**CLOSED**

If you missed the deadline for March... keep an eye out for our next swap in April!

Breaking News...

We are extending the deadline to sign up for this! You have through Friday, March 20th to get in on the fun. Partly b/c I'm a crazy person for the next two days with a school play... but also because I want YOU to be able to join in!

Have you heard about ATC? Artist Trading Cards? If so, aren't they fun? If not, you are gonna love this!

So, here's what Wikipedia says about them (I know, my kids can't use it as a reference, but I can, hehe). "Artist trading cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern trading cards baseball cards or 2 1⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches (64 mm × 89 mm), small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.) or even metals or fiber. The cards are usually traded or exchanged"

And guess what? We are gonna start an ATC exchange right here at The Lilypad! :woot

TLP ATC 001

Here's how it will work...

1. Anyone who wants to participate must sign up in this thread by FRIDAY, MARCH 20. I'll keep a running list at the bottom of this post.

2. You create ONE OR MORE cards. Easy, peasy! And you will make however many copies of that card as there are people who signed up. For example, if there are 8 folks or 18 folks, you will make that many cards.

3. Card Specs: Each card should be 2.5 in x 3.5 in (64 mm × 89 mm). You will be supplied a template when you purchase your postage that will allow you to fit 9 cards on one piece of cardstock. Awesome, right? (note: you don't have to use this, it's just an idea of size. And don't "resize to fit page"... just print as is).

This month the theme is ANYTHING GOES :giggle . Depending on the interest, we will be doing this on a regular basis and will have themed swaps in the future! These cards can be all digital or you are welcome to add any mixed media techniques you want to them.

They can be ANY STYLE you want... mixed media/art journal, or clean and simple. It's up to you and your creativity!

Also, these are the size of a standard playing card, so if you want to start with those as your base and create them using hybrid techniques, that'd be super fun and awesome, too! Just a thought...

THE DEADLINE FOR CARD COMPLETION IS MARCH 31st.

4. Then you will get the cards to me. There will be two options for this.

Option 1. Print the cards yourself, cut them and send them to me via snail mail. I will PM you my address once you sign up, pay and let me know this is your option. This is prefered for U.S. folks. Feel free to use that address to send flowers or chocolates at any time.

Option 2. If you are international and do not want to ship your cards as this will take extra time and money, you can have your cardstock printed at MY LOCAL STAPLES, letting me know when you send it there. Then I'll pick them up and cut them out for you. I'll give you more details on WHERE and HOW to have them printed via PM once you sign up and let me know this is the option you are choosing. Just a note: these currently cost $2.02 per 8.5 x 11 in sheet of 110lb cardstock.

Again, they should ALL be on their way BEFORE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1st.

5. On the back of each card please label them with your name, date, any title/message about the card, the label "TLP ATC 001" and credits. You can get really creative with this (check out Pinterest) or it can be plain... your choice. If you are having them printed via Staples, just PM me with this info once you let me know they have been printed and I'll label them for you.

If you desire to "create" a back digitally, just print one copy of the back for each copy of the front and they can be adhered together! You can also adjust the template to put the 2 parts together so they can be folded. Maybe I'll get a little tutorial on this...

6. Once I get everyone's cards in my hot little hands, I will divide them up and send them out to each of you! I will obviously need your address as well, so make sure I get that somehow. In the end and if everyone sends their cards to me, each participant will receive at least as many cards as you sent... all fun and different! EEK. HAPPY MAIL. :woot

7. Fee: There is a small cost to cover purchasing the return envelope and postage. We honestly do not know exactly how much international shipping will be b/c it will depend on the volume/weight of cards, so these fees may be adjusted after the first month. For now, the cost is $3 if you live in the US and $5 if you are international. That's still less than the cost of a cup of Joe at Starbucks! You will not be added to the official list until you check out and pay. And that'll be easy, too... you can check out directly from the TLP store. *BE SURE TO CHECK THE DROP DOWN AND CHOOSE US OR INTERNATIONAL*

Here's your Postage Link.

This is gonna be totally worth it when you get to hold these fun cards and start collecting them! I cannot wait to see what everyone creates.

OH... that reminds me. DO.NOT.POST. your card either here or in the gallery until after they have been mailed out. I think it'll be super fun to be surprised! Once the swap is complete, you can post your own card in the gallery!

If you are still scratching your head, check out these products by Sissy Sparrows created specifically for ATC creations.

Also a quick search for Artist Trading Cards on Pinterest will yield all kinds of inspiration! Yep, I spent about an hour there just today. Sigh. LOL.

And finally, check out these fabulous cards created by Ona... they were done for a Pocket Journal, but you can get an idea what we are talking about...

Other stuff: Please use at least 75% TLP products (plus any mixed media items you want to use).

Remember, this is the 1st of a series of cards... you are gonna want them all.

I'm signing up and I can't wait to hold your creations in my hand!

*Note: please make sure I am clear that you are actually signing up (as opposed to just commenting about how coolio this idea is, hehe). Also, please let me know when you sign up if you will be printing your own (domestic) or sending to Staples (international option).

I'm signing. I did a few of these for Two Curly Headed Monsters and loved every minute.
Question though: Can't Staples print two sided - so we prepare two sheets front and back (with the credits) and Staples prints both sides - then you just need to cut. A thought...
Off to pay for postage... More important may be how they are labeled on the shipping manifest so no one pays duty or anything..

Sorry Jen - I was so excited I chose US and I live in Canada - Should I just re-purchase?

Awesome! And YES they can print 2 sided so you are totally welcome to do that! It's just a teeny bit more complicated and I didn't want to confuse anyone who wasn't comfortable with the upload process as it is :)

that sound fun. But i will not be with you during these coming month. We plan some work in the house and I think I'm running out of time to do everything

I'll need to look this up, 'cause it sounds like superfun!!!

Allthough this month will not be do-able for me... I'll have alot on my head with my new job..
But I'll follow this, it's sincerely somethig that interests me!!! :yesss

Wahoo..... I'm so so excited.

Sign me up Jen!!!! I've paid my international fee, can't wait. I'm going to see if I can do a backing and get it printed double sided.

Sounds like super fun but I am located in China & snail mail tend to loose their slow slow way over here. I have lost many packages sent from my Dutch friends over to China :thumbsdowns

I'm in! It has been YEARS since I made an ATC card and that was at the prompt of our very own Michelle Godin when she was a designer at Scrap Artist and I was on the site CT there. This will be so fun to get in the mail! I'm off to buy the postage bit in the store. :)

by the way, as I was reading this all I could think is... this is going to cost you an arm and a leg Jen... until I saw that you were one step ahead of me. LOL.

Yay for Jules and Karen... I think it's gonna be so fun!

And those who can't do it this month, we hope to make it a regular thing around here. I want a whole book of cards from YOU! (yes, I'm greedy that way)

Sounds fun. I loved making these. So we're not doing them digital? We're doing actual paper ones? I'll play for the first round anyway.

YAY. You can create them digitally certainly but they will be cut out and mailed old school style. So exciting!

Total beginner here but I want to. Have to go back and read the directions on paying postage. It will be there soon.

I would love to do it, my problem is when it comes to make the document to send yopu or perpare for the Local staples whatever that is for printing and you to pick them up- my mind still had trouble to get my AJ pages right as my program sometimes doesnt give me the option to do the size I want- but will ask Sarita if she can undestand and explain the size and what to do, so will be back is it is possible :)

Cynthia - if someone made you a template with the Atc's at the right size and a blank document in the right size for printing, to copy and paste them too - would that help? I'm sure someone could arrange that?

I'm thinking of signing up too - I'll have think xx

Cyn, if I read right above - you can download a template once you've paid shipping xx

Yes, there is a template that has 9 cards on it you will get once you decide you wanna do it. It will show you the size and you can create directly on that if you want :) I'll totally walk you through the printing. Would LOVE a card from you!

You, too, Vicky! It'll be fun!

Yay. Beginners welcome! Most of us are beginners at ATCs anyway. Awesome.

Jen.... just so I've got it right.... we only need to create one and then copy it 18 or whatever the sign up is.... OR .... do we have to do all individual ones for each person that signs up?

you only have to create/design one and make 18 (or however many) copies of that one. depending on the final count, I may do more than one... just for kicks and grins :)
