For those of you that I'm not FB friends with here is some news that has been simmering away since August 2015

Changes are afoot for 2016. I have just said "yes" by email to 12-18 months further study. I still have to formally accept the offer when it comes in.

My grade average was one grade too low for direct entry to the Masters in Disability & Inclusion Studies which I knew was a possibility but I have been offered entry into the Postgraduate Diploma instead with minimum grades of B/B+ from my first semester required so that I can go up to the Masters. The papers to begin are exactly the same so I initially wouldn't miss out on anything. To do this I'll be commuting down to Hamilton twice a week as I didn't get into student accomodation. As I only live an hour and a half away and only have classes twice a week, to me financially its the better option especially if I get $1 bus fares each way. Truth be told, the length & for the most part the timing of my commute and how I did uni in my last semester is roughly how I will be doing the PG Dip/Masters - at uni twice a week but staying there all day to use resources etc.

I know this goes against almost everything most of my family would want (they would want me working) so this is a journey I'll pretty much be taking on my own. I admit it, at times I'm scared and worried about whether I'm doing the right thing but I need to stay focussed about the end goal - CANADA!

You aren't alone -- you have us. It's hard when family doesn't agree with more schoooling. It sounds like everything is working out right so that's a good sign and will give you a better chance at a job. Congratulations.

It's not so much they don't agree, certain members of my family don't know cause I haven't told them as I know what their reaction would be. I'm lucky that my mum is fully on board so I do have that support.

Oh good it's great to have mom's backing. I can understand that feeling of whether or not to tell. I'm actually going through it myself as I've applied to a local college to get some face to face training. I really haven't told anyone.

Congratulations! That's so awesome that you got into the program, and yeah to only needing to commute twice a week!

Could you explain this more for me?

Are you taking over the country when you finish? :headscratch:whistle:giggle

For undergraduate papers to be full time in New Zealand you need 4 papers which usually equals a minimum of 4 days a week depending on whether there are lectures only or tutorials as well where as postgraduate study, full time is only two papers so thats why it is doable for me at least.

I have dual citizenship with Canada so am wanting to move to Vancouver eventually to work - it might still be 3-5 years away though

You have your Lily Pad family and we are right behind you. Keep your eyes on the goal :)

Congrats, Jennifer! Keep moving forward, and you will reach your goal before you know it! It's great that your Mom supports you!

WOW, have so enjoyed reading about your undertaking!! Congratulations to you! Keep up that schooling and get as much as you can. You have your whole life to work. Follow your dreams! I returned to college at age 54 and never regretted a day of it!

Jennifer! Thank you for posting this...seeing you push towards your goal, and the fun(sometimes hard work, but still brain and body busy fun) you are having as you get closer is a joy to watch. I pity the fool who tells you, no YOU can't! bhahhahhahah

Oh sounds like a wonderful new step in your adventure, Jennifer! Congratulations and best wishes and warm love as you continue forward pursuing your goals! Hope you continue to see how your hard work bears fruit for you! Vancouver here you come! :beat

Jennifer, good luck with everything! Only you know what's right for you. Forge your own path & live the dream!

That's exciting. Congrats on getting into the course! Shame about missing out on the housing - hope you don't have to go all the way into central AK to catch the bus?

Congrats on your acceptance! Your determination reminds me of my daughter - she is working two jobs & going to school part-time for her Masters. She doesn't let much of anything get in her way, and it sounds like you have that same sense of purpose. Look out Canada, Jennifer's on her way! :)

No I don't - if I did I probably wouldn't even consider it as that would double my time easily
