@jenn mccabe @jk703

I started with a few tiny tweaks to the cover. For legibility and balance, I switched the text block to yellow. I added 2017 to the look book name and made the TLP logo slightly larger to balance it. Oops. I also left my PS guides visible. Sorry about that... not enough coffee yet. You get the idea though...

Very pretty! Yellow really pops out. I like the guides, lol! :)

The flowers on the bottom layouts. My eye was drawn there from that pop of color. Not sure that matters.

If you ladies don't like the pop of red ... a pocket page layout could fit nicely in that longer/leaner spot.

Yes ... Jenn are you talking about the top text "Capturing All of ...." and how the white blends too much into the lighter colors of the end of the gradient? If so - that bothered me too. I can adjust the gradient maybe - or we can resize the text, move it. Yes... exactly what I meant and I wasn't trying to be nitpicky at all. Sorry. Laura has the final say on these things, these were just things that jumped out to me first glance. Depending on what Laura decides, it might just be a simple move. :)

As for the horizontal and vertical words you might be right about that too. I wanted to vary them a bit. Perhaps if we think we should have them all horizontal we could do different sizes to vary it a little? IDK. I wasn't sure about all those blocks of color either. Are they too heavy - do we need to tone that down? I'm not sure. I think turning the text will help a lot for reading, lol! I don't think the colors are too heavy, since they are BYOC. If you thought that, maybe just try rearranging them? It looks like 3 fonts for the words. Maybe use the same one for top an bottom word? Just thinking out loud here.

If you add the BYOC Logo, you could do a circle of colors rather than the blocks? Just an idea.

They truly are beautiful!

I don't want to overstep myself, and assume that I have any real say, but I thought sharing my first glance thoughts might help. If this is not needed, please let me know to be quiet. :) @lmccandless
I agree with Laura ... everyone's advice and feedback is so critical. I agree with all your points Jenn! Nothing to be sorry about ... I shared these pages as starting off points and fully expected Laura to make changes and for you ladies to help point out what you think works/doesn't work! 100%!!!

I can't tell you how nerve wracking it was even putting these drafts up last night though! HAHA:D

I don't mind it at all, and it is a part of the BYOC... :) my eye just headed that way to focus on that pop of color.

I just worry, that I might not come across as helpful or not liking it. I don't want to overstep or squish toes. Give an opinion as nicely as possible, lol!

Here's the intro page with tweaks. I replaced the gradient bar with the same color blocks as the cover page. I think the consistency there is nice? I also swapped out for our TLP brand standard fonts (ITC American Typewriter and Futura) as well as a more charcoal color for the text. I put the black color block in the center to anchor...but that did result in a bit of green where the blue and yellow overlap...not sure on that mix.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

What about a different blend mode on the blue/yellow - something a tiny bit softer so it's not so green, but we still get the opacity/transparency feel?

I posted in the other thread, lol! I was so confused at first, until Courtney showed me I wasn't nuts! @bestcee (Thanks! :)) I'm going to copy them here to keep it in one thread.

HUGE thanks to Jenn McCabe!! We've been working through some tweaks today and I made some possibly final changes. We would love your input!! (You can see the drafts in the Design thread if you want to look at previous iterations.)

Looks great! I like the switch from the gradient. And it's so cohesive with the cover!

That little niblet of gray on the end looks a bit odd. Can the dark blue be elongated?

I could have sworn that you asked about that black box in the middle and something about green- at least I thought I saw it on my phone earlier. I don't see it now. My thought was to just leave it as white maybe in that area? Or, where it shows green, just fill it with the darker color as the overlap instead of blended to make green. Is this making sense?

See, the opacity caught me as well. So out of curiosity, I went to my e-mag hoard and looked through a few.

The trendier, less "ad" more meat ones I have use these techniques. (Allure, Cosmopolitan, O) still looking through Newsweek and such. I am curious what they call it in market research (because there is always a reason) and their use for them. I think it makes it "feel" more of a real magazine in your hands. The turning of pages, etc. It speaks of detail to catch the eye. The more you blank these details out, the flatter the look. Does that make sense? From a designer, I appreciate adding visual layers when you can't add physical ones.

I personally love the opacity like that but also understand not using it.

Love how is all coming together, it has a professional, fresh & modern look and overall, stylish, 1st class....
@jenn mccabe & @jk703 you know you are loved and admired, inspiring, with this you are becoming my idols too.
Awesome work, you are amazing.
@lmccandless you know I love you, this is a wonderful, brilliant idea, loving being part of it!!!!!

Stunning. My 2 cents is I adore the lightness. The placement of text and images really look professional and compelling to me as a reader.
BOOM!! She said it better than I could @lmccandless It has a good feel and is easy for the brain (the eye) to take in
