Donuts....

Call me boring, but I love plain old cinnamon doughnuts, none of that fancy schmancy glazed doughnuts here, I'm a simple girl :giggle
I do not find your choice boring at all.
There is a place called Robinette's in Grand Rapids, MI. They're an apple orchard and little market and they make their own apple cider (and now make wine but I digress). But the best is their fresh cinnamon donuts. I remember waiting in line to get mine and you'd see them come off the line, get covered in cinnamon sugar, and then they'd barely make it onto a platter before being swiped in a bag for an order. With a fresh cup of cider, nothing else made fall feel like Fall.
Anyway, my long point is that I get ya. When something is made well and with good ingredients, then "simple" is all you need!

@Juliestcyr We lived very close (walking distance) to a Jewish bakery in Houston. So while I didn't have any Pączki, I did have sufganiyot and hamantaschen and other great treats. Like, all the time. LOL.
OMG guys, this thread is killing me!

Sorry @Tree City for continuing on....
How hard is it to make them? You fry them? DH has a fryer.

Not hard at all! I totally justify mine, because it has mashed potatoes in the dough, so it must be healthy right? We make the dough, cut them in circles, then fry them in a pan. You could use a fryer, but since we hated cleaning ours, we got rid of it.

We have a gourmet doughnut shop here in town. They make up different flavors every day, using things like basil, ginger, etc. and chocolate of course. They are divine but cost $3 to $4 per doughnut.

Then there is Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' doughnuts, but the last doughnut I ate was a sour cream cake one from Kroger that the kid's got out of the clearance cart for 49 cents for 6 doughnuts.

I used to love glazed ones, then I gave up sugar for about a year. Although I eat sweets again, I still find it hard to eat doughnuts. They are just way too sweet. I can do cake ones in small amounts. I would rather have a sweet piece of fruit.

1. What kind is your favorite?
That really depends on my mood, but I am almost always interested in a chocolate glazed old fashioned!

2. Do you like fillings?
Yes, the custard one or most of the fruity ones, especially if they are not too sweet...

3. Donut Holes - yum or nope, give me the whole darn donut... or another option?
YUM... They make some at my shop that are filled with the custard! YES PLEASE!!

4. How to you eat them? Break them apart, bite in and go around, bite and eat the ends? Something else?
For my old fashioned, I break them a lot. I take off the "wings" and eat those, until I'm left with just the inner circle and then I eat that too!!

5. Where do you buy your donuts?
I get them at Moodoo Donuts, which is down the street from my house. My other favorite is Zombee donuts, where they donuts are decorated super cutely as zombies...

Funny donut story... Yesterday, my daughter brought donuts over and let my 4 year old son who has autism choose one. He picked a filled one, and was eating it around the edges in his style. But, when he got to the filling, he said, "OH YUCKY" and tried to give it away/back... It was so cute, especially since he is a kiddle of so few words, that he said it so clearly and so loudly (for him)!!

Huggles!!

You have no idea how much my mouth is watering right now - you have totally hit my "sweet" spot with this silly thread lol. I cannot resist donuts, and shape or size, plain or all decked out with frosting, glaze or sprinkles - ah, I love them ALL.

Now I have to defend a bit here, we don't get them often and ironically, rarely do we get them for breakfast. I'm a yogurt and fruit kinda gal in the morning mostly, and eat pretty healthy for the most part. But donuts just cannot be resisted.

See this thread made me buy this... And when I was considering it, my daughter peeked over my shoulder and said "ooooo doughnuts and sprinkles..."
