I have a friend who is anti any surgeries and when she found out that I'm getting ready to schedule my tubal she asked me to look into this instead. However, she has never had it done or knows anyone who has either. lol Her husband was snipped.

I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment. The part that concerns me is that it causes the body to build up scar tissue around it so rapidly - which is an inflammatory process. And it's still such a young procedure. I remember a previous doctor telling me to get the Mirena IUD when it was new and I was like "no way" and now there are all these women who had horrible complications with it.

But Essure sure sounds nice!

My best friend IRL is a doctor. I'll get her opinion for you and report back.

I have a Mirena. Lol. My 2nd one, so I've had it for about 7 1/2 years total.

I loved my Mirena. Unfortunately after five years, I had to get it out and when I went to get a new one, the insurance wouldn't cover it - and it was over $1000.

Personally, I'd rather get something reversible, and this sure doesn't sound like it could be. You never know what can happen in the future. I ended up with a Mirena, and have had no side effects. It was actually liberating, since I had such heavy monthlies before it, there were 3 days of the month where I couldn't even leave home. Ugh!

I have heard of it, but I haven't had any experience with it or known anyone who has.

My doctor talked to me about this last year and it almost sounds too good to be true. I decided against it because I wasn't 100% sure I was ready to be done. So I got another Mirena, too, and my insurance also didn't cover it, which I thought was weird.

I have heard of it but don't know any one who uses it. I use the Paragard which is like Mirena but without hormones.

I'm not giving up my IUD until I go through menopause because I LOVE NOT HAVING PERIODS.

Now with the new healthcare it would be free FYI

There is no reversal process, so you must be certain you are done. It is less invasive and less recovery than either vasectomy or tubal ligation. You do get a confirmation that it is effective with a hystosalpingogram. There are occasionally people who take 6 months to completely close, and rarely there are some who don't close at all... and then you have to use something else. However that being said there are rarely failed vasectomies and tubal ligation too.

I LOVED the Mirena and had it for over 7 years, until my DH did the snipperoo. I missed it once I took it out, but at the time the cost was too high.

my cousin had it and is so happy she did. She said it didn't hurt and her insurance covered it. I have Mirena and am happy with it. I only had to pay my normal OB/GYN copay, so I figured, Why not try it? And I'm glad I did: No visits from Aunt Flo, which I like! (I have some bleeding issues, so it's nice not to worry about the pain and stuff.) I wouldn't get that with Essure, but of course Mirena isn't permanent, so there's that to think about. I want DH to get a snippy snip (so there's NO worry about having more babies) but I still want the Mirena cuz of the "side effect" of no Aunt Flo.

i have heard it is very good... from a previous obgyn who i thought was very superb.

My OBGYN swears by it and wants me to do it. I have a heart condition so I cannot carry any more children. My insurance would not cover maybe this new one will do.
