Happy National Card Playing Day! I love playing cards. I grew up playing a lot of four down, slap Jack, war, speed, Uno and Phase 10, just to name a few. For Christmas my kids bought me Uno Attack so we had fun playing that on Christmas Day with my parents. Do you enjoy playing cards? When’s the last time you played a card game? What are your favorite card games? What are your least favorite card games?
I think the last card game I played was "Rock/Paper/Scissors" with cards vs. hands. And that was years ago with my youngest grandson. Growing up we played Old Maid, Go Fish, and Hearts. Later my great-aunt taught us to play Gin Rummy (?). I did buy "Santa Cookie Elf Candy Snowman" recently. It's a holiday version of "Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza," but we haven't played it yet. Had planned on taking it to my sister's Christmas Day, but forgot it.
My daughter got Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza for Christmas. I am the worst and always lose lol I wish I’d known about the holiday version!
Ditto! My grandpa taught Mom, Dad & I how to play "31" when I was in high school. I learned how to play Euchre by watching a game played at lunch back in the 80's. Someone tried to teach me in the 70's and I just couldn't get it then. By the end of the temp work assignment (about 8 months) I knew enough to sub when someone wasn't there. Doubt I could play it now though. These days... no card games for me. Not even solitaire.
We play all kinds of card games - or just games in general. My kids learned many too. It ranges from Solitaire - there are oodles of solitaires that we all know, Poker - any style, Blackjack, Castle, Scat, Kings in the Corner, Tonks, Rummy, Gin, Uno, Phase 10, Exploding Kittens, Cards Against Humanity..... and many children's games. So many games! I'm learning Canasta currently using an App.
Do you enjoy playing cards? I used to when I was younger. My brother and I would play Rummy all the time and we had this Go Fish game that had these adorable sea creatures. I specifically remember Stella Starfish was my favorite! When my kids were old enough, it was Go Fish, then Uno, and eventually Pit & Rummy When was the last time you played a card game? It's been a while...I think last New Year's Eve we all played Uno. What are your favorite card games? Pit What are your least favorite card games? Solitaire, I just don't get the point...
I love to play cards. My sister and I and a roommate played tons of Gin Rummy in college. I also played a ton of euchre then and still love to play it now. We have a euchre tournament with bunches of friends next weekend and I look forward to that each year. I also like to play solitaire type games, but now that's mostly on my phone, so I don't even have to deal the cards. Lol. We always used to pack Uno for camping trips with the kids. Those games could get heated sometimes too! Ha ha! We also played a bunch of war with the kids and Kings in the corner.
Do you enjoy playing cards? Love playing cards!! When’s the last time you played a card game? Do online card games count? If so, I just finished an online game of Spades In person, it was probably at school with my kiddos. What are your favorite card games? Spades, Phase10, Skip-Bo, Poker... What are your least favorite card games? Probably War or Uno
I have always enjoyed playing cards. I played Rummy the most with my sister growing up, along with Crazy Eights (Uno before there was Uno) and Kings In The Corner. I even played Solitaire quite a bit with cards before we had a digital version. I taught my kids all these card games and they taught me some and we've played cards a lot too. Not as much as board games though, which they have preferred. I can't remember the last time I played cards exactly, but I'm sure it was earlier this year. My favorite card game is Rummy because it's the most interesting. Least favorite would be Go Fish because it's boring.
I think I’ve played Rummy and Gin but it’s been a looooong time. I agree there are so many games! I love that games are apps now; that’s a great way to learn them!
I love that you remember Stella Starfish. I checked out Pit from our library but the kids never opened it up to play so I returned it. I’ll have to check it out again when they’re bored of their Christmas goodies and willing to play a new game with me.
I played a lot of Phase 10 in college because a boy I dated loved to play it with his family. My sister and I loved to play it and skip my mom haha Have fun with your euchre tournament next weekend! I grew up playing heated games of Uno with my mom’s side of the family haha good times!
That’s fun you play online and at school! I can’t remember if I know how to play Spades or Skip-Bo…I’ll have to look them up.
I didn’t know Crazy Eights was Uno before there was Uno. My kids and I play Crazy Eights on our phones sometimes and it’s fun. I’ll have to look up Kings in the Corner too.
Yep, we play a lot of card games! I have to laugh at some of the 'commercial' card games that are just specialized versions of the ones we played with a regular deck of cards. Skip-bo, Dutch Blitz, Phase 10, Scum are all games we used to play with regular decks of cards. My grandma taught us "Mexican Poker" which is basically Phase 10 when we were kids. She also taught me how to play hearts and spades. Lately, we've played some games with cards (venn diagram, what do you meme?, etc) but I don't really count those as card games. So, I guess probably uno. Not my favorite, but I'm learning what the 5 year old can play.
Thought of another game I played growing up... Spoons! It was something we always did at family gatherings and we used real spoons! When we played "31" we played for money... pennies! Each person got 3 pennies to start. If you lost, you put a penny in the pot. When you lost all 3, you got to play "on grace" until the next time you lost. Then you were out. Last person with a penny won the pot. This was a game played by all the retirees in the trailer park Grandpa lived in when he was in Florida.
I play a lot of solitaire games (Klondike, spider, freecell etc) and for New Years we get with our neighbors and play Cards Against Humanity... we have done this for several years now. Answers seem to get more humorous as the evening progresses!
