Do you talk to animals? If so, do you keep it to your pets, or do you talk to random animals that aren't your pets?

I've been feeding the squirrels in our yard lately and totally thinking about Klaus and @AllisonPennington. I have a little bowl of food on the front porch and one squirrel who will come and eat. He used to run away, but he's kind of getting used to me. I came home the other day and was talking to him (in a soothing voice) and making squirrel noises to him when my daughter had to roll down her window to inform me that I was NOT a Disney princess. Well, that just sounds like a challenge to me. :giggle

Anyway, do you talk to neighbor's pets? Birds? Squirrels? Other not-so-cute creatures?

I talk to my dog and my sisters' dogs, but that's about it. Love that comment about not being a Disney princess (just watched Enchanted again and I love the scene where the rats and cockroaches come to the apartment to help clean it up)!

I talk to all animals. My pets, everyone's pets, wild animals... I'm sure they at least understand my intent.

Be a little careful of the squirrels and raccoons though. They can get a bit aggressive. We used to feed a squirrel on the back deck every day. When she ran up my 4 year old's arm and took a cookie out of his mouth I decided maybe it wasn't the best idea. No harm or damage was done - but it was a bit too close for comfort..

Another time a mom raccoon brought a baby onto our deck so we passed some Oreos ( i know not the best offering..) through the patio door. Then she left and left her baby behind. I was freaking out... Awhile later here she comes with four more babies for us to feed.

I also used to feed the fox that would come into our back yard. I kinda pictured it like a mini dancing with wolves... but my husband said - stop, you aren't Steve Irwin - and besides he got killed. - so now I just talk to them.

Maybe I can still be Dr. Dolittle..

I talk to animals, but it's more to soothe them than to, like, talk. I talk to my friend's Great Dane, mostly to apologize for my son screaming "MOLLY, MOLLY! I WANT TO PET YOU, MOLLY!" at her lol (thankfully Molly is used to kids so she doesn't freak out). Since we don't have pets, I don't get much of a chance to commune with them. ;)

I agree, that Disney princess comment is funny!

Yes, you ARE a Disney Princess! **giggle**

I definitely talk to my cat (and I also talk FOR my cat, giving her a special voice and responses LOL). I will also talk to other pets owned by friends and family. Not really to squirrels or other random animals.

oh pshaw, the power of photoshop can make you a princess! but that was a hilarious line!

we used to have chickens, I would go out and momma hen, she was my favorite, she would listen to me and cluck cluck and bop her head in agreement, in the most sweetest way!

Well, we don't have pets, but I occasionally yell at the neighbour's dog to stop barking in the middle of the night! I do talk to birds though and I found myself talking to a rather large snake the other day. I was walking down by the river and came across him sunning himself on the footpath. We regarded each other silently for some minutes and then I explained that he was in my way and that I didn't really want to step over him. He thought that quite reasonable and graciously, albeit slowly, moved off the path and into the bushes!

I talk to animals all the time - my two cats, other people's pets, deer in our yard, ducks and fish at the lake, birds, squirrels, rabbits, farm animals, etc. My husband says I'm only crazy if they start talking back to me! :giggle

My xh and I started doing this with our two cats when we were first married. Angie and BeeBer each had 'their' own voice and we had a lot of fun talking for them and of course to them. Years and another marriage later, our ancient Siamese finally crossed the rainbow bridge. Our house is very old (1910) with a lot of strange noises so when we hear one we'll sometimes say...What is it Sebastian? Is that you again?

Otherwise I just talk to the birds on the deck or the #@^% rascally squirrels.

You know, it's becoming quite apparent that you and I have a LOT in common! LOL

Thank you for recognizing my princess status. :giggle

My daughter talks as our dog, Bobby. He's a Boston Terrier, but she uses a British accent when she speaks as him that she's pretty good at doing. :) (When she was young, she could totally nail the Austin Powers voice. LOL. )

I just wrote an essay on this for Mysticism class :lmao
I talk to all animals! Sometimes I ask my cat to hand me the remote & I have to stop & think for a minute. :crazy3
I'd be the one being attacked by a wild animal & I'd be asking it about the roots of its hostile feelings. I talk to all living things, even trees. Just, not all the time. Then, I'd never stop talking.

I talk to our dog and the dogs in our neighborhood. Even the ones who bark thru the gates at me...Hey, sweet puppy! How are you today!...I try to treat them the way I wish people would treat our dog when she barks at them as they walk by. I talk to most of the critters around us. We have carpenter bees in some logs by our front door. I always talk to them. They are MY friends. And the guy who lives across the walkway from us has a couple of cute little dogs. The one named Who likes to come visit us. She will come and sit outside our screen door and look in at us and will come inside if I open it for her. So I'm always talking to her and the other dog...Angel...asking how the girls are today and that sort of thing. I know...a bit crazy. But I love it. It's very satisfying when you get out of your car or walk out your door and the neighbor's cats or dogs come running to you for a pet and then roll over for a belly rub. Or lean up against your leg and just purr away. I'll take it.

I talk to our dog, Mango, all of the time. And I tend to greet every dog we pass on the street with "hi puppy"... no matter how old the dog is. I'm trying to not say it so loud though (for the sake of my teens). :-)
