Digital Project Life is LIVE!!

yes I think after looking at these that paper might be easier...*sigh* I just can't afford the paper :(

Me too - I´m saving every single buck like crazy to get some stuff together AND let it shipped from the states. This will be my christmas present.

I've been doing PL this year and I'll also stick with the paper version for 2012. I do plan on buying the 3x4 digital journal cards though. I explained in more detail in this thread here.

One of the MAIN reasons that I love the physical Project Life album is I love tucking in my memorabilia into the physical pockets in the protectors. I see that there are digital products that make it look like a page protector. But my question is... if you're doing it digitally, why would you simulate the page protector part? You can't take things in and out of the pockets digitally. You can't fold a piece of receipt and tuck it into the digital page protector and take it out to look at it. What is the page protector for then? I would think for something like digital Project Life, all it does is obscure your photos and journaling? Just my opinion, please don't get mad. There could be a bunch of reasons that people use the digital page protectors that I didn't think of.

Good question!

I can’t speak for everyone but I just like the look of them. It’s a cool design element. I personally don’t find them opaque enough to obscure anything. And when you think about it, every single thing we put on our digi pages - from buttons and flowers to the elaborate shadowing - is all a simulation of a paper trend . . . so why not these? :giggle

Many things people do in digi that I don’t understand. Like the trend of the tiny photos - Why make a photo 2 inches big on your layout when the viewer could appreciate it better at full 4x6 size? It’s just something people do because they like the aesthetic of it and I think the digital page protectors fall into a similar category of personal artistic preference :)

I’ve scanned in memorabilia for digital layouts many times in the past, and sometimes discard the original depending on what it is. I guess I’m not one that needs to hold it in my hands. Just the image and the memory is enough for me. I also like the idea that scanning in the memorabilia means it can be backed up and copies made (in case something bad should happen to the original)

And as a disclaimer - I don't have kids. I can see how hanging on to the daily "stuff" of life would be much more important to a mother so maybe that affects my opinion too . . .

Hope that answers the question a little?

Thanks for piping in Michelle! Yes, as digi scrappers we simulate a lot of paper pages, so I do understand using it on a few pages. I just think if you're actually doing Project Life, or printing out a whole year in a book, it just looks better and less weird without the digital page protector. I would use the digital page protectors as a design element on a one-off page, for sure. But a whole year's worth, not my thing. Again, just my opinion.

I don't have kids either and I love being able to put my memorabilia into my page protectors. I actually have an awesome document scanner and have digitized most of my important documents. I just find it easier to just journal, put my memorabilia in, and I'm done. Don't have to turn on the computer, scan, and all that. And with big huge items like a 18"x12" map that you get when you visit the San Diego Zoo, I love that I can just tri-fold it and put that into the page protector as well. You can't "fold" digital things and have it readily available to "unfold".

Don't get me wrong, I love digital scrapbooking and would NEVER give that up! I just find the physical Project Life products fits with my goals of having the album better.

I am thinking the physical kit would be easier too and since I am so bad at keeping up with these kind of things for more than a month or two, I am all about easy and manageable.

I am excited about the digital project life. I tried the paper version this year but it just didn't work for me. My whole problem is getting my pictures printed out. I have experienced the prints of the professional labs and to be honest I can't go back to just printing it out on my printer. It's not the same for me. I know it's the memory that is important but photography is my other passion and for me I want my prints to look the very best they can and my printer just ain't gonna cut it LOL.

I can do digital and still add in memorabilia just like everyone else. I am not sure why it would have to be one or the other. People do hybrid every day. I plan to add in pocket pages throughout mine to add my little trinkets and treasures I want to save. I just like the ease of digital because it's not taking up a boat load of space on my desk and I am already working my pictures on my computer and it's so much easier just to fill them in with journaling as I go than waiting for a weeks worth of pictures to come back from the lab and then playing catch up. I'm glad there is the option of both formats because that opens it up for more people like myself to enjoy the awesome project.

I am going to be doing the format of the original project life. I saw one of the example layouts set up like this on Becky's blog post about it.

I can see doing this hybrid for sure. My main point is I need the page protectors and the album.

Sorry Christine - I took your question wrong! I thought you were questioning the page protectors in general but I see now what you meant about using it for the whole book. I hadn't even thought of it way! But now that I've thought about it I think I if I go digi I would use them on every page because I like my printed albums to be matchy matchy that way.

And for the record, I was thinking of going the Shutterfly route for this, I wouldn't be printing my digi page-protector layouts and putting them in real page protectors. :giggle That would just be silly LOL!

I'm glad this conversation is going on because I'm having a bit of an existential crisis trying to pick what format to do. I keep going back and forth . . . This morning I decided paper/hybrid and now I'm back to digital/shutterfly.
:dizzy

I am having a crisis with this too. I thought I'd want to do the digital, but then all of you paper ladies have me questioning that. I am totally not one to constantly get pictures printed, so I thought digi would be easier, but then I don't know. Ugh. I just don't want to spend the $ on the paper version and then not do it. LOL. I'm so bad at follow-through. ;) You ladies that keep up all year are totally amazing to me.

Maybe I'll start with digi and see how it goes? Ugh. I'm so not a decider.

I am all for doing all of my scrapbooks digi...but I'm really looking forward to using the paper version of Project Life to enhance my p365 this next year!

Been going round and round in circles with this all day :). I think I've decided I'm going to do a digital book, following the style of the divided page protectors - but not limited to only those arrangements. Don't think I'm actually going to buy any 'official' products. I've got SO many kits and paper packs already it seems silly and I've been ogling Marcy Penners PL (she uses divided page protectors with her own stash) and I love the flexibility of it.

I've been making taking photos and keeping a journal on Oh Life since the summer so I think I'll work forwards and backwards at the same time - back to the point where I haven't got enough details and then I'll do something else before then.

I don't think it has to be one or the other, honestly. I have all digi pages next to my PL page protectors. I have digi elements printed and in my pockets. I have all paper pages too. You really can make it whatever you want it to be.

This! I will be doing the paper version next year as well :) I've really enjoyed it this year (just for this though, like Emily, I am fine with all of my scrapbooks being digi)!

Yes, totally! Whatever works for you so that you do it is whatever works. The important things are the photos + stories.

since i have already bought a box of page protectors, i'm thinking i'm going old school on it this year. i think i'll (maybe, hopefully) keep up with it better that way.

Just seen on the Jessica Sprague forums that there are more digi PL products awaiting release and even more planned, including templates. Hoping that they'll have all the stuff out before the beginning of January!

This is me too. I am hoping that having the binder sitting around will motivate me to get it done. :)

Just wanted to point to this site where she is offering a free template she made to mimic the look of the original Project Life. I am going to using this one and a digital set of the project life next year. I tried the physical kit this year but I could not keep up to date on my photo printing. If there was a way to cross this hurdle for me I would do the physical but I am too much a digi girl.

This is exactly what I am going to do but I think I would get bored using the same digi elements etc. over and over so I am going to use my have kits for different months.
