I waited until the last minute for a Halloween costume with my 13 year old. I wasn't sure she was going to trick-or-treat this year, plus she just couldn't make up her mind on what she wanted to be. She got invited to a party, so I had to go ahead with the costume shopping today instead of making something. We walked into the local Halloween shop this afternoon and, well, let's just say they could have renamed the place Sluts R Us. Seriously!!! When did it happen that the only costumes for women look like you've been invited to the Playboy Mansion instead of a Halloween Party?? After browsing the whole place, I asked one of workers who told me that most of the costumes are now made by lingerie companies. No. Really. *sigh* It was the same at all of the shops we tried today. We finally found an acceptable Pirate costume. (No, it wasn't the Naughty Pirate Wench.) I am pretty sure I added five wrinkles to my count today. *sigh*

Has anyone else noticed this issue with costumes?? Maybe I am too strict, but I was not letting my DD dress that way!

Yep I've noticed the same thing over here, all the women's costumes are raunchy, even the nun one! :giggle

YES! I had a costume party last weekend and trying to find something I could even squeeze in to much less feel comfortable wearing in public was impossible. HAHAHAHA

Funny, I just watched a news show about that last night about the origins popularity of Halloween in the US and that a lot of women want to feel sexy and only do it once a year on halloween and that's why most of the costumes look like you're on the way to a strip joint. Nice.

Yeah I saw something on the news yesterday about how girls and womens costumes have been getting worse and worse. It makes me glad that I was still able to buy Belly's in the toddler/baby section this year.

We had the same problem! We're going to have my step daughter for the first time since she was 4 and oh my. It was definitely an adventure trying to find something! (Especially with her overprotective daddy watching!)
We finally found a bat princess (or whatever). The skirt is longer, but not LONG.

My problem is that I wish I was skinny enough for those Sluts R Us costumes. *snort*

Target. Target has some (SOME, not many) pretty decent costumes for women. They have a few really pretty velvety 'queen' type dresses, different masks, and some other full-length dress type costumes. All in all though, no matter where you look, it's trash trash trash. I am so dreading my daughter getting older. *sigh*

Yes! I am so not looking forward to my daughters getting older. Even I couldn't find a decent costume for myself. I don't need my business hanging out all over the place - I'm not in college anymore!

I have to look for costumes in plus sizes - and all of those are slutty, too! No one wants to see me in a skirt that short! I had my mom help me make a costume that covers up a lot more!

it's been like that for a few years. and when you have a tall preteen like i did, when she was 10-12, i was mortified.
this year, she is 15 and is going to be a mime with one of her friends.
i'm so glad.
it's modest and all.
LOL

My SIL went a couple of weeks ago to look for some for the little girls, and some of them costume she described to me were not appropriate at all. She just ended up leaving the Halloween Store and going to Target too.

OMG this...I thought I would dress up with the kids this year....yea that's a big negative ghostwriter!!

I totally agree. One of my pet peeves...My 10 year old needs costumes that are larger than some of the kid sizes and the teen costumes are all slutty looking. Women costumes too. She likes greek mythology so she ended up getting a large kid's Athena costume that is acceptable. She wanted to be Monster High but even those would looked skimpy on a 10 year old. The same with the teen clothes. The skirts and shorts and really short, the shirts are skin tight. I am not looking forward to clothes shopping for her in the next few years.

edited to say we went to an amusement park tonight and made her a Monster high outfit out of her own clothes and mismatching things. She was happy with that.
