eReaders.... which do you have?

i have the 'cheap' version of the kindle, and i LOVE it! LOVE it.
i would love to have a fire, but i'm good for now.

I had the old version of the Nook until this week. I bought it this time last year and I really loved it. But, then I got my iPhone and weirdly enough, I prefer to read on that for two main reasons... 1) It's always with me, so I can read on my break at work without carrying a big ole purse and 2) I read in bed without a light on and I just fall asleep reading and it always saves my place.

BUT, I love my Mom's new touch screen Nook too... that was much nicer than my Nook for the eInk, plus the touch screen. It was so nice to read with the eInk. She also has the Color Nook and loves that and my Dad just got the Kindle Fire and he loves that. I think pretty much you can go wrong with what's out there. If you want to play games and surf too, go for the color version, otherwise if you are only looking for a reader, the eInk is the bomb! :)

Rob has a Kindle and LOVES it so much that he's thinking of buying a second one and keeping his first one as a back up lol!
The only thing I was wondering is why so many people want the Kindle Fire, if they want a touch screen and want to read why not get a ipad??
I don't read much but when I do I use my ipad (with the kindle app)

I have the original Kindle and absolutely love it. I won't be upgrading to the Fire though because I love the original screen too much, it's so much like reading a real book.

My youngest son, my dh and I all have Kindles (with the keyboard). I bought both of them plus my oldest son Kindle Fires for Christmas. I know my boys like comics and those will be great for that. I'm not sure if my dh will use it as much as his regular Kindle, but I thought it would be fun.

I also have an iPad that I read with my Kindle app, but it's kind of big and bulky to hold on to. I just bought a new case for it and I'm hoping that makes it easier to hold on to and not constantly flip the page without meaning to!

Micheline...I think I'd rather use the Fire for reading than my iPad...mainly for the reasons of size. We all read a lot and mostly in bed. The iPad is just a pain for me to use like that. Also, I paid almost $800 for my iPad...and the Fires were only $200. I know you can get an iPad for about $500...that's still quite a bit more than the Fires.

I got a Toshiba Thrive tablet this weekend which includes a generic ereader. However, I've already downloaded the Kindle and Nook apps . . .so it's like I have both options. What I haven't figured out yet is how to get good stuff free? How do you go about connecting to a library?

i have an older kindle - which i loooooved for a long, long time.... then, i started reading w/ the kindle app on my iPhone and really never looked back. i also do a lot of reading in bed so having something small and backlit is key for me. however, i do prefer my old kindle for reading in the sun (like at the pool, etc).

i'm like debra - i don't really enjoy reading on my iPad b/c of the size ...

Kindle here - and I love it!! For me, it came down to the fact that Amazon's website was a lot more user friendly to me, and I've heard that Amazon's customer service is better.

I started with a Kindle and now I primarily read on my iPad. I like having the backlight. The size doesn't bother me, though I've dropped it quite a bit falling asleep while reading. A Kindle Fire would have been perfect for me, but I have the iPad already so I don't need it now.

In fact, I lent my original Kindle to my MIL so she could read my books. I sincerely hope she isn't reading the Fever books on there. :giggle She will certainly develop a different impression of me if she does.

I have a Nook 3G and I LOVE it!! Though I am hoping to upgrade to the Nook Tablet for Christmas. I just LOVE Barnes and NOble. they have been so good to me and I will always be a loyal customer :)

Oooh, I shall be following this thread with interest! Hubby is fed up of tripping over my piles of books everywhere (I'm a reader, he's not, he's tidy, I'm...er....not) so I told him to get me an e-reader for Christmas and that will solve the problem! :giggle I've been looking at the Kindle too.

i know some people have pretty strong opinions about why one is better than the other (nook vs kindle). i'm not super clear on what the reasons are, and would love to know. the one thing i will say about my kindle is that it was fantastic in the summer sitting outside with the kids. the screen had vertually no glare and i was able to read it in the sun with no problem. that was huge for me, as we spent many long hours at beaches and parks and whatnot.

i did have a moment the other day though that i wished for a tiny second i had a nook instead of a kindle. i was at Barnes & Noble getting paper books for my kiddos for Christmas. they have a yearly membership that costs $25 and then you get 10% off of everything you buy after that. So every book I DL'd would be 10% off. but oh well. i still love my kindle and i'm not giving it up any time soon. if i do, it will be for a kindle fire or a tablet that serves the same purpose but does more.

the BN membership never used to apply to Nook Books. Does it now?? I have had a membership up until a couple months ago and just haven't renewed because it didn't apply to nook books. :(

The reason I chose a nook over a kindle was primarily for in store support. I LOVE being able to go to the store if I have an issue or anything, though that hasn't happened yet. I have had zero issues with it at all but the thought is nice that I can do that if I need to!

I'm an iPad2 user and love it for books, videos, etc. I know its not totally classified as an eReader but does the job plus more.

i'm not super sure crystal... i guess i assumed it did because she said 'anything' i buy from b&n. i told her i did a lot of my reading on my kindle, and she didn't really expound any further. so idk for sure... i went ahead and got the membership anyway, though. i figured for books for my kids, and gifts throughout the year it will at least pay for itself. plus the $5 for ever $100 of kids books... i spent $150 in there for Christmas alone, so i should be getting a $5 gift certificate in the mail in the near future. :yesss
