Hello, according to the special days listing today is Stress Awareness Day.

Stress is a natural part of life, and we all have different ways to beat those short term stresses, and to cope with long term stress.

What are your go to stress coping methods?
  • Art Journaling
  • Painting
  • Scrapbooking photos of the kids when they were little and cute
  • Fiddling with stress toys
  • Reading a book I'm so familiar with I could probably recite it.
What are your tips for handling long term stress?
  • breathe and focus on today
  • look for something to be thankful for in this moment
  • look for the good in the now
  • pray

I try to look for the little things that make me happy or bring joy. Also, naps...naps always help.

As a yoga instructor with s self-practice in anxiety reduction, I have quite a long list of stress reduction tools. I'll try to keep it short and not bore anyone.

Short term:
1) Embodiment / body scan = noticing what's going on in my body. Am I breathing quickly? Am I feeling shaky? Sweaty? Red-faced (frequent stress response for me)
2) Deep, slow breathing. There is a breathing sequence from MELT (restorative format that I teach) that draws awareness to the breath in all parts of the torso, called the "rebalance sequence." This is me number one tool when I'm in a place I can sit or lie quietly and breathe.
3) Cool water on my face, either washing my face or a damp cool washcloth
4) Napping, especially with a purring kitten when available (we have 4 cats so this is usually available)
5) Crafting - scrapbooking, rubber stamping
6) Fresh air and sunlight on my face

Long term:
1) Accumulating positive emotions - making time to do things I enjoy and connection with my important people.
2) Therapy / DBT. After a traumatic event 2023 and the death of my best friend early 2024, I joined a 30 week program in dialectic behavioral therapy, it increased my ability to manage emotions, be mindful, and tolerate stress. Now, I check in with a therapist monthly to maintain my ability to regulate emotions and stress.
3) Practicing what I preach. I'm an excellent fitness instructor in yoga, MELT, pilates etc. yet the very care and kindness and thoughtfulness I extend so easily and graciously to my clients I don't take the time to give to myself. So I have to set a time at night a few nights a week to do my MELT practice.
4) To do lists, so I don't get too behind on life then stress out.

What are your go to stress coping methods?
  • Ensuring I have had enough rest & food (plus exercise when I can)
  • Using To Do Lists & my diary
  • Allowing enough time when dealing with deadlines - the more I procrastinate/put something off, the higher chance of something going wrong or not working so my stress level goes up
  • Time to breathe and cool off
  • Let out emotions if I have to
  • Talk to people that will not judge whether that be people you know or professionals
  • Take time out to do your hobbies, see friends, go to a movie, chill out and be ok with doing that
What are your tips for handling long term stress?
To be honest my long term stress handling tips are very similar if not the same as my stress handling tips.
  • Know when the stress is beyond you to deal with
  • Don't be afraid to use professional help even just for a short time

hahahaha I freak out and pull out my hair and scream? does that count?
otherwise I hybrnate and try to forget everything
I also love to take long walks in the park

bless you.
A nice long walk in the park sounds good

Kind of glad I'm not the only one that goes that way especially in super stressful situations....I try not to but that usually lasts.....oh, about 2 seconds!

I try to avoid stress but right now and the next year or so is going to be stress overload for me. But in the end it will be worth it so I just breath

What are your go to stress coping methods?
  • Scrapbooking
  • Listening to loud music
What are your tips for handling long term stress?
  • Focus on one day at a time or even one hour at a time
  • Keep track of what I accomplish so I can see progress
