I ate one for breakfast. It's not my norm, so it got me thinking....

1. What kind is your favorite?
2. Do you like fillings?
3. Donut Holes - yum or nope, give me the whole darn donut... or another option?
4. How to you eat them? Break them apart, bite in and go around, bite and eat the ends? Something else?
5. Where do you buy your donuts?

If you can't eat donuts, is there something similar that you make or buy? A yummy out of the norm breakfast ( or anytime) indulgence?

oh... you might spell them doughnuts? lol... whatever you may call them or however you spell them!

Yes, please?
I love doughnuts. Chocolate iced are my faves, but right now any will do. I am more partial to the round ones than the long ones and avoid the cream filled ones entirely. Jam filled from Germany - those are the absolute best.
Bite in and go round. Doughnut holes are just as good, yes. Anywhere, our Woolworths is the easiest but Expresso shops have popped up and offer everything for R10 (about 1$) and I haven't tried theirs yet, but their apple Danishes are amazing!

LOVE 'EM!!! The ones with chocolate or glaze on top with sprinkles are my favorite.

No fillings

Glazed donut holes are great. Back when we'd bring a bday treat to school for the kids, I'd swing by the donut shop and pick up a big bag of holes. Even now, if I'm at a speech tournament or something and walk by a donut shop, I'll pick up a bag of holes for the kids. They always get so excited and they are pretty cheap.

No eating strategy other than shove it into my mouth!!

We'll get Krispy Kreme but I'm not in love them. My favorites are the little donut shops in strip malls ...

Ha - doughnuts! : giggle

I usually pull apart, but today I bit and then went in the circle so the middle was left. It was a chocolate covered from Entemann's (a partial local baker that turned New England spreading to national, though I don't know how far their reach is).

My go to is Dunkin' Donuts... but we just got a Tim Hortons, so I said I would give them a try! Grocery store donuts are really yummy too!

Side note... we don't have Woolworth's anymore. I loved them when I was a kid. In my mind, they were like the Target of today!

LOVED Woolworth's!! When I was a kid we had K-Mart and Fred Meyer which was more like Target, to me. BUT I LOVED shopping there and getting food at the counter!! I miss it!!!

We have Entemann's in CA. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of packaged donuts. Every now and again I'll eat the little Entemann ones or the Hostess ones (powdered sugar or chocolate). My favorite Entemann's though is their banana cake. I can eat a whole cake in one sitting. It's so good. But I can never find it. I wonder if they discontinued it?

dang it @jk703, Jenn, now I'm strategizing how I can swing by a donut shop on my way to teach later this morning ...

Yum! I love donuts! They don't necessarily love me though! They don't agree with my stomach - but when I do have one I like chocolate frosting with white filling ... I also like the small bags of white powdered sugar donuts that you can buy @ the grocery store. I could eat the whole thing in one sitting if I tried! :) So in a way, the fact that I don't feel good after I eat them is a blessing in disguise!!

You are BAD!!! I do not need to think of this but....will gladly bwahaha My favorite? Boston Creme donuts and I mean the custard filling not any fluff or icing filling. But I only eat those when they're provided somewhere. What I will buy occasionally when I go for groceries is a cronut. "Cronut is a croissant-doughnut pastry" that is deep fried. omg The grocery store ones are like layers of a Krispy Kreme which I'm glad is nowhere near me. But KKs? only when hot, just fried.

LOVE donuts... but rarely have them. I'm like Maureen (@cookingmylife) and love a good Boston Cream. Our one day a year to go crazy with the "donuts" is Paczki Day... I usually get a cream filled one and a lemon filled (not eaten at the same time!!). I love a good ol' old fashioned donut too.

Clara loves donuts as well and chose to have a stack of donuts rather than cake for both her birthday party and her graduation party. We always get them from Stan's. It's right by Trader Joe's so I have to muster up some extra willpower when I make my Trader Joe's run. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose (but I still sort of win even if I "lose" :giggle).

Yummy!!! Drooling!!! Bad girl!! Now craving!!
There is a local bakery in town that does fresh ones every day and they do a long shaped one ( like a long john ) but there is no frosting on top and the filling is not custard but something between custard/frosting type of filling...... and they are sooooo good! I always cut mine in half telling myself I will only eat a half, yah right, always go back for my other half!

I love donuts. I've made LOs about my family's fave, which are made/sold at a farmer's market. The market is open Fri-Sun, but Dutch Country donuts only sell on Fri/Sat; so we'll go on a Sat. morning, grab a dozen for like $13 (worth it. SOOOO worth it), each eat one right there, and then just walk around the market. Then we go home and take bets on how long the other 8 donuts will last. :) I admit that high on my list of "Things To Do When Both Kids are in School Full-time" is to go to the market after the kids get on the bus. I want to eat a donut in peace, without sharing rotfl, and then shop at the stalls. Anyway, here's a page I made recently:

Having said all that, I actually had a donut for breakfast. DH went grocery shopping last night and I asked him to pick up a dozen. Our grocery store sells a dozen for half off after 6pm. Sometimes there are a great assortment and othertimes... not so much. Last night was in between. From most bakeries, including the Safeway here (which does a decent job IMO), I only like cake donuts (as opposed to yeast) and I like chocolate frosting (or icing, if that's what you call it). With the Amish donuts, I'll eat whatever they make. They're fantastic.
I eat a donut by picking it up and then stuffing my face like I've never seen food before. Isn't that how you're supposed to eat sinful food??? *giggle* Actually, I also like to break apart my donut, take tiny bites, and wash it down with a bit of milk. The ratio of donut-to-milk is quite specific. Donut holes are fun! When we're in MI, we always pick up some Timbits. Thank goodness a place opened up kinda close to my parents' house! :)

I like a good plain old fashioned donut. I break off the sides & eat around the circle. In my city, the big place is Rolling Pin Donuts. It's been around forever & often makes "The Best Donuts" list. Sometimes to me they're too sweet. But, I have nothing bad to say about their custard filled donut holes. Seriously, so good! We also have Krispy Kreme. I always have to try their seasonal donuts. I like the glazed, but not the cream filled chocolate one they're known for. My kids always want the pink one with sprinkles like Homer Simpson's. Actually I'm excited for our Universal Studios trip. Apparently they have a giant Homer Simson donut that's more like the size of a cake. We'll definitely have to get one.

**Now that I see this layout, I realize I forgot to mention sour cream donuts (bottom left). I really like those, but not every place has them. **

You had me at doughnuts!!! :wub Love them!! We get them often, and our favorite ones are from local bakeries. There is a square glazed one and a maple bar one that I love. And a samoa doughnut from another shop. But fresh KK are a favorite too.

great.... now i wanna donut! hehe

no really... i wanna donut! i love krispy kreme donuts! their glazed ones are the best. i like em hot right off the line! i also like the blueberry cake donuts. i can go for donut holes too. love the cake and glazed ones at wal-mart. i eat the as a whole bit. if i have milk, i'll dunk my donut.

now i'm gonna have to drive by krispy kreme and see if the light is on to get my donut fix! thanks for the enable Jenn!

I'm a longtime fan of doughnuts. I remember in early college, loving my new freedom and income (having gotten a job just before my freshman year began) there was a cinnamon crumb one I used to enjoy frequently. Nowadays I less interested in them but have them occasionally. I don't think I have a favorite kind; they're all good! Nor do I have a method for eating them, though I think I go slowly, savoring them. I buy them most often from the bakery at Wegmans, but we've gone to Krispy Kreme a few times.

Not a huge fan. If I had to choose I would pick a blueberry cake doughnut. The only doughnuts I really like are the cake kind.

But if you have an Apple Fritter I am all over that!
