So, on Saturday there was a big Utah rivalry game - University of Utah vs. BYU. (Yes, Utah won the 8th straight match-up! :byay) You may have heard it called the Holy War if you've been anywhere near the game or fans of the game.

I'm not a huge football fan, but I always have to tune in and see this game. And it made me wonder - are you a college sports fan? Is it part of your weekend tradition? Is it because you went to the school, or did you grow up with it? Or are sports something that happens and you just don't get the appeal?

I never went to either school, but my dad and annoying brothers root for BYU, and the rebellious part of me loves to see them lose! :giggle

Lol! I love the fact you root for Utah just because! You’re too funny.

I don’t follow college sports. I went to colleges that had dismal sports teams at best. When I was in California I would watch certain games just because I knew players on the visiting teams!

The only time I’d watch college football was with my dad on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Rose Bowl. That’s it. I haven’t watched anything since. I’m just not that big of a sports fan!

I have always loved college football. It was a huge part of my upbringing. My dad was an Ohio State Buckeye fan all his life and so am I. I went to college at the University of Toledo (see avatar... sporting their colors at a game) all because I fell in love with the campus when I went to a game in junior high to see my cousin play there. So I always root for Toledo and Ohio State.

Toledo's big rival is Bowling Green State University... it is just 20 miles south of Toledo on I-75 and their rivalry game is now called the "Battle of I-75". Toledo leads the series 40-39-4 and Toledo has won the last 9.

But the bigger rivalry is "The Game" between Ohio State and Michigan (aka TTUN: That Team Up North). This game has been a huge part of my life especially during the 60's. My uncle and his best friend that lived behind them were on opposite sides of the rivalry. My dad got into the act with his fun teasing of the friend's wife. If TTUN won, Dad would send her a red rose (the game usually determined the team representing the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl in those days). If OSU won, Dad would get a red rose from her. It is still the one game that I have to watch every year and this year was no exception! OSU was not predicted to win and they showed everyone who was in charge by winning 62-39! Since 2000, Michigan has only won this game 3 times. Michigan does lead the series 58-50-6 though.

On a side note, in 2000 ESPN ranked the OSU-Michigan game as the "greatest North American sports rivalry".

We are HUGE college football fans in our house. Our youngest child and our German Shepard are named after the coaches if that tells you anything:lol. For my husband, it goes back to childhood. For me, it was around the time we got married. We plan our fall around football Saturday. We stay home as a family and I cook lots of game day food and we have football games on all day. My younger kids don’t enjoy it that much, yet. My older 2 are right there with us screaming and cheering. My brother-in-law has season tickets so sometimes we go to the games.

Love college sports!! WVU played Oklahoma Friday night and even though we lost by 3 (59-56), it was a great game! The sad thing was it was a chance at the Big 12 Championship to play a team we've already beaten. But we should still get a decent bowl game. I was accepted to WVU, but ended up going to a smaller college. I have bled blue and gold since the day I was born :) My grandson dressed up as head coach Dana Holgerson last Halloween because he had the perfect hair for it!

We live in a neighborhood made up primarily of mormons (the local temple is across the road from us!) SO- the BYU v Utah game was a BIG deal here! ;) One of our neighbors had a big party (and even invited us) but we had other plans.

We are huge college sports fans- we root for our alma mater- Eastern Washington University (which is only 30 mins away), as well as our town favorite- Gonzaga Basketball! We've gone to a few of the EWU football games this year (they are now in the playoffs- going to a game in December here in the cold doesn't sound like fun now!) We even go to a few of the basketball/volleyball games. My hubby's work gets tickets all the time so we can use those inexpensively! We watch the zags play- as going to those games is spendy!!

I watched football when I was younger because my family did. Daddy loved watching the Bears play for NFL, but he also watched Alabama play with his dad and his brothers. I still associate my Big Daddy (grandfather) with Bear Bryant, even though they really didn't look much alike. My uncle and aunt (that are really more family friends) moved to Alabama when I was 9 and they always watched Alabama as well. Hubby watched all kinds of football, mostly NFL (Cowboys), but then started watching Alabama with his friends from work. I watched while doing other things (mostly cross stitching) but in 2012, I watched the National Championship Game all by myself . . . and thus became an Alabama fan myself. Before then, I just watched because it was on, not because I was choosing to watch.

Usually hubby and I will cook hamburgers or sausage, soup or chili, and then will watch the game. We usually have chips and dip as well. It's fun having something that we are both passionate about!

Um, I had to double check your user name. Cuz I thought you were @gonewiththewind first!

I bet! Lol. It was an interesting one when they came and played in Las Vegas. We didn't live here, but it was hilarious to see how packed I-15 was heading down.

This is me. I usually just watch if it's on. Munchkin is becoming a big football fan in spite of his parents!

Yeah, football was a passion for my dad. In fact, my parents were married on a Friday night in October 1954. Their honeymoon consisted of attending an Ohio State football game on Saturday. Sunday was a day in Cincinnati and both of them were back to work on Monday (Mom was a teacher). Prior to marriage my Dad would go to Cleveland to see the Browns play... back in their championship days!

Watching TV when I was a kid was using an antenna and hoping you could get more than one network station. I remember when all Bowl games were on New Years Day... a game on each network all day long. A couple of times we had 3 TV's in the living room for the day. Several friends came over and we just watched football all day. It was not hard for me to fall in love with football.

My parents also had season tickets to the local high school games for many years. They had a ticket for me as well so I started with that as a youngster also. They gave up those tickets when the stadium was remodeled and their prime seats in front of the press box (that we could lean against) had many rows of seats behind them. Dad would still go to the game but stand at the end zone to watch the game (because they allowed that at that time). He loved football to his dying day with the Buckeyes being his team forever... even after he started living with Martha who was a Michigan fan!

Hockey fans here....This is us....

Well, let me edit my original comments to hubby loves The Red Wings". I said he like a few teams and the Wings are one of them. He's a huge fan of ALL the Detroit teams + Notre Dame +Indiana University. Other than that, he really doesn't watch much sports. haha When we lived up there, we got to go to some of the Wings games and even I got excited. We also went to some Piston's games. He used to get some of Dave Bing's (he's a former hall of famer and mayor of Detroit) tickets (right behing the bench) - talk about exciting! We could hear everything they said.

@Cherylndesigns I love it! That's awesome that he's a state team fan.
Yes, he's true to his state teams. He always announces when they're playing so we can plan around them. Haha When we lived in Michigan, my sister lived in E. Lansing, just off Michigan State's campus. We all (the kids and I) became big State fans and we had our own little rivalry with my hubby whenever State played. My sister and daughter still follow Michigan State and we have lots of T shirts and sweatshirts that have State emblems on them. Most of my hubby's baseball caps have "the D" on them. He's been a Detroit "anything" fan since he was a kid. He went to General Motors Institute in Flint, but says he remembers listening to the Tigers on the radio long before that.

My uncle is a huge Tigers fan! He grew up in Southern Ontario Canada, and so the Tigers were his team because he didn't like the Blue Jays. They are still his team today. He worked with automobiles, so I wonder if there's a connection there for him too?
