Earlier in the month, Jules posted info/tutorial on how to create altered books. https://the-lilypad.com/forums/showthread.php/36917-Mixed-Media-Goodness-Altered-Book I totally love the idea, but I really don't have the space/time/materials to do it at the moment. So... if you are like me and don't have the ability to make an altered book, you could always make pages that *look* like they are part of an altered book. You could scan in little odds and ends like ticket stubs or other ephemera. And then use those things to create a digital page that looks like an altered book. Even if you don't have your own little pieces of ephemera, you can find them in the store. I used Michelle/Quirky Heart’s By the Book Backgrounds as the base for my altered book. In order to keep the torn-out paper effect, I duplicated the layer, used the magic selection tool to select the paper edges, selected inverse, and then deleted the main portion of the paper. Then I took one of Lynne-Marie’s Firm Foundations papers and reduced the size a bit so it fit inside of the book background. I put the paper below the top copy of the torn paper edges. I layered some other smaller papers and journal cards. Then I added several doodles, staples, some additional papers/elements, stitches and stamps. Obviously it is not the same as having a beautiful altered book to hold in your hand, but if you create pages side by side, and have them printed, you can almost get there. No muss, no fuss. And if you are a hybrid junkie, there are tons of store materials that would be so cool printed and put in an actual altered book. Let us know if you create one of your own!
Unreal Kimberlee.... And if you wanted to create a series of them and then print them out and bind them, you would have a book / journal that you could write in, and flick through and admire. Something to hold in your hand.
