As I review a couple of items on my bucket list, one of them is to get my bathroom painted — finally. I actually had the bathroom remodeled coming up on 4 years ago, but figured the painting was something I could do myself. Well, it still isn’t done. Although, I did buy the paint last year. The time is approaching to get this done, I’m tired of looking at patchy plastered drywall.

Do you ever tackle little (or big) projects around your home?
What was the last one you accomplished?
Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring?
Got a before/after to share?

I do — mostly painting, and minor fixes/installs. I also installed a new smart thermostat and a reverse osmosis under my sink (the plumbing was already there). I repaired a leak in my sprinkler system; I have to put my patience on, but I’m pretty good at assembling “boxed” furniture.
What was the last one you accomplished? I think the last project was a minor sprinkler repair, but probably my laundry room, new washer/dryer and a new paint.
Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring? Definitely the bathroom paint, refreshing the towel hardware.
Got a before/after to share? I’m sure I’ll capture a snapshot or two of my bathroom, but here’s my before/after of my laundry space.

A page I did with the laundry makeover:

Good luck with your bathroom Lisa! I have soooo many spots in my house that need to be painted lol

Do you ever tackle little (or big) projects around your home?
On rare occasions when I'm feeling highly motivated lol

What was the last one you accomplished?
Painting one wall white

Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring?
I want to paint the rest of the entry white. The one white wall still reflects the yellow off the opposite wall so I think they all need to be white. Ideally every wall in my house would be white but that will take longer than my lifetime at the rate I'm going lol

Got a before/after to share?
Too lazy to upload photos at the moment

It’s kind of like cooking for me, I don’t mind the painting (cooking) but I hate the cleanup part so it delays the start.

Yep, whenever I have the time...usually in the summer

What was the last one you accomplished?
Rebuilding the stairs to our front porch

Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring?
I need to do some painting and some flooring in my office. I might rip up the carpet upstairs and work on that floor if I'm feeling ambitious.

Got a before/after to share?
I wish I had thought to take some lol

This is a post i could write a huge reply to, at risk of boring everyone.

DH loves a project and our house has been continually changing since Covid lockdown inspired the 'rip up all the carpet and replace it with floating (timber laminate) floors' project. So that was 4 bedrooms plus 2 loungeroom areas over the space of a few weeks but it made a huge difference to allergies and the feel of the house (the rest of the house is the same tile as has been here since the house was built in the 90's), and i guess it started to snowball from there. We love Ikea Hacks and I've got a before/after post here in the forum somewhere from our kitchen and laundry reno. He's also hacked their kitchen line in the home office and into a tv /entertainment wall unit (that was inpisred by replacing the old aircon and was intended to keep our birds off the aircon we replaced at the time, not that it seems to have done that ) - i have a page about adding lighting to it as the finishing touch here

The most recent/current project is our main bedroom. After the (paid professionals) ensuite reno mid last year (it was only us painting the ceiling for this one, because they tiled to the ceiling - there was a lot more painting in the main bathroom the same company did a few years back), and continuous decluttering, we need to figure out storage better and need to add reverse cycle aircon because summer nights are not getting any better but last winter was also bad. So we're in the beginning stages of that. The bedroom did have a deep blue feature wall and blue art & bedding etc until about a fortnight ago. It's now the same warm white as the rest of the house with palm tree/white green bedding (haven't made any art yet).

With that, we changed out the timber/wood venetian blinds in our room and then in one of the lounge rooms (it's not quite visible in the tv unit layout but it has 3 windows like a bay window) for dual roller blinds (there's a sheer blind and a block out one in front), but the windows weren't exactly standard sizes so there was angle grinding of window frames and 3D printing of extra pad out bits so they'd fit the frame better. The timber ones in the lounge were looking ratty because of Steve (one of the birds) who likes to climb them like a ladder and chew on them. Several of our reno projects have been due to bird damage, i mean, normal bird inquisitiveness and behaviour.

sounds like you tackle some bigger ones. Hope you get to them and they go smoothly!

The flooring sounds wonderful! So many things to do, and one you start, you just want to do more.

so true - we had the front porch re-tiled about 2 years ago but it makes the old wood front door with a side panel look shabby (it's delaminating, it's not a 'just paint it and it'll be fine' door; but finding someone to replace that (because the hardware store won't order anything without a carpenters measurements on a quote) is so much harder than you'd believe. We finally got someone to measure it and he said he'd send me a quote etc and never did, despite me following up a few times. At least 'DIY-ing' doesn't rely on other people's schedules or just courtesy let alone professionalism

so much easier to search the forum than my photos!
this old post has before and afters from our main bathroom (professional reno that a few months later we then had leaking shower problems with that leading to reno'ing DS's wardrobe and the linen cupboard that the bathroom had leaked into) and then kitchen and laundry in the post 2 or 3 below that first one

I hate when they won't return calls, or even simply say, not interested, or too busy to take this on.

Do you ever tackle little (or big) projects around your home? OH yeah! I love DIY projects! My hubby and I are both handy, so we try to fix things ourselves whenever possible. He really stinks at painting though (I think on purpose), so any painting projects are on me. I've recently done both of our bathrooms and my craft room. I love how it freshens everything up! I also love woodworking. I have my own table saw, miter saw, pocket hole jig and router now. Having all those tools at my disposal really helps when I dream up a new project!

What was the last one you accomplished? The last one was installing new can lights in our boys' bathroom. It's always been dark in there, but I can't believe what a huge difference that made!

Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring? I really want to refinish my kitchen table. It's had years of abuse (decades really), but I love the size and shape. I just can't decide if I want to sand it down and just varnish it or if I want to try painting it. Once I decide, the sander comes out! :giggle

Got a before/after to share? Here are a couple of my own fun wood working projects:

Not sure how you find the time for these projects! But I love it! You are soooooo talented. I'll be curious what you decide on the table, I've got one myself that I can't even think of getting rid of because it is solid wood, but has decades of abuse. It's a wider, shorter table which I kind of like. Those shelves are awesome -- maybe I need a router!

Not around the home, but definitely around the garden.

What was the last one you accomplished?
Last summer we replaced old bark with new lawn and it looks amazing. We also did one side of our terraced flower beds - the weeds from the park behind our house overtake the perennials every few years (that took 5 weeks from start to finish since we could only work at it on the weekends).

The other side of our terraced flower bed.

Yes! It's a super fun tool and also a little scary at how fast that bit rotates without any guard around it. :giggle I always check all my surroundings for things I might hit and make sure the cord is out of the way. Lol. I watched a LOT of YouTube videos and how to use mine before I turned it on the first time. Now I'm constantly looking for reasons to use it, so I can justify having bought another power tool. Ha ha ha!

I'm definitely a DIYer. I'll do plumbing, wiring, a smidge of drywall repair, painting, sprinkler system repairs, and anything else that doesn't require too much specialized knowledge or tools. I don't do (real) tile (although I've done vinyl), anything that requires welding or things that require a really high ladder (I have 14" ceilings in parts of my house - no thanks to painting up there!).

I think my next project is replacing/upgrading the vent fans in our bathrooms. I hear those can catch on fire and ours are pretty old.

That's a lot of work and it looks amazing!

I have grass in my backyard, but it never really looks good (of course, Arizona, it struggles) -- it was here and now I do like having it because I can play in with my grandson.

I'm really glad my house only has 9 ft ceilings, we have those peaks when I lived up in Phx area and I couldn't reach the smoke detectors when their batteries died, I ripped a couple out of the ceiling -- it always happens in the middle of the night.

I've done minor drywall patching, but not replacing any pieces, just as prep for painting mostly. I'm with you on trying to do the more minor things I'm capable of. And I'm always a bit cautious if something is a bit on the heavy side, I'll enlist my daughter occasionally, but when it came to ceiling fans, I just can heft those up over my head anymore -- so I had to get a handyman for that -- bummer.

Same about the ceiling fans! I did one years ago and will never do one again. One of the few things it's well worth hiring someone for!

We rent out home so aren't allowed to make major changes to the house, I wish we could as would love a new kitchen and bathroom.

What was the last one you accomplished?
My husband spent a month before Christmas and gave every room in the house a fresh coat of paint.

Anything on the horizon for kicking off in spring?
I would love to just get the finishing touches completed in the rooms, put up artwork, family photos, new cushions, bedding etc.
