17, 14) are too old for a nanny. :lol2 I guess I would tell her how much my second child was obsessed with her movie at the age of 3 and then both my oldest and my second performed as the Banks sisters a few years later with their drama club. My oldest sang the the birds song :bird and made people in the audience cry, she was so moving.
Bonus umbrella story:
In 2019 when I worked in the theater box office we always had a lot of items in the corner -- the lost and found corner -- including several umbrellas. So a couple of times, when rain caught us by surprise when it was time to go home, we borrowed umbrellas to walk out to our vehicles. I didn't feel bad about this because 95% of the items were never claimed and just hung out in that corner for months and months, and I did return the umbrella to the lost and found.

Ha! Absolutely! I have a Blunt umbrella I was given free that is supposed to be able to cope with Wellington ... but if it didn't turn inside out I would probably end up in the air Mary Poppins style :ballonhang:happydance2

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes, I have a small one in the car. I have a large one for walking -- except the DD has taken it to school.
  2. What's it look like? Small one - black and white floral. Big one - black with colored dots
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Probably the wind did
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Yes, especially if I am in the car and need one
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Not really.
So I had this really big golf umbrella that was really nice. I let my son stand across the cul-de-sac with it while waiting in the rain for the school bus. I told him throw it on the ground when the bus came. Well, when I went out about a hour later, someone had taken it. I sent out an email about it but no one confessed they had taken it. I still miss it and that was 13 years or so ago.

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Several
  2. What's it look like? Most are just black, one flowery one
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Several, not by actually using them, but they get shoved in closets and trunks and floor boards.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Very rarely. I hate having something extra to carry
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Not so much lol

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes, at least two, maybe more.
  2. What's it look like? I usually buy just your basic black, but I do have a mini one that is navy blue.
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? I have had umbrellas break but not by my deliberate action.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Yes, I hate getting wet when I'm out and about.
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Not particularly.

  1. Do you have an umbrella? Yes
  2. What's it look like? It's big and black/white checked with a red border and a wooden handle
  3. Have you ever ruined an umbrella? Yes. Once, I borrowed my dad's umbrella (at work) to carry it to lunch and a big gust of wind turned it wrong side out and it fell apart. I returned it to him in a paper bag. It made for a lot of laughs that day and for many years after that.
  4. Do you use an umbrella? Absolutely
  5. Do you wish for Mary Poppins to come by on her umbrella? Who doesn't?

What's it look like? If it’s the one I’m thinking of....it’s a dark blue folding one. I only ever use folding ones as I’m less likely to leave it somewhere
A folding umbrella is a great idea! Although, I'd probably still lose it!

I once had a four wheeled suitcase start to take off in the wind when I came out of the airport and I was loosely holding onto the suitcase as well.
That is windy!

Sure, there are times that my house could use a good tidy up and she would make quick work of that! LOL
Isn't that the dream? Of course, she'd probably make me help clean.

I also have 4 regular umbrellas in a Longaberger umbrella basket right inside the front door.
I like this idea! I'll have to look up an umbrella basket.

Ha! Absolutely! I have a Blunt umbrella I was given free that is supposed to be able to cope with Wellington ... but if it didn't turn inside out I would probably end up in the air Mary Poppins style :ballonhang:happydance2
This is an intriguing challenge! Just keep collecting companies umbrellas and testing them in Wellington! Of course, make the company provide the umbrella. :giggle

It didn't get used much for rainy weather, but was played with enough by all three kids that it was not functioning well at some point and I eventually got rid of it.
We had one of those too! My kid got it and played with it all the time - no matter the weather.

All the time, I imagine we'd be great friends.
Aw! That's so sweet!

There's a small red one in my car, a colorful one in my bedroom, I have a beige one I used to use at Disney as a parasol/sunbrella
I hadn't seen umbrellas used as sunbrella's until I spent time in Vegas. I totally understand why it's a thing!

Oh man! That really sucks! I hate when I have something I love and it disappears. Especially since it always seems to be something not easily replaceable.

Very rarely. I hate having something extra to carry
I get that! My husband is the one who reminds me when I need it. Unless I'm waiting at the bus stop.

Yes, I hate getting wet when I'm out and about.

That made me laugh! I adore that you returned it in a paper bag.
