Dave Ramsey

My dad has always been very good at prioritizing and saving money. We grew up in a home with four kids and my dad was a part time pastor and owned his own tax and accounting business. He also really recommends a book called Your Money Map that I think is a really good easy-to-read book as well with practical tips on saving money and having a plan. Until Micah started med school, we had zero debt except for our house (which we were recently able to refinance to a 15 year vs 30 yr which is like so super exciting to me!). Now, we have school debt which is really daunting, but I have to just keep reminding myself of those who have gone before us and chosen to continue to live on a med student's budget until they can pay off those loans. That is our goal anyway.

Okay. This is like God is saying to me, "Here's Your Sign!". LOL. I was just talking to Husband about this yesterday!! They're not doing this at our church right now, but I believe that you can enroll and do it online. Right?

We don't have much debt, but I'd really, really, like to pay off what we do have in the next few years. I just hate having it hanging over my head! I don't like to owe anybody, anything! I'll be watching this thread. Keep us posted on what you think, Crystal.

Jordan, I hope you like it and give it a go! I will let you all know how we do with it as we go! Sara is doing it too and a few weeks ahead of me, so she might have awesome insight too! I am excited though!!

I love Dave Ramesey:), even enjoy listening to his radio show. Hubs and I haven't been through the class but he grew up in a debt free family and refuses to ever carry a debt on credit cards. We were fortunate enough to save a lot in our first 6 years of marriage, so we are debt free except our house (which drives me nuts b/c we have the savings to pay it off but hubby doesn't agree with DR in that aspect).

I do have a question for those of you who envelope budget. We did that really successfully when we lived overseas because it was a cash economy and we did almost everything together. Now, though, it's easier to whip out the cc, and when we tried the envelope system here in the US it was hard because we were apart for most of the purchases and I had the envelopes at home. So dh would stop by the store to get bread, or whatever on the way home and not have cash from the "food" envelope. Does that make sense? HOw do you all deal with that? We pay off our cc each month but aren't saving much because we don't really keep track of our purchases . . .
