Yes, Michele it probably would but I'd think about asking now just to know.
I must say, I really had done all the right research and testing before we hit Apple today. I said I thought it was the graphics/video card and sure enough it was. Our helper looked surprised that I got it right and asked if I'd like a blue shirt...the current color of the Genii in the store. Then for $625+ I could have a new video bit installed with a new logic board. Warranty? 90days. My dh just shook his head no and the Genius said he wouldn't do it. Even trying to get it done at an outside store, the going rate for the supplies is $600+ ...(information from prior forum reading)
We talked about options I might have and when I mentioned the new iMac Pro coming out in December (at $5K) our Genius said. "I don't think you need that..." and I went into pout mode. Need? no. Want? well yeah kinda. However, I think I will spend the rest of the year learning PSCC and maybe get an auxiliary monitor.
Oh I can get $175 for this iMac ...scrap and parts. That will pay for a monitor....so things work out, somehow...

I love that you did the research ahead of time and already knew what the problem was! I also love that they suggested you need a blue shirt. 
Sorry the cost to fix it was so much, but I'm glad that you still got some money out of it for a new monitor. Total bummer about your phone dying too though. I dropped mine in the spring and cracked my screen diagonally across the whole phone. I was so mad at myself. Thankfully I've been able to continue using it because like you, I'm hoping this one will make it until the iPhone 8 comes out. Yesterday though mine shut down while I was taking a picture and I couldn't get it to turn back on. Yikes! I finally pushed firmly on the screen until the glass pieces clicked back into place and it immediately turned back on. Yikes... I just hope that doesn't happen again and I can make it one more month.
