My husband approached me the other night asking how come I never initiate date nights. My first reaction was a bit of anger. I got quite emotional. "Wasn't the guy ALWAYS supposed to ask and plan the dates?" I did so much while we were dating and the first few years of our marriage. I think I held a grudge until two days later. HA! Letting my feelings fester until I realized....Although, I am exhausted by the end of the week and really need to get out and rejuvenate, the last thing I want to do is put creative effort into planning a night out.....(My husbands planning consists of dinner and movie.......always has, and probably always will) BUT I was happy with that. LOL HOWEVER, I value our relationship, I love this man and I want to make him happy. That MAKES me happy. Each month I am going to plan and provide a fun/adventurous date. What are some things we should do? LOL We've been married for 17 years. And with a tight budget I really really need to be creative.....
Our first date night will be valentines day. I'm getting so excited. But I'd like to have lots of ideas planned for future 'dates'. I'm so excited to get to 'know' him again...........and again.......and again. LOL

LOL Jacque! You're so cute! Congrats by the way to being married for 17 years! I don't have any ideas off the bat but when I think of some I'll come back and post! I would love to hear what everyone else has to say! I'll be married to my hubby this September for 15 years, so I could use some creative date ideas as well! :whistle

found a list of more.........
need to put them down somewheres. LOL

1.Go out for pizza
2.Try live entertainment, such as a band at a local bar or restaurant, instead of a movie.
3.Pick a TV show, get a season’s worth on DVD and make a running date to watch it together every night. (we did this with The Office and Lost)
4.Head out to the dollar theater and splurge on snacks.
5.Try brunch and a matinee; fancy restaurants are way more affordable in the a.m.
6.Pick up a bucket of fried chicken and head for the drive-in.
7.Dress up your backyard picnic table with a white tablecloth. Add candles, fancy cheese, chocolate and voila: five-star fun!
8. Too cold or wet for an outdoor picnic? Spread a blanket on the floor and have a carpet picnic. (we do this when we eat pizza with the kids!)
9. Bring home your favorite fast food, but serve it on your best china.
10. Museums usually have one free night a week or month, so hit one then.
11. Find a happy hour half off appetizers and order a few for your dinner!
12. Take a sketchpad to a scenic bluff and draw your own version of the vista.
13. Grab a basketball and hit the free courts at the park.
14. Sample international food at a street fair.
15. Hit the local video arcade.
16. Go to the library and page through the coffee-table art books, or any books!
17. Suit up and spend a late afternoon at the indoor pool of the Y.
18. Head to the highest point in town. Spend an early evening watching the twinkling lights turn on.
19 Drive out to a country field, lie down and snuggle under the stars.
20. Make yourselves the biggest, craziest ice cream sundae ever.
21. Take a tour of the house you’d (someday) love to own.
22.Paint coffee mugs at a paint-your-own-pottery place.
23. Sign up for a one-night class at your local college.
24. Hit a farmers’ market and scavenge for your dinner.
25. Take a tour of garage sales in the ritziest neighborhoods.
26. Head to an ice skating rink and strap on skates for some icy fun.
27. Book a double massage at a spa.
28. Take a balloon or helicopter ride over your town.
29. Rent a fancy car. Tool around as if you actually own it.
30. Find a nearby bed-and-breakfast. Spend the night someplace where someone else makes the bed and cooks breakfast.

those are super cute ideas! we are lazy with our dates - we do dinner/movie 99% of the time! but we're both OK with that right now :)

We live in a small town where there's not too much to do... usually dinner and a movie but we have always loved going to the movies. We've gone bowling a few times though. :) Have fun!

My church is doing a series on Love, Sex and Marriage for the next 6 weeks. This week, our senior pastor is collecting 101 date night ideas! When we get the newsletter, I will post it here!

I love the ideas you've found already though. One fun thing DH and I have done is Latin Dance lessons at the local community college. It was 3 mini sessions - fun and totally out of the box for us. I have to admit it did...umm... spice things up. :giggle

I would love to do dance lessons. I think my husband would rather die. But if he wants to shake things up a bit. He can't complain right? I'm kind of a swing girl. Don't think I can move my hips like a salsa dancer. LOL

Sucks to live here doesn't it :( We are always asking ourselves what to do.
We rarely ever get sitters (because I don't trust many people to watch my kids) so when we do go out we usually only do dinner and a movie. We do however have 1 night a week where we spend together no matter what after the kids go to bed on Wednesdays we play board games or watch a movie and snuggle, on Wednesday nights all technology is banned, no iphones/ipad's or laptops. That way we get quality time to talk and stuff :)

I am so in love with this thread and so thankful for it. I was *just* thinking about how I need to get back to a spirit of courtship sometimes..this is perfect.

So I found a band I loved at a street festival recently, and signed up for their listserv on their website. My husband doesn't know yet, but I bought us tickets to their next local concert. It is at a local brewery. I'm SO excited! I can hardly stand it and I want to tell him, but I know he'll love the surprise too.

Oh, I'm lovin' all the ideas here! Laura, can't wait to see your 'list'.. and I'd love it if you'd share other things along the way from your course...:)

Jacque, you go girl!!!!:)

We don't do big date nights. They're usually just dinner and movies too, but we do other little things that are nice.

We'll just go for a drive and go get fro-yo's

Feeding the ducks. I know that might sound weird and things you do with kids, but we have a beautiful man made lake here that I go to everyday to walk. Sometimes I come back later in the day with Rick, walk around the lake, and then feed the ducks "lay pellets". I go to the feed store several times a year and buy a 50# bag of lay feed (pellets are best) and I put them into containers that we take to the lake with us. It's very relaxing, good for the ducks (we don't do bread), and really...it's a lot of fun. One of my older boys loves it so much too, so he'll just go with his dad sometimes when I'm at work.

We have some great restaurants that have bands on the weekends. We usually go eat there for lunch, but we were just talking about how we are going to do it one weekend soon so we can stay later and listen to some great music.

We have our 30th coming up next month. I need to plan something! I can't really get away until we know what's going on with Rick and he gets treatment. Italy will just have to wait until he can walk!!

Just in Case anyone was interested.
I've completed our '12 Dates' idea packet.
This week I will be running around buying all the GCs and things I need for each packet.
I will give it to my husband the day before his birthday this Saturday.
I'm SO EXCITED!!!
Here's what I came up with, I think I'll take pictures and scrapbook each page as they happen, but for now here's a brief description of each.

17 years ago, when he first came to Albuquerque, our first date was a Tram ride.
1. (January) I made reservations for a restaurant at the top of the Tram, we will ride the tram and eat dinner 2 miles above the city.
2. (February) I booked a night at a bed and breakfast here in town. This will be for Valentines Day, birthdays and our anniversary. Since they are ALL within 3 weeks of each other. In downtown Albuquerque, I also ordered some fun books, games and treats for this night away. http://www.albuquerquebedandbreakfasts.com/ivy_room.html
3. (March) I got GCs for lunch at Subway and Tickets to the IMAX theatre. http://www.nmnaturalhistory.org/dynatheater
4. (April) I got GCs for our favorite Pizza place in town after we spend a couple hours together at the Temple.
5. (May) GCs to Chilis restuarant and Movie GCs.
6. (June) for him -During the day, GCs for all day at Calibers, a shooting range here in town. -for me: A Night In. I'll purchase our favorite chocolate and make dipped treats, light candles all over our bedroom and have a night in. ;)
7. (July) We will go to the local amusement park here in town and ride one of the top 25 wooden roller coasters in the nation, the Rattler. One of our faves!!!
8. (August) Pick up a bucket of chicken and grab a blanket, pack our cameras and tripods and jeep to 9 mile hill. Watch the sunset and take pictures of the AMAZINGLY beautiful Albuquerque lights.
9. (September) Walk along the Rio Grande river. There is a trail along the bosque and it is SO BEAUTIFUL this time of year. Then I bought GCs to ColdStone, my favorite ice cream shoppe.
10. (October) Tickets to see Disney's Lion King musical.
11. (November) I got some Gift Cards to go rock climbing for a day at Stone Age.
12. (December) Bundle up and visit our local botanic gardens River of Lights. GCs for Hot Cocoa at the local coffee shoppe after.
I'm so excited.........and now, my husband can't complain about me not coming up with date nights each month. LOL
