Let's face it, the concept of change is all around us, there's not many ways to escape it.

I've had the idea of change in my mind for awhile now so I'm asking the hard questions....

What was the last time you or a family member encountered a change of some sort?

What was it?

Do you or any family members have any significant changes planned for the rest of 2024?

Personally, about 2 1/2 years ago (February 2022). My mum, right now (well the past couple of weeks).

What was it?
For me it was my diagnosis of IBS and subsequent change to gluten free. For my mum it was the realization that after badly managing working part time (4 days a week but she'd often only work 2-3 days a week most weeks) along side the debilitating fatigue of Long COVID that she's had for the past 18 months, she handed in her notice yesterday with her final official day after the remaining sick leave is used (she doesn't get it paid if it's not used) being 8/15. Luckily she gets paid a government pension so with a few financial changes by both of us, it will work.

Other than me getting a full time job and moving hopefully, not really. Our plan is really to hunker down a bit, refocus our priorities a bit and not have the pressure of employment and the impact of chronic health conditions lingering, sure it's a change but more than likely a positive change

we're going through a lot of change right now.
My youngest has left school and is awaiting her GSCE results. She is planning on going to 6th form for further education.
My son has left 6th form and is awaiting his A level results. He is hoping to go to university in September.
Our pastor is leaving us to go to a different town, so it's all change in church too.
And yesterday our next-door neighbour moved out to down size, and someone new is arriving later today. The third neighbour to sell up this year and another has their house on the market. Our other next-door neighbour is talking about moving into a bungalow now that her grown up sons have moved out. When we arrived on the street it was full of teenagers and children. My youngest is the only person still under 18 in the cul-de-sac. All the nests have emptied, and the parents have downsized, or moved to be closer to other relatives. None of the new comers have children at the moment.

What was it? My youngest "live-in" grandchild has moved out. So I'm as "empty-nested" as I'll likely ever be since my disabled daughter is living with me.

Do you or any family members have any significant changes planned for the rest of 2024? Not really ... I'm still not sure if I'm ready to retire (I mostly like my job, like the income, like being able to contribute to my retirement fund) or if I just want to take a couple of months off next summer to travel ... and how I'll deal with job stuff if I'm not in the office ... federal/state/county forms and payments for example.

We've had a few the last couple of years. My husband has changed jobs a couple of times. The youngest graduated high school and started college. He also started working regularly, so it's super quiet around here these days.

My husband is looking for a new job. The one he is has is cutting hours and the pay is not great. Other than that, I don't think there are any big changes coming up that I'm aware of lol

I have two kids starting at new schools this month so that’s a change for them and for me. Fingers crossed they don’t hate it!

What was the last time you encountered a change of some sort? 2023

What was it? Several different health issues. First diagnosed with acid reflux which meant dietary changes. Then the heart issues that I ended up having 3 surgeries in a matter of 4 months. Following the last surgery where there was an issue during surgery with not being able to get a scope down my throat, I had an EGD scope and biopsy and found out that the acid reflux is actually GERD. Thankfully the surgeries have helped with the heart and I'm on a medication that helps with the GERD but the dietary changes have become permanent.

Do you or any family members have any significant changes planned for the rest of 2024? Hopefully not since the 2023 issues lasted until April of 2024.

I'm in the midst of big change right now. The federal funding for my paraeducator job the last 3 years ended with the last school year. Luckily for me, there was another position I could move in to, but I was anxious the entire last school school year, increasingly as the year wore on, about whether I would have a job. I went as far as applying at other school districts. But the last Monday of the school year I was offered a contract at my same school.

Now I've been back at work for 2 days, though the students don't return for another week. It's going well so far! It's still a paraeducator job, but while I was moving from class to class every half hour to hour before, working with all grade levels, now I'm working in one special ed classroom all day. It currently only has 6 students! That's a big change! One awesome thing about it, though, is that I already know 5 of those students, having worked with them last year. And as someone who homeschooled my own children, I've always believed the smaller the class size the better.

This past two years have been nothing but change, most of which has been hard. I think we are sort of settling into a new normal, I hope.

What was it?
My scrapbooking has ended for the foreseeable future. That is why you have not seen me around. Scrapping events from 2020 about killed it in 2021. Then life got crazy in 2022, especially with my dad. He got prostate cancer (late 2022), found out he had Crohn's, didn't get better and had to have surgery (March 2023), got tongue cancer and had the 1/3 end of his tongue removed (June 2023), did radiation and was hopeful, only to be pronounced terminal (Nov 2023), and died on Dec 29, 2023. I now have mom-duty and look after her several times a week. She lives about 45 minutes away from me.

And from my immediate family, add in job issues, mental health issues, stress, and even happy things and yeah. I can't bring myself to scrap the stories.

Sewing!! It was my first craft love (age 10) and now that I have returned to it, I remember how much I love it! I am making bags and learning to quilt! I might make clothes, but probably not.

Hopeful my second son gets a full-time job in his field after getting his Masters over a year ago. The past 2 years have been full of starts and failures for him.

The biggest and most invasive change in my life happened 4 and a half years ago when my then 20-year-old daughter passed away, after a 16-day coma. Right now I'm thinking of changing jobs, new challenges, and new perspectives.

What was the last time you or a family member encountered a change of some sort? This spring!

What was it? My youngest graduated high school. It feels really weird to have my youngest graduated!

Do you or any family members have any significant changes planned for the rest of 2024? The same youngest son will start college in the fall and the oldest son is getting his first off campus apartment this fall (starting his 3rd year of college). Lots of good and exciting changes going on for them!

My diabetic daughter is moving on campus for her junior year at university, and I am nervous about it. She is not totally dependent on us for her diabetes management, but there are still times where I have had to wake her up to treat a low blood sugar. I am scared about what will happen if I am not there and she goes low... I know this is something that ALL TD1 parents go through but it's still very scary to let go. This is going to be a HUGE change for me and I am not sure how I will cope for the first few months... :stars
