To all of my crocheting friends out there - I am in need of solid-color, very simple crochet patterns for my mom. I haven't crocheted in ages and am out of the loop on what would be good for her.

Mom is quickly slipping into dementia, and crocheting helps her stay cognizant. I'd love for her to make something for Samaritan's Purse, one of her favorite charities. It has to be simple (no seams, etc.) because it might confuse her, so maybe a hat or scarf, or something along that line. I have a box of white "Red Heart" yarn that was given to me that I want to send to her, along with everything she'd need. So, anything that I could download and print to put in protective sleeves would be perfect.

Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a great idea. You can also check for simple patterns at Ravelry.com.

I am currently crocheting a ripple blanket from attic 24. She has loads of free, easy blanket patterns. Blankets are great as you crochet from muscle memory as much as anything, so don't be daunted by a larger project. Also no seams! The granny stripe blanket is super easy http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/granny-stripe-blanket.html. The pattern can be scaled down for baby blankets etc.

I find blanket making really soothing, it's great therapy :)

I hope you find the perfect project for your mum, she will love your gift! :)

That's a great idea, what a thoughtful and fun gift!

Another freebie site for patterns is http://crochetpatterncentral.com/directory.php and also all the yarn companies will have free patterns on their sites too like Red Heart, Lion Brand, etc.

I like making baby blankets...everyone who has a baby can use one (or ten) and they are such a neat, homemade gift. Also, they are smaller and quicker to make. It's just rows back and forth, no seams and the pattern can be super simple, the same stick the whole way:)

Good luck to you and her:)

Thanks, everyone! This is a big help. And I never thought about the dishcloths. That would be something she could do rather quickly, too. I'm going to spend some time today looking through everything, especially that list of charities. Hugs to you all!

That granny strip blanket is so cool! Have you made one? I may have to attempt one... that is after I finish the ripple blanket I've been working on for 2 years now :-/
