Now, I'll preface this by saying almost all of my scrapping is done with TLP products (mainly cause I do challenges) but I have a tonne of stuff that in most cases hasn't been used. Part of me thinks since I bought it I should use it but part of me is thinking if I haven't touched it, why keep it. What would you do? I'm especially mindful of the fact theres a high chance my next laptop (whenever that will be) will not have a huge HDD/SSD

I say go back ans use the old stuff.. it will be like you bought something new. You can always post the pages too on your new instagram for your scrapbooking, even if you are not posting it here at the pad. I am having fun lately rediscovering old goodies.

Thanks. I am thinking I might tag it for now and see what I use and look at it again around my birthday - basically see what I use over the next six months or so

I have an external drive with a folder for older kits. I don’t typically keep it attached, but they are there if I think of something which I did for one of the MOC challenges this year. Mostly I have plenty of newer stash on my main drive. I have a 500 GB SSD on my laptop. I make sure to transition my completed layouts to the EHD periodically as well to free up space.

This!

I have a spreadsheet of all my kits. A master list and 2 sheets for the 2 stores I buy from the most. I have a column for "used" and enter yes when I do use it. I actually took time and looked through my other spreadsheet that I record the items used to see if I had used the older TLP (and SO for some of the designers) kits, then marked them if I did. I then set up some conditional formatting and filter the list so that only those unused kits show. Since I don't post layouts, I go to that spreadsheet when doing layouts to see if there is something that I can use on the page I'm working on.

I have used so many of those kits! My unused list grows smaller each time I scrap. Some layouts do use kits I've used before because of subject matter (Christmas is one, kayaking is another) but I'm consciously trying to not do that. Yes, it took some work to set this up to use but it has been so worth the time I took to do it.

I agree with Christa... it is fun rediscovering the old goodies!

I very rarely will delete old stuff. You never know when you might need it. You could use an external hard drive and move your whole stash onto that for safe keeping and then only keep newer stuff that you're wanting to use on your new laptop. That was you could go back to the older stuff if you want to and you won't clutter up your new laptop.

I personally keep all of my files on external drives because they I can move between my two computers easily, but I know that's not as easy to do with a laptop. It's not fun having a ton of cords hanging of the edges when you just want to be portable.

I don't know how much fun ACDSee would have with that set up but thats an idea at least temporarily while I saved up to get a bigger SSD

That is what I do with my laptop . I don’t store files on my laptop only EHD for both photos and kits

Many years ago I tried ACDSee with a desktop and laptop. It didn't work at all for how I scrapped. At that time I kept everything on an EHD because I was going to lots of day crops or retreats and needed to be portable but yet still scrapped at home on my desktop. That's when I found Picasa (hated that Google dropped it) and once it built the database on each machine, it kept it only adding new stuff the next time I opened the program. I don't think ACDSee did that which is why I didn't like it. When I found out Picasa was being discontinued, I made sure I had multiple copies of the exe file that I could install on any new computers I got.

Since you are using photoshop cc now do you even need a ACDSee? Bridge would work.. file>bridge

I never kept anything on my laptop either. These days I do keep everything on the desktop but anytime I buy something new and unzip it, it is copied to my "Digi Scrapping To Go" EHD as are completed layouts and copies of all my digi scrapping spreadsheets. So if I were to take the laptop to scrap, I would still have everything I need.

Never considered that as an option. Bit worried I'd lose all my tagging though by changing

In windows file explorer, right click on one of your digi scrapping items, then click on properties. Click on the details tab and see what shows under tags.

From my limited experience with tags, whatever is there will show up in multiple programs. I've started tagging previews in Bridge and when I do a search in Picasa, the tags show up. I have also noticed in Bridge that in the keyword panel, at times there are italicized words in the list that are not a part of my keyword list. Those are tags that were put there by the designers.

They are there luckily plus some extras, not sure I'm sold on Bridge because I haven't figured out a way to have my big long list of key words in one place yet. I do like the fact the previews are bigger than ACDSee though so I might perservere

I know I am in the minority but I do delete kits and products I've bought.
I wish I could donate it or give it to a newbie scrapper like I do with things in my house when I no longer need or want it but we don't have that option so I do delete things.

If I know I will never use the product again, like for example it's a designer that isn't my style anymore then I have no issues just deleting the products.

You can export your keyword file to a text file from Bridge. After my computer issues in October, when I finally got my Windows profile back, I had lost all my keywords. I found the text file and was able to import it. Now if I add something to my keywords list, I export the file in case of another crash. And, by it being a text file, you can edit it if you want before importing into Bridge.

Can you export your keywords (or tags) from ACDSee in a list format as a text file? Then it could be imported into Bridge.

My digi stash (413 Gb) dates back to 2007 and includes product from about 10 stores (many of which, sadly, no longer exist). I rarely delete. I have just gotten bigger hard drives a few times to keep up. Anyway, it's not my digi stash that takes up the most of my storage space, it's photos. My pictures folder is 2.76 Tb, yes terabytes.

A while back, when storage was a bit of an issue, I went through my pictures folders and deleted all the RAW files from my DSLR (after making sure I had JPG copies of all of them) and also checked all my scrapbook folders and deleted any PSD files. RAW files and PSDs take up a lot more space than digiscrap stuff.
