Happy Black Friday! I didn't know what this was until a few years ago -

Black Friday
noun
def. the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season, on which retailers make many special offers.
"shoppers were snapping up deals on Black Friday"

So for today's Pad Patter my question to you is:
have you ever (or someone else you know *cough cough*) bought something just to get something else free?

Why this question, you ask?
Well I have done this with digi supplies in the past building my stash, but well, maybe the bricks and mortar shops here started embracing Black Friday this year and someone had to go pick up some things they bought online because if they can pick it up and bypass the headaches of the postal service and shipping, they absolutely will. And maybe she wandered into a few different stores while out and maybe, for some reason, there was a bonus headband with a pair of knickers that she wouldn't have bought otherwise but she has a thing for headbands and so she bought the knickers basically for the headband.

OMG, Justine you are cracking me up. I do this all the time, they buy $10 get $4 off. Sometimes I am at $7, so I will spend the extra $2 just to win $4. LOL!!!! I know it's insane.
Oh and i then went into the grocery store to buy $20 worth of stuff to qualify for free parking (to save $3.50) but came out with $30 worth of stuff. .. ?winning

I'm sure I have, but I can't think of anything specific at the moment. You've got to forgive me - I'm in a food coma. LOL

I really only do this with shipping sometimes. If I can spend $3 or $4 more to save $8 in shipping charges, I'll do it. But I will usually try to find free shipping on it somewhere else first lol. I'm truly a tight wad, so I don't really ever buy for the sake of buying or getting something else. I do like to shop where if you spend a certain amount you get a free tote or something, as long as it's somewhere I was going to shop anyway or where I can find something for people I'm unsure of what they want.

I kind of did this today. We were at Claire's and everything was buy 3 get 3 free. Two of my girls were each buying one pair of earrings to give to each other as Christmas gifts. I wasn't planning on chipping in, but I though if they were just buying one more pair they could get three more free, so I told them to pick a couple more pairs they liked and I paid for the third pair to get the additional free pairs - which I'll give them for Christmas. Felt like a win-win. Of course buy 1 get 1 would have been better for us, but they definitely sucked us in with the buy 3 get 3.

I cannot think of a specific item I have purchased to get another for free but I know that I have in the past done so.

Last time I did this was for my iherb order - got 3 lip balms for basically nothing to get free shipping

I always caught up in Yves Rocher deals. Every month they have a new gift for X amount of purchases and the gift is usually something good. So I end up spending more than I expect just to get the free gift :)
The last time I shopped there I think I had a brain fart because the cashier was insisting on giving me the gift and I thought she was trying to convince me to spend more so I was like NO THANKS! :lalalaShe said "but it's free" and I was "oh okay gimme" :D

Yessss... just yesterday! Lol! I made an online purchase to Besame Cosmetics and purchased a Snow White lipstick just to get the free $30 Snow White scarf! I also got a free messenger bag ($35) for purchasing two or more items, which I was doing anyway!

One of the items was this. How fun is that???

Only if it's something I will really use or really need. Usually I can find something that will qualify me for the free shipping or gift!!

The other day I realized I had like $40 in "cash" or incentives at DSW, and not using them really did feel like I was throwing away money, so I figured I'd look for a purse. I ended up finding two I couldn't decide between, so I ended up getting them both for like $50. That really did feel like a total "win" for me and I don't feel a bit bad about it!! :)

Yup! I do it all the time - if it's to get a good deal or percentage off and I am really close to the next level or to get me to free shipping.

Yesterday my daughter and I went to some premium outlets near us - oh my lord the Coach and Kate Spade deals on black friday! 70% off everything and some things had an additional 15% - 30% off on top of that. We bought more bags than we needed that's for sure! But also walked away from "deals" that were mislabeled - misrepresented. Like things that we thought were 50% off or 80% and really weren't (didn't have a red sticker or was placed on wrong rack) so we did hold on ground to make up for the extra spending at Coach and Kate Spade.

I hate throwing away incentive "cash" from stores too - and it does indeed lure me in. I try to be good about not going too much over the actual cash value though.
