Downton Abbey

Ok so I'm finally looking at this thread - I didn't want to click it until I finished Season 3. Like Brynn I watched the whole thing online (back in November, I think) EXCEPT the last episode. I think in the UK it was called the Christmas Special. Anyway, I don't really know why I hadn't gotten around to seeing it, I just knew it was long and just kept thinking, "I'll get to it later." Plus I kind of liked where the last episode left off when they were all smiles and happy and playing cricket together. Once it aired here in the states I stared hearing the buzz and my sister actually spoiled it for me (she assumed I'd seen it.) So I finally sat down and watched it last night. Boo :( I'm angry/sad.
 
I finished Season 3 before it finished airing. It was kind of funny b/c my mom said "what happens to Matthew" and I said "nothing"... I had watched in the 1-9 episodes and I actually didn't realize there was a 9th episode. So I am like, what do you mean? he's fine...
She im'd me one day and said OMG you said he was fine... I'm like well, crap... so I went back and watched and sure enough.

I had heard a spoiler about Sybil's death so I was prepared there (thankfully)... and I was kinda glad, even though I put my poor mom through that, that she spoiled Matthew's death for me.

This season was rough for me... I think because I am pregnant, so it played on my fears of death caused by childbirth, then loss of my husband... you know? Of course I still loved it. I read about plans for season 4... they talked about it picking up 6 months after his death. It's almost a bit of cheating. You miss the initial grieving and the closure of saying goodbye to that character which was so close to our hearts. I also read there is a guy coming on who will play a love interest of hers. That may be a little too much, but we'll see. I think Matthew should have stayed on one more season, and maybe had a less tragic death like cancer or something so you know its coming.
 
I was very, very angry when they killed Sybil ...and couldn't believe they killed Matthew now...

I think the fact that the last series didn't live up to expectations is that there was no plans to stretch it so far, but they are having extremely good ratings so they keep it going...

I heard that PBS is going to air in the USA Mr Selfridge, which we are watching now in the UK...
If you like the British stuff, maybe you will like this series, is the real story about Selfridge, a department store we still have here in Oxford ST in London, first of its kind, created by an American: Mr Selfridge.
I am not a big fan of Jeremy Piven (he plays Mr Selfridge) I find it a bit over acted, but the series are interesting, with lots of historical facts like Anna Pavlova going to the store , Sir Arthur Connan Doyle and Amelia Earhart... plus the costumes, the whole thing about English society at the time, I love it....
Of course, this one was also planned for only one series, but the ratings are so high they are already going to film the second...
anyway, just thought I mention it... :)

I love a good period piece . . . but uch I hate Jeremy Piven.
 
I finally watched all the episodes online over the last week or so and I somehow avoided any spoilers so I didn't know what was coming in the finale. So sad! And I HATE waiting for the next season. Sigh. When is it going to start again?
 
I got to know abt the show when the S1 was having a marathon-run on the cable channel. I was attracted by the costume, the show's name, and everything old-English. And that was a few days right before S2 was due to air. And I'm glad that I caught it in time cos I was & am super hooked onto it. NOW.

There was like a 10-mths "break" over here (Singapore) between S2 & S3. S3 was aired in Feb 2013. And I wasn't exactly reading up on it (be it spoilers or not). But when I "liked" their fb page and started getting "updates". That was it. I'm stuck.

Still, I'm not actively reading up on it. Yet. Until someone posted in fb abt Sybill dying. THEN I started reading. I was shocked that she's not continuing in S3. Yeah. Cos I wasn't paying any attention. *roll eyes* I was more shocked that she died in childbirth. I was like "Huh??!! She ain't tat weak, rite?" THEN I went digging for more spoilers and found IT !!!! Now I'm trying to dig up on the what-when-how abt her not wanting to continue in the series.

THEN (again), when the recent fb-spoiler reported about Mary & Matthew. I fainted !!!! I was like "Why??!!!"

Right now, I'm left with S3's last two episodes. And it will airing tonite (Monday, 9pm). And it'll be a 2-hour finale special!!! Guess it'll be another 10-mths "break" before S4 will be aired here.

Lady Edith ... I was so shocked & happy that she's getting married to him. But again, the Dowager must be "whispering" too much into him that he had to ditch Edith. As for the editor ... hmmm ... if his wife's story is true, I wud be rooting for them to be a couple.

Hey! Did you ladies "hear" abt Ms O'Brien? :giggle *spoiler alert !!! *
