Today before the year ended and I lost my benefit, I went to the eye doctor. I am awful, I haven’t been since before the pandemic. My eyes have always been bad (I can’t even see the big “E” clearly without glasses. Between scrapping, work, and Pokémon Go I was dreading hearing how awful my eyes were going to be now.

Much to my surprise, my right eye which has always been the worst of the two got a little better. Left eye stayed about the same. I do need bifocals now so I will be getting progressive lenses. Also a a touch of cataracts starting but she said that at my age it was pretty normal. They can start as early as 40. No glaucoma.

After january 1st I will order some progressive contacts so that I can wear my sunglasses on vacay. My insurance pays for glasses or contacts not both.

Do you wear glasses? Contacts? Do you prefer me over the other? Have you had corrective surgery? Let us know!

And it’s not too late to get that annual exam in!

I’ve worn glasses since elementary school … 5th grade I think. I’ve never worn contacts … with my various environmental allergies my eyes are always itchy so I figured contacts weren’t for me.

I had cataract surgery last spring. I wish I done it sooner.

I have worn glasses for years. Never had contacts. Went into bifocals in my late 30's. I also have the start of cataracts.

I just had my eye appointment on Thursday. A slight change in my near vision, far didn't change. It was up to me whether I wanted to get new glasses with the prescription. I opted to do it since I do a lot of close up stuff (scrapping, jigsaw puzzles, reading etc). Once I know this prescription works for me, I will have new lenses put into a pair of old frames (I have 3 that I switch between now). Then in the spring I will have new lenses put into my sunglasses. There was no change in the cataracts which I was extremely happy about!

I actually wore glasses from the age of 2 to 5 because I had an eye that crossed. Then I was fine until I went to college. At that point I needed glasses especially for reading. I also wore them when driving distances. So I was an "as needed for about 15 years then I found I was wearing them more often and that's when the bifocals were needed.

I just hope the frames I chose I can wear all the time. The ones I got 2 years ago I can only wear for 2 to 3 hours because they hurt behind my ear. Believe me we have tried everything adjustment wise. That's why I have 3 pair. I also had to move away from wire frames because of the dog that likes pawing me around the face. Even Pepper and Paige did that and had to get adjustments all the time because the glasses went lopsided. Plastic frames are much sturdier!

I've worn glasses since grade 4 (8 or 9 years old). As a teenager, I couldn't wait to get contacts (had to wait until age 16, as I recall), and then wore both glasses and contacts for many years. Since the pandemic, though, I haven't bothered with contacts.

I have never worn glasses or contacts or had surgery. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Glasses since 4th grade. I got lasix at age 41 then needed reading glasses. I have glasses I wear for TV and far away and reading glasses for everything else. Cataracts are soon.

I’ve worn glasses since I was about 2 years old for everything. I’m actually overdue, well more like very overdue for an eye exam but that costs $$$ I don’t have as pretty much there’s a 99% chance it’s not just the $30-50 eye test but more like $400-600 pair of new glasses knowing my luck or lack there of.

I have worn glasses since 4th grade (nearsighted with floaters in both eyes).. For many years in my 20's I did wear soft lens contacts the kind you could also sleep in also (but didn't do that often) and wore them through my late 30s.

I decided to try again in my mid 40's (2009 time span) once I needed reading glasses as well (progressives) but found that wearing contacts and using over the counter readers was more things to carry around and I found I could not put on makeup as I needed readers to do so when I was wearing the contacts so it did not work for me.

I have scarring on my right macular (not in my line of sight) so they keep tabs on that and I too have beginnings of cataracts that they said 5 years, and I will need the surgery so I will get the corrective lens cataract surgery when the time comes and stick with my progressive glasses until that time. For photos I take my glasses off thee days :)

I started wearing glasses at age 7. When I was 13 I got contacts. For years I wore contacts with glasses at night, but now I have a pretty bad astigmatism so I have mostly only worn glasses for the past few years. Once the pandemic started I stopped wearing my contacts and just wore my glasses. I just got a new pair on December 23rd. I have some trial contacts to test out as well. I have bifocals/progressive lenses with blue-light blocking.

I do not wear glasses.... though I will need them eventually. It always happens later in life for my family. So, it will be an expectation, though I don't know when or for what? I am lucky my eyes haven't started going yet. I can still read menus, small lettering, and my phone is still on the small setting... but I do notice I don't like to drive at night as much... but not sure that is related to sight.

My husband does. He goes every year, and then orders contacts. His doctor provides the script info and then he orders glasses from Zenni. We have coverage for one or the other, and Zenni is so inexpensive he can get 10 pairs of glasses for the amount of contacts if he needed.

Ears are another story. I go for my hearing aids in January after a fiasco the last three months of getting and returning some!

I too have beginnings of cataracts that they said 5 years, and I will need the surgery

I was diagnosed with the age-related bilateral cataracts almost 6 years ago. I was told at that time that as long as they can correct my vision with prescription I would not need any surgery. He said mine had not changed much at all. Happy about that!

@jk703 I hate driving at night especially when I'm away from home. When I look back on it, it seems that started not long before I was diagnosed with the start of cataracts. The lights are what bothers me.

I think mine just stems from dark and other drivers here in NJ, lol! I can see fine, lights are good. It's a small state with the most people per square mile.

Do you wear glasses/Contacts? Technically- I HAVE glasses (no longer have contacts, they expired years ago) but I don't wear them often. My prescription is TEENY tiny & mostly just for distance. I keep my glasses in my car for nighttime driving or driving somewhere unfamiliar. I do have prescription sunglasses that I wear pretty much year round out & about though!

Do you prefer one over the other? I used to wear contacts a lot when I was in school & college- so I could see the white boards mostly and still sit in the back! lol

Have you had corrective surgery? No, not enough of a prescription to make it worth it. My husband was basically blind though & had lasix & a PRK revision done while we were together!

I have worn glasses since I was 4 years old. Ugh. I finally got contacts in 8th grade and wore those for about 20+ years. Then I had LASIK done after I had my babies. That was amazing to not need glasses or contacts for the first time in my life. Now that I'm aging I need glasses again for reading close up stuff. I tried doing contacts again, but they feel like sandpaper on my eyeballs now and I just can't do it anymore. I hate wearing glasses and having to keep them clean etc, but I need to see... so I guess I'm stuck with them for now. I have used Zenni to buy extra pair for computer vision and reading at night, but my everyday glasses are progressives now.

I was supposed to wear my contacts to work on my shirt day to see if I could see with them and I forgot, lol. Maybe Saturday.

I've worn glasses since elementary school and contacts since I was a teenager. I much prefer contacts because I am super nearsighted so my glasses are heavy and start to feel uncomfortable if I wear them too long.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 12 years old, and started wearing contacts around the age of 16. I go for my regular eye test every 2 years and every time I need a new pair of glasses as my eyes gradual get worse.

I tend to wear my glasses if sat at home, but do try to wear my contacts if going out. I am blind as a bat without my glasses or contacts.

I’ve worn glasses since I was 8. My eyes got progressively worse, even to needing bifocals after I turned 40, but with the onset of cataracts and having gone through menopause I hardly need to wear them anymore. I used to be so blind so this development has been thrilling. I used to wear contacts, but my eyes have become more dry as I age that I can’t wear them anymore. My avatar photo was taken about 15 years ago when I could wear contacts. So, I go for the fun and crazy frames because life’s too short to wear boring eyeglasses! Lol!

OMG, hubby just made us take him to get glasses yesterday $450!!!!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!!!!!!
