Happy National Chocolate Milk Day!

When I think of chocolate milk, I think of Nesquik, the school lunch mini milk cartons, and the big gallon jugs of chocolate milk.

I grew up making my own chocolate milk with Nesquik. I would also dip bananas in the chocolate Nesquik powder for a snack.

I rarely ate school lunch and I don’t think I ever chose the mini chocolate milk cartons because 1) it was too warm and 2) it was too thick.

My kids requested chocolate milk once so I bought a big gallon jug and we never finished it because no one liked it very much.

How about you?
When you think about chocolate milk what comes to mind?
When’s the last time you drank chocolate milk?
Do you drink cow’s milk or other milk or no milk?

you won't find any of those in my house.
We do have cocoa drinks sometimes. Those we make with cocoa powder and hot water. We then add the milk or cream of choice (same amount as you would in a cup of normal coffee). My youngest is dairy free so she uses almond milk or just has it black with some cinnamon added. No - no sweeteners used.

I grew up drinking powdered chocolate milk mixes too, but I loved the strawberry version. I love the idea of dipping bananas in the Nesquik mix for a snack! That's pretty darn creative!

My boys both loved getting chocolate milk with their lunches at school and my oldest still loves when I buy a gallon of chocolate milk when he's home. I think my younger one will sometimes have some and I know my hubby likes it too. I don't ever drink any anymore. Not that I don't like it, I just don't even feel the craving anymore. I very rarely even drink regular milk either. Once in a blue moon I'll have a bowl of cereal, but that's about all the milk I have these days.

Now I want to try adding cinnamon to hot cocoa. Thanks for the idea.

I don’t know if it’s creative or just weird lol

I’m with you and never drink milk. If I have a bowl of cereal I use coconut milk.

The only milk I will ever drink is chocolate milk. As a kid, it was the Nesquik mix. At school I would get the small chocolate cartons. Even as an adult I would drink those cartons when I would go to our local Rotary pancake day. I've also ordered chocolate milk in restaurants when I order breakfast foods (no matter what time of day). Chocolate milk was the only way my mom could get me to drink milk at all. Still feel the same way about it... milk is yuck!

Unfortunately, I can no longer drink chocolate milk (or eat chocolate of any kind). I've switched to strawberry flavor of my Ensure breakfast drink or mixing Carnation Instant Breakfast with milk.

We have O'Boy in Sweden - I guess Nesquick is about the same. You just mix it with milk - cold or warm. It's so sweet, I cannot drink it anymore, but my hubby loves it.

I prefer old-school - milk, sugar and cocoa powder and heat it on the stove. It was last week, or maybe the week before, that I had it. Cheese sandwiches & hot cocoa - yummy!

Sometimes I heat milk in the microwave, then add one tsp O'Boy and one tsp Nescafe - I call it O'Boffee & I love it.

Weird fact: hubby and son cannot drink hot cocoa. They get nose bleed! I know - it's weird. Never heard of anyone else. I didn't believe my hubby at first, I just thought he had some ... well, mental issues with it. But then, my son the same - and he was just a toddler. Hubby drinks both coffee and tea, and son is fueled by tea - but NO hot cocoa. If anyone else heard of anyone with this problem - I'd love to hear it!

Nesquik immediately springs to mind. The nightmare from my childhood, far too sweet for me and then the "cocoa skin" [ I don't know the right word in English ] on top ... so nasty ... I haven't drunk it since. If I ever try it again, it will be with cow's milk, ice cold and not too sweet.

Nothing really, it's never been a fave to be honest & I don't love it enough to pay a premium for a small (but great quality) bottle of lactose free chocolate milk

When’s the last time you drank chocolate milk?

At least 14 years ago as I became lactose free but probably more like 25 to 30 years ago

Do you drink cow’s milk or other milk or no milk?
I don't really drink milk at all but if I do it's a grocery store brand long life lactose free milk - I did start out buying fresh lactose free milk when I first became lactose free because that's all that was available at the time but as time has gone on there have been other brands bring long life versions in to New Zealand from Australia. The downside to being cheap is sometimes my preferred brand is out of stock but that's only happened once or twice.

I’m glad you got your milk in when little by making it chocolate. ;) At least you can do strawberry now!

It sounds like you and Angela are both old school. I’ve never tried that method but I think I need to now! I will not be mixing cheese sandwiches with hot cocoa though lol we do like grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup.

I love that you’ve named your special drink and think it needs a page for itself. ;)

I’ve never heard of the nose bleed problem! So crazy! My daughter had the worst nose bleed ever this year and I think it traumatized our whole family.

I’m sorry I brought back your childhood nightmare!

I’m not a big fan of chocolate milk either so I definitely won’t pay a lot for it. I’m also a brand snob so I’m sorry your preferred brand of lactose free milk is out of stock sometimes. That’s the worst!

I don't drink milk a lot. I am not a fan of the taste honestly and it does a number on my stomach. I do love cashew and almond milks though. And when I do drink milk I like chocolate

last time I had chocolate milk was at work. It was cold last week so I made myself a hot chocolate milk tea lattee at Poke World. <3 it tasted like hot chocolate.. but I added brown sugar and salty cheese foam to it

Milk kills my stomach too!

Adding brown sugar sounds good but you lost me at salty cheese foam lol

I’m the odd man out in my house. They all love chocolate milk. Usuaually made with Hershey’s chocolate syrup but sometimes we will buy it by the gallon from the grocery store. Even the 2 year old will only drink chocolate milk! If I give her plain milk she will let it sit. I will drink hot chocolate from time to time though.

I forgot you can make it with Hershey’s syrup! That’s funny the 2 year old will only drink chocolate milk. Better than nothing I guess! ;)

I used to do both the Nestle Quicks (I loved strawberry when I was 12) and Hershey's Syrup methods when I was a kid. In the last decade and a half (since I've been lactose intolerant), occasionally I'll buy chocolate almond milk for fun. It has been a long time since I last did. It's funny because I went with my middle kid to do the family grocery shopping today (which I never do anymore; usually its middle kid and husband, but he's sick right now) and my eyes fell on the chocolate almond milk and I considered it but decided against it. Now you tell me it's Chocolate Milk Day and I kind of wish I had bought some. :P

That’s funny you thought about buying it today! There’s always next time. I like almond milk so now I’m tempted to try chocolate almond milk.
