I've heard to use one, the ones that cost b/w $10-20 (to protect the lens) and heard NOT to use one, b/c it takes away the actual purpose & photo quality of the lens's use. What do you think? I've taken mine off.
always have them on my lenses..and never use a lens cap! lol. i have seen no decrease in quality of photos.
I didn't used to, but I was at my sister's house a couple of weeks ago and she actually set her camera down a bit harder than expected and when she pulled it out, it looked like her lens was completely cracked, it ended up just being the filter....which protected her lens from breaking. I promptly came home and ordered them for my own lenses.
I've been planning on getting one for each lens and using them. I'll probably pick them up along with an extra camera battery this Christmas. I worry that I am not as careful with my camera/lens as I should be, and this seems like as easy way to be safe.
I have one, but it's on my kit lens. I need to get a 2nd that will fit my 50mm since that's what I use most often.
I do have one on each lens. I know that (some) professional photographers dislike them (they say it's just extra glass and a hood does the same function...), but I feel better having one. I take it off to take pictures of lights though, otherwise I get ghost images.
I am such an average photographer, that having a lens cap makes no difference at all to my photos. And it has saved my expensive lens twice now (apparently, I'm also a clumsy photographer). So yes, I keep a clear filter on my camera at all times.
No..I don't use filters. My cap is always on when I'm not using my camera and I do use a lens hood, but I can totally see a difference in my images with a filter on vs off
I always keep the clear filter on my 28-135mm lens, but none on my 50mm. Not really a reason except we bought the 28-135mm used and it came with a filter, LOL.
Thanks, Cristina, for saying that, because I was taking pictures of the boys in front of the tree and couldn't figure out why I was getting these little reflections on them. Played yesterday and it was completely the lights reflecting back....urggh!!
I've always had one on mine to protect it. I like the tip about taking it off for pictures of lights though, thanks!
I don't... but I can see the quality difference with the filter on vs. not on. I use a hood and always have my lens cap on... the only time I'd consider a filter is on a windy day at the beach or something like that where the hood won't protect from the sand and such.
After getting some pretty decent scratches in my last lens, I doubt I'll ever go filter-free again. LOL
I have one for my kit lens but not for my 50 or for my zoom lens. I try to be really careful about making sure the lens cap is on when I'm not using the camera though. I've considered taking the filter off because I've heard it can affect the photo quality. Guess I should do some comparison shots to see if I really can tell a difference.
That's what I've been thinking too since this thread was started (but haven't gotten round to it)! Do share your findings if you do!
