I used to keep a list as a paper scrapper so I would know what I had done, but when I went digital in 2009 I just went total freeform.
I don't scrap chronologically because I have way too many photos of my older children when they were young and that not digital until I scan them. I'm also terrible at keeping track of what I've scrapped and what I haven't. A couple of years ago, I started sorting through my layouts and putting them in chronological order according to the photo/s I used. My ADD and hatred of repetitive tasks got to me really quickly and I quit. I need to work on that again soon!
I have a spreadsheet with a tab for each year, with columns for Printed in phonebook? If so, book title. Number for the year. I keep track of the number of layouts I scrap Digital or paper Title The year or years the layout relates to The day I made the layout Number of photos. I average 189.84 layouts per year with an average of 5.27 photos per layout. Yes, I'm strange. I'm a former accountant. I need count things. But it's been very useful because I've started using Shutterfly to print my layouts by the year to which they relate, so I can just sort the spreadsheet by year and find all the layouts related to that year. Since I title the layout on the spreadsheet the way I title it on my layout, I can very quickly put together a book from past years. Now I'm prepping 2016 to print. I just need covers and have a couple months that are light on layouts and I can go fill in with activities during that time.
All random all the time based on my mood or kits. I do have a good idea in my head what photos I’ve already used. Nothing chronological at all.
I'm probably way too organized for my own good but I fully admit it! My photos are kept in daily folders- 2025, 2025_01 (for a monthly page of photos that don't need a full page, 2025_01_01 then multiple folders for the day if more than one event occurred (2025_01_01_ karate; 2025_01_01_ NY breakfast). Then when I scrap those photos, I add my layout to the folder labeled as folder so when I'm browsing my photos if a layout is shown, I know I've done those photos already. I also keep all of my scrapped pages in a folders by years.
Minus the color coding ...this is where I'm at. And now that my kids are young adults I don't even care to go back and fill in anything I've missed.
