Have you ever dyed your hair? I've done it Auburn a few times, not lately though.
However, we let our 6 year old boy dye his red last week. It's really almost pink. My dad was not impressed :eyeroll. My mom thought it was funny. Our thoughts are it will grow out, and be cut off within a few weeks.

Do you dye your hair for fun or grey coverage? Or not at all?

I haven't, but my daughter got rainbow colors a couple of years ago. I wish it wasn't so expensive to have it done because she'd like to do it often, changing colors like we change our clothes. I have encouraged her to look into doing it herself. I agree with your thoughts about hair -- it's not a big deal and anyway, it's a great way to express oneself.

The first photo is a week or two after she had it done. The second photo is two months later. It was still somewhat visible 6 months later.

As for me, I'm a wash & wear sort of person - I don't even wear make-up - so I'm not interested in dying my hair. I kind of like the way the stripes of gray are appearing in my hair. They look especially cool when I have my hair up in a ponytail or bun.

If you look closely I have 4 or 5 white hairs - but you have to look closely. Red hair like mine doesn't go gray. I'm almost 50 and just have those few random white hairs. My dad, in his 70s, only has a little touch of white in his. I have always wanted gray hair - I think even as a little girl. Not gonna happen. I don't dye my hair. My younger daughter does and her reddish blonde roots when it grows out always look funny. As a teen she had pink and blue hair at different times. Recently she got a bright orange but has since toned it down to a dark red.

I do it for fun sometimes. I don't have any grey yet but I'm not really worried about going grey. Just part of life. DH wears his well :) My DD went purple and it faded to red. We may do again soon.

I do it for fun- I've had some gray hair since college (thank you, math minor), but they never really bothered me. A few years ago I decided I wanted to be more red/auburn than just brown, so I have it done every six weeks or so and change the shade a little every time. If I didn't work in a corporate/government environment, I'd do something a little wild like dyeing the bottom inch hot pink or putting one big chunky colored streak in it somewhere.

I'm not so great at keeping a schedule for colouring out the greys, so I usually have a few grey hairs here and there. I just never seem to have the time to get it done what with all the kids activities and working during the daytime.

I will say that's the advantage of a little boy! The hair is super short, and our barber told us to take him to Sally's to buy the product. She told us how, and finished with the comment that it'll grow out and it's easy to cut off. She even said "Much easier than girls!"

Yep! My mom has dyed her hair because of grey since I was young. I think in her late 20's? Maybe early 30's? It's now going white, but since she has a 3 year old still, she refuses to let it. So she dyes it a lot. My dad? Not a single grey or white hair. So far, I have his hair!

I'm thinking of dying mine purple. It seems like a lot of work though!

I'm doing mine tonight...the grey is a little much. Also doing my youngest daughter's - prom Saturday!! :)

I had mine dyed several years ago and then didn't do it again until recently. In January I had a touch of darker gray put in my hair along with three shades of purple highlights done here and there. I LOVED it! And for me that was a pretty bold and drastic thing to do. It's all pretty much gone now and I don't know if I'll ever do it again. But it was fun while it lasted. My wild side coming thru in my Grandma years. So, so fun!! I think I shocked my kids. :) :) :)

I dye mine every 4 weeks, any longer than that it makes me crazy. I think the hairdresser said I'm about 90% gray. I'll still continue to dye it my natural dark brown until it seems strange OR until I become allergic to the hair dye itself. I've already developed allergies to most hair products at this point. My youngest already has a bunch of gray hair, his started at around age 18ish.

I have died mine for so long. I started getting greys when I was about 18 years old. I'm getting tired of having to touch up about every 3 weeks. I'm seriously thinking about cutting it off real short (think Jamie Lee Curtis short) and letting it go white. I think I'm 100%, but the hairdresser said about 95%.

I have dyed my hair for a lot of my life. First husband wanted me to dye it black from its natural brownish with a touch of red. I did and while he liked it there is nothing quite as phony looking as dyed black. Then I had it frosted. Again the old style way with a shower cap and a metal crochet hook! Pain! then for the remaining years of that marriage, i kept it my own natural color till the gray started coming in as I turned 40. Back to coloring it - varying shades of warm brown.

After my divorce, I added a lot of red to it and didn't mind doing it every 3 weeks myself. I have very thick hair that grows quickly so it needed doing a lot. By the time I remarried at 56, I kept asking the hairdressers who cut it when would I ever go really gray or white. It took a long time and I still have some black/gray hairs amidst the white. I've been told I'll probably go to my grave with that mix. I miss my red but I don't miss worrying about those white roots which I really hate to see on women.

I dye my hair three or four times a year, pretty close to my normal colour, just to cover up my greys. I think this winter I will add a touch of red, haven't done that since my early 20's - should be fun.

My eldest son dyed his hair bleach blonde when he was 14 and again at 15. First one was fine, the second one didn't quite work and after the first swim of summer, always had a slight green tinge to it. He had to cut it off before school started anyway (no unnatural colours allowed at his school - pretty sure green did not count as natural..). He had fun with it.

Have recently stopped dying my hair, which I've done since my early 30s to cover grey. I love my new look - very short and I'm so pleased it's turned out to be a really edgy silver with a streak over one eye of a darker grey! My hairdressing bills are so much less these days!

I highlight my hair (it's naturally a dark brown) and then do fun stuff from time to time with reds and purples...this was my latest:

I'm not worried about grey, I actually think I will enjoy it since I like my hair light. But I am past 50 and have only had 3 or 4 grey hairs here and there. My daughter changes hair color about as often as she changes underwear lol. And both my boys have played with colors, too.

I've been coloring for years. Mostly stick to a few shades darker and lighter than my color and a tad redder. I come from a long line of redheads, but alas mine isn't so red. We have some beautiful gingers in our family, it just skipped me and only gave me the strawberry-ish. lol! I'm letting it grow out a little now, less money for coloring, and to see how light I should go for the summer. :) No grays yet, though I don't think that would bother me much.

I've been highlighting my hair for a long time. I'm a natural born blond, but when I had kids, my hair got darker and darker. Then I started going gray. The highlights kind of blend in with the gray, but not totally. Just enough to make me think I'm young again.

For years I was always naturally strawberry blonde and then it went to blonde. Now it is getting darker, but I've been lucky to have no grey yet. I have it lightened because Tim likes the whole blonde look. Before I started dating Tim, I went to a expensive salon because I won a gift certificate. They told me that they'd put something on that would bring me back to "natural" which ended up being a really pretty auburn that I loved, but I was always self-conscious because it seemed like people were always looking at me (I like to blend into the background). Right before we went to Paris for spring break, I had my ends colored sort of turquoise ("mermaid" the hairdresser called it). I'm a sucker for those color swatches they bring out, but it totally didn't last. And I've always wanted a pretty pink, but figure that it would never look as good as I'd picture it would. :giggle

My daughter has done hers black with shades of blue/turquoise, and dark brown with magentas and purples. She is constantly changing her color. She wanted to do the trendy grey, but hasn't had the nerve yet. She thinks that it will just make her look frumpy and old instead of chic. LOL. Plus, she's semi-dating this guy who already didn't like that the hairdresser cut her hair too short, so I think she's worried about his opinion now.

I used to dye it for fun, now it's to cover gray...grrrr. Anyway, in the winter I usually dye it black, in the summer I dye it auburn or bright red. I would love to get it professionally done someday. I want to do it black with fire engine red highlights.

I started dying mine for the gray about 6 months or so ago. My hair was looking really flat with the single strands of gray and the dark brown looked dull. Now it's shinier :) Gotta love curly hair ... do you see that one spring standing straight up?? I'll blame the wind)
