Okay...I'm seriously torn right now!! My FAVORITE place Lockett Meadow is in full force fall right now, our fall leaves come and go so quickly, that if you don't jump when they say how high you will miss them! We went a couple weekends in a row last year, the first weekend in October and then again the second weekend and the difference was night and day!! Do I fall with the family or stay and play at the Pad?!!? This is seriously a tough decision for me...it's my first DSD ever!! I would download kits and scrap on my phone, but the battery drains so quickly and it takes HOURS to charge in the car. I'm so torn!
That is a SUPER tough decision. The only thing I can offer is that your kids are only as old as they are now, today. Enjoy the fall with them, there will be more DSD's ahead when they're older and don't WANT to go to a place like that. Go, get LOTS of photos, and then come play when you get home! Just my 2 cents!
How far is this place? I would opt for.... Both.... can you squeeze in some time for both? Make the daytime for out with the fam... and the nevenings for scrapping, perusing, challenges and chats.
My 10 year old is already getting to that point...and let me tell you, she can be a real killjoy and makes it known she'd rather be somewhere else! The sullen face and pouting in the backseat...ugh It's 3 hours away, and the trail is about another hour to hike, so I'd be out of commission all day And here's the kicker...they limit the amount of people b/c it's such a popular place to get fall photos in AZ, so we could drive all the way up there and not even get in...that would surely put me in grumpy pants mode LOL
I will kiss Bart for you.... Go see the pretty fall leaves. If you go up there on Saturday, that still leaves Friday and Sunday for you to play DSD.
I never could catch a Bart kiss LOL! I'm almost wondering if Sunday would be better...might not be as crowded b/c people don't want to drive back to go to work on Monday??
I kind of agree with Serena. Mine are now 16 and 17 and they don't really care for this stuff anymore. They generally won't go to apple picking and things like that. So take it while you can! The great thing is DSD at The Pad lasts for many days ... so you should be able to find things to participate in on the days leading up to Saturday ... and for a few days after!
Don't forget, DSD is technically a weekend (and there are things going on for like 5 days), so it's not like you've got ONLY Sat. to enjoy the sale/forum fun. And as long as you're within satellite range, then you can check in every once in awhile. So go, be with your family, and then get home and scrap all the wonderful photos.
Real life if it's not a complete full day away for sure. Like DSD is fun and I'm kinda sad that I cannot spend the whole weekend online like previous years, but real life definitely gets priority this year for me. You don't need the full weekend for DSD anyway. My opinion.
I agree with Serena too. Family time is priceless while you have it. When they are teens they won't want to go.
You don't have to download your stuff right away. Take your phone and do a little shopping when you get a chance and just download when you get back. Like other's said DSD at TLP starts Friday and goes until Tuesday, so go have fun and then come back and download and join in the final days of fun!
I agree with the others. The fun will be going on all weekend and the kids are only little once. Enjoy the family time and do what you can with DSD when you can
What Serena wrote. Plus DSD is actually a 5 days thing, so you won't miss much. Take a look at the events schedule. I arranged to go to the gym (aka be by myself) on Saturday noon (my time), so I can attend a chat! And what is it with people trying to scrap on their phones? I can't even text on mine...
You can play games and fun here tomorrow and Monday.... take the weekend and go see the pretty leaves. We'll be here when you have time. As for sullen 10 year olds... I own the KING sullen 10 year old (sometimes) he's actually 11 now, but when I want him to be more excited for hikes and fall outside stuffs... I've given him an old GPS unit with the coordinates plugged in and told him to navigate for us. (or try your phone) Also, check if there are any geocaches in that area... that helps get both my kids engaged more. I guess they are goal oriented weirdos or something. Lol! Hope you get lots of lovely photos!
FALL!!! DSD is awesome fun- but remember- scrapping is to capture the memories - and you need to make those moments first! After you've had your awesome day- later that night get into some comfy cozies- pour a cuppa whatever and catch up on the forums and sales! you CAN have your cake and eat it too!
3 hours away means family time! You can play around your day away, since still will be going on until Tuesday!!! Get those beautiful photos and have fun! Make the memories so that you can come back and find a perfect kit to scrap those photos!
